WARNING - BAITING THREAT

We have been made aware of an incident earlier this week where a member of the public (male/on bike/clearly intoxicated) assaulted park visitors and made a threat to "bait" (aka poison) dogs visiting the Bomo Dog Bowl.

The police were called to the scene and removed the individual. At this stage, there have been no reports of any dogs falling ill due to baiting etc

We ask everyone to be extra vigilant when at the dog park:

1. Don't allow dogs to forage for food inside or outside of fence. Watch them carefully!

2. Beware of and please report anyone acting suspicious, placing food or other items in the park.

We have such a wonderful, growing community at our bomo dog park - Let's continue to keep our doggos and each other safe (and ignore the crazy dog haters!)

Shout out to all our dedicated green thumbs 🌿

As you know, several of the trees planted by Endeavour Energy last year have died. A few of those remaining are not friendly to dogs either (sap and fruit), but sadly, no-one asked before they were planted or we could have told them that.

Anyway...

To make sure it doesn't happen again, were looking to buying some dog-safe, shelter-providing, local species as tube stock (because they're affordable) but need some (voluntary) plant-sitters to love them and toughen them up for the hostel environment they'll be going into.

That could be for several months or even a year!

That will also provide time to negotiate planting location with our Council groundsmen 😊

Species include:
Banksia integrifolia - Coast banksia
Melaleuca linarifolia - Snow-in-summer
Melaleuca thymifolia - Thyme Honey-myrtle
Westringia fruticosa - Coast rosemary
Dichondria repens - Kidney w**d

These have been identified as being low/no toxicity to dogs, able to cope with harsh conditions, endemic to the area, won't escape into the creek, and will provide shelter for users and food for locals (of the feathered variety).

Can you help? Will you help!

Shoalhaven City Council has produce a new campaign to promote responsible dog ownership - Chip Snip Register

Shoalhaven Council has provided tips on keeping dogs healthy and secure as part of a new educational campaign launched Thursday, March 14.

Director of City Development, James Ruprai, said the campaign was developed to support the council's zero-tolerance policy towards anti-social dog behaviour, and help the owners of more than 60,000 dogs in the Shoalhaven.

Ranger services lead Jodie Parnell said the community expected dogs to be on their best behaviour, and emphasised the importance of responsible dog ownership and integrating with the community.

"We all want a positive experience for our dogs, and by being prepared and following our tips, we set dogs up for an enjoyable outing," Ms Parnell said.

The campaign includes five videos that cover key topics essential for current and aspiring dog owners, covering the journey from microchipping to training.

"The videos take a fun and engaging approach to show that responsible dog ownership is easily achievable," Ms Parnell said.

"Catering to your furry friends' basic needs and wants will encourage them to be on their best behaviour.

"This makes their lives better and certainly has positive outcomes for the community," she said.

"If this isn't followed, your dog may try to escape, bark excessively, or act out of character, potentially resulting in an upset neighbour, an injury to your dog or them being involved in a dog attack."

The video series focuses on how to be a good pet owner while at home or out in the community, with short films on:

Our two boys Jimmy and Hank are still looking for their forever families. They are both extremely loveable and willing to bond with someone who will provide them with the personal attention and love they deserve. They both have their special qualities but in the right hands this will only add to the quirks we have come to know and love about their personalities. We love them very much and you may see us try to push these dogs on our social media. Our intention with this is to reach as many people as we can so that they have the best chance at finding a home. We will do anything it takes to find these boys the right fit. Also included is your choice of a one on one training package at no cost or a limited time free daycare pass for 3months 🐾
