Aikido Takemusu Geelong - Kids Classes

Aikido Takemusu Geelong - Kids Classes Kids Aikido classes are run by Katrina Palmer for ages 5 to 15 within the Taku Ma Dojo in Breakwater

It's always difficult as a parent when your child comes into contact with conflict; Whether it's social or physical. You don't want them to be pushed around but also don't want to pass on the message that hitting or retaliating is okay either. Aikido is a highly rewarding Japanese martial art known as “the art of peace”. It is a way of blending with, dissipating and transcending conflict in order

to defend yourself and protect the attacker while using no strength. Currently a student of Sensei Simon Rees at the Aikido Takemusu Dojo in Breakwater, Katrina hopes to share insights with children ages 5 up to 15 where they can then transfer seamlessly into adult classes. Classes are designed to follow the school term on;
Saturday 5-7 years: 9:30am- 10:15am
8-15 years: 10:30am- 11:15am

Organise a free trial lesson for your child and they can;
- Develop conflict resolution skills
- Train to quiet their mind and relax under pressure
- Learn that it is a choice to engage or not engage to an “attack”
- Learn to fall and roll safely
- Train to prevent an attack before it even occurs
- Learn a wide range of techniques to peacefully resolve an “attack” situation
- Develop friendships
- Play games that mirror Aikido movements in a safe, nurturing and fun environment!

Hi all,
As I announced this morning, the kids Aikido classes will be split into 2 smaller groups.
5-7 year olds will remain at 9:30-10:15am.
8 years + is 10:30-11:15am
Change is being made due to the number of students attending and aims to: 1. Reduce crowding/allow more space to train safely
2. Improve supervision and amount of closer instruction received by students.
It is in the students best interest.

The next class will be Saturday 20th Feb.
If there are any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me.
Thanks,
Katrina

As some of you are aware I've recently had twin babies, and so am not personally taking Kids Aikido classes.
I had organised things so that classes could continue in my absence, however COVID19 has disrupted this.
Regrettably this means we won't be holding Kids Aikido classes for the foreseeable future.
I'm very sorry for anyone that has been eagerly awaiting for classes to go back to normal.
Please stay safe and look after each other.
Kathryn xx

Parents,
Katrina held the last classes for Term 1 last weekend. Classes for Term 2 were due to resume on Saturday the 18th of April after the school holidays. However with the developing COVID 19 situation I have regrettably decided that for the health and safety of all students, families, instructors, and the larger community that classes will not return at the dojo at this time.

We will therefore look to resuming classes for Term 3 on Saturday the 18th of July 2020. This of course will be all depending on how the COVID 19 situation is progressing and whether or not this is in the best interests for everyone.

I know that the coming months will be a tough time, however it is also an opportunity to take stock of what is important to us and look after one another. As O’Sensei said “Do not look upon this world with fear and loathing. Bravely face whatever the gods offer.”
This situation won't last forever and training will recommence soon enough at the dojo.

Kathryn.

“Failure is the key to success; each mistake teaches us something.”
- O Sensei.

Aikido is known as the Art of Peace. We must allow ourselves to find peace and acceptance of our mistakes, as they are an essential part of our personal growth and cannot be ignored.

Revel in your mistakes… Though they can really hurt...

INTRODUCING SENSEI KATRINA!

Katrina started Aikido in Oct 2016 and finds that there is an excellent balance of mind, body and spirit to the art.

Training in Karate as a child, Katrina knew she wanted to return to a martial art as an adult.
When talking with our Master Sensei Simon, she found what he described to her about Aikido interesting and exactly what she wanted to achieve though training; being constantly challenged by learning the most efficient way to execute techniques. She was also fascinated by weapons techniques finding out later that our weapons directly relate to empty handed techniques.

Training your brain to react a certain way under pressure highlights the zen mindset of our training. One aspect that shows this that she found interesting was training with multiple attackers, a very easy situation to feel under pressure!

Katrina would like to pass on what she has been learning in adult classes and would like children to enjoy experimenting to find the easiest/most efficient path. "I love finding when a technique is so much easier if you change one small thing and you can immediately feel the difference in technique through partner practice."

Kids will enjoy learning Aikido from Katrina and will have fun in a safe environment.
