Personally, I hate the trend of sharing clips of men struggling in Pilates classes for laughs.
Because yes — a guy who is strong in the gym might shake on a reformer. That’s kind of the point — it’s asking your body to work *differently*.
And when the joke is always "look at the man trying Pilates ha-ha", I think we’re doing men a bit of a disservice. Because Pilates is actually a spectacular complement to the training a lot of men are already doing.
You lift weights?
Great. Reformer gives you another way to work on control, mobility, stability, balance and core strength.
You run or play sport?
There’s plenty of single-leg work, coordination, hip stability and control in there too.
Sit at a desk all day and feel like you've got the flexibility of a cricket bat?
Also totally relevant.
And if you haven’t trained for a while and the idea of walking straight back into a gym feels a bit daunting, reformer can also be a really good place to start.
It’s controlled, it’s low impact, and it's adjustable so it can meet you where you are on any particular day.
You don’t have to be flexible.
You don’t have to give up your weights and become a Pilates guy.
Just come and do a class.
Mobility? Hot.
Control? Hot.
Balance and stability? Hot.
Being willing to do something you’re not immediately brilliant at? Also hot.
Nothing to make fun of here.
Pilates isn’t just for girls.
Ladies, bring your husband.
Gym bros, you’re invited too. 👀
