BTFC is deeply saddened by the passing of Sean Irons.

Sean was a valued part of our football community, playing for BITS in the 1980s before going on to coach and contribute to the game for many years.

We join with Clinton Football CLUB in extending our heartfelt condolences to Sean’s family, friends, former teammates, players and everyone within the football community who had the privilege of knowing him.

Sean’s contribution to football over the years will be remembered, and our thoughts are with all those mourning his loss.

At the request of Sean’s family, those attending his funeral are invited to wear their club colours as a sign of respect and recognition of the important part football played in Sean’s life.

A fitting tribute to a man who gave so much of his time to the game we all love.

Rest in peace, Sean. ⚽💚💛

We asked Coach Tony to reflect on the Bluefires’ season:

🔥 The Bluefires’ Season to Remember 🔥

“From the first whistle of the season, the Bluefires played with something special. It was not just the way they passed the ball or chased down every loose touch; it was the way they looked out for each other, encouraged one another, and kept believing right until the final whistle.

Week after week, they showed what true teamwork looks like. When one player pushed forward, another was there in support. When the defence was under pressure, the whole team stood strong together. Their skill grew with every match, and so did their confidence. Whether they won, drew, or faced a tough result, the Bluefires kept turning up with the same determination and spirit.

By the end of the season, it was clear their greatest achievement was not only found on the scoreboard. It was in their consistency, their courage, and the respect they showed for the game and for each other. Watching their journey filled me with pride, because the Bluefires proved that success is built together.

I am incredibly proud of the Bluefires and everything they achieved this season. Their effort, teamwork, skill, and heart made it a season to remember.

Now, as they prepare to contest the Grand Final this week, I wish the Bluefires the very best of luck and hope they take the field knowing how proud we all are of them.”

We asked Coach Brendan to reflect on the season and tell us what he’s most proud of:

💬 “This wonderful group of young women have known each other and played in teams together in some form for many years, and that friendship is the key to our success.

Teamwork, friendship and resilience. Working FOR each other, not just WITH each other.

They lift each other up in the hard times and settle each other with compassion and kindness in troubling times.

This season has been extraordinary, to say the least. Their continued improvement shows just how instrumental and incredibly powerful passing, positioning and teamwork have been to their success this year.

With these young women coming through, along with some of our older girls, I’m sure BITS is in a great position for women’s football in Gladstone for many years to come.

We are Grand Final bound, and even though we are a bit nervous, I know these girls will be kind, compassionate and, most of all, their friendships will shine on the field.

BlueJays, congratulations on a fantastic season. One more to go!” 🩵
