📖 So much valuable information learnt in this training module provided by Parkinson's NSW

As we all know....moving is key. In whatever way you can, keep moving. A great quote I heard recently is "All or Something NOT All or Nothing". Starting small and building those healthy habits can then grow into something more. And your body and brain will be grateful for it.

Find something you enjoy and it will be so much easier to find that motivation 💃🎶

If you think that something for you could be dance...come and join us anytime. We have the most supportive and welcoming groups who genuinely enjoy each other's company and moving to great music 🌻

Whether you are living with Parkinsons or have limited mobility, please get in touch to discuss the best class for you 📞

Shake It Up Australia is pleased to be funding a project at the University of Sydney which is part of an international research program jointly organised by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) and other non-profits. This program will equip researchers to answer a longstanding question: why are sleep disruptions integral to neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s?

We spoke with Professor Sharon Naismith and Associate Professor Elie Matar from the University of Sydney about their research into the connection between sleep and Parkinson’s.

The Australian Parkinson’s Genetics Study, led by QIMR Berghofer, has uncovered substantial differences in how Parkinson’s manifests and progresses across men and women, highlighting the need for more personalised approaches to prevention, diagnosis and care.

The study found:

* Women were more likely to experience falls, reported higher rates of pain, depression and anxiety
* Men were more likely to report memory changes, along with higher rates of cognitive impairment and REM sleep behaviour disorder

Shake It Up CEO Vicki Miller said, "Seeing this study grow to become the largest active Parkinson’s cohort in the world is extraordinary, and it’s a testament to the generosity of the thousands of Australians who gave their time to participate. This is exactly the kind of bold, ambitious research our community needs.”
