Bondi Icecubes

Bondi Icecubes Bondi Icecubes Winter Swimming Club The Bondi Icecubes are the junior swimmers of the world famous Bondi Icebergs Winter Swimming Club.

We swim throughout the entire winter every Sunday morning, down at the Iceberg's pool. Our pool is located at the southern end of one of the greatest beaches in the world;
Bondi Beach - Sydney, Australia. During the winter of 1985 several dedicated members of the Bondi Icebergs started what has now become the largest junior winter swimming club in Australia - Jimmy Gilles, Mal Hynes and Bill Radle

y. It was very appropriate that these junior swimmers became known as the 'Bondi Icecubes'.

2010 was our 25th year of swimming and from our humble beginnings of only a dozen swimmers we now have 150 juniors ranging in age from 5 to 17 years old. Every weekend from the first Sunday in May to the last Sunday in September, these swimmers brave the chilly winter conditions swimming either 50 metre and/or 40 metre races. We supply a fantastic breakfast to each swimmer after their races with cereal, juice and sausage sandwiches. The Bondi Icecubes is not only the largest junior winter swimming club in Australia, it is the 5th largest winter swimming club amongst all of the winter swimming clubs. The Icecubes were originally started to keep young swimmers from the local surf lifesaving clubs at Bondi and Tamarama active during the winter months. Officially establishing this club gave the Icecubes their own identity instead of just being a couple of 'swimming races' after the Bondi Icebergs swam. Always under the guidance of several dedicated members the club's numbers grew to the fantastic size it is today. Originally the Icecubes competed in swimming, ironman events, running and beach football, however today due to our size we concentrate on swimming races. The Bondi Icecubes is a winter swimming club dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle, friendly competition and looking after the environment and community. Thank you to our amazing sponsors for the 2010 winter season. Please make sure you help support our supporters - without great sponsors you can't manage a great club.

BONDI Icebergs Club president David Hall has been remembered as a “loveable larrikin” by family and friends.

A special message from Louise, David's partner, to all the Icecubes. He really loved the club and appreciated all the thoughts and wishes from you over the last few weeks. He will be sadly missed.

To all our Cubies. No swimming for the next few weekends. Watch this space and we'll keep you up to date on pool repair status. Have a great weekend and hope we will all be back in the water soon.

POOL UPDATE: Currently we have no updated time frame on the pool being reopened. The damage is far more extensive than it may appear, and much new equipment needs to be sourced before the pool can be restored to working order. We are working as hard as we can to get it going. During this period the Club, sauna, gym and The Crabbe Hole @ Icebergs are open as normal!

09/06/2016

No swimming this Sunday 12th June due to pool damage from last weekend's huge seas. Watch this space and we'll let you know when we can all get back in the water. Have a great long weekend.
