ππ€GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCKπ€π
Today, after almost 4 years, CR SWIM will teach its last learn to swim lesson. At 5:30pm the doors will close one last time on what has been the most amazing and crazy ride I could ever have imagined.
Back in the late stages of 2020 as COVID was clearing I started a little side gig that I called CR SWIM, with the aim at having a little squad of swimmers in the Southern Highlands. What bloomed in the next 4 years was completely magical. My side gig took off and I was able to leave my professional career as a teacher to become a full time business owner and swimming coach.
Early on we were left looking for a pool and we were lucky enough to secure Tudor House Pool which, despite the adverse weather at times, we called home for the next 2.5 years. It was there that CR SWIMβs 1:1 learn to swim were born. From there on in, my awesome staff and I have taught thousands of swimming lessons to kids as young as 18months all the way through to adults at the age of 78.
In 2023 we were left yet again looking for a pool. And due to pure luck/ the constant persistence of Mark Dowling, we were lucky enough to secure another 12 months at Victoria St. Vic street brought a few challenges with only being 20m long and 76cm deep at one end, but it did provide something Tudor House could not⦠4 WALLS and WARMTH!!
As much as I love teaching my kiddies to swim, itβs no secret that my passion has always been with my squad programs, with numerous trips around the state, Australia and the World following my athletes as they performed.
We built a formidable junior squad program that boasted 100+ junior kids and an elite squad that produced multiple state and country champions/medalists and finalists as well as 2 National Age Finalists. We also managed to get 2 National opens qualifiers and an Olympic Trials qualifier.
All of this out of a tiny hole in the ground in the freezing Southern Highlands.
Not to forget the original and ever βeliteβ triathlon squad, which lays claim to the very first, client number 1, the OG himself, Glendyn Foley, who swum with us all the way until the end. And, just like his first session, it was finished with a 400m freestyle time trial, where he posted a time of 7:24, a mere 5 minutes quicker than his 12:40 in November 2020!!
Which leads us to my departure. Earlier this term, I was approached and offered a position to coach the National Age Senior Program at Warringah Aquatic Swimming Club. It was one of the toughest decisions of my life, but one that was made with my future hopes and dreams at the forefront. I have had to change my colours from π€π and will now represent the π©·π€ of WASC Piranhas!
I will miss you all so, so much, and I hope to see all of you around on pool deck in years to come
Signing out with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes,
Swim Smart. Swim Fast
