Day 2 of the Nowra Croquet Club Singles Championship saw the rain finally drift away, allowing many games to be completed before the finals were held in the afternoon.

More information and results will appear in the next edition of Hoop to Hoop, but after some excellent croquet over the two days, the overall winner emerged as Kevin Wood β€” the 2026 NCC Singles Champion. Congratulations Kevin!

Runner-up Ben was most gracious in defeat, showing wonderful sportsmanship throughout the competition. Well done to all players who took part in another successful championship event.

Despite challenging weather, the spirit and determination of members shone through at the Annual Singles Club Championship held by the Nowra Croquet Club on Thursday and Friday 28–29 May.

With 20 entrants, competitors were divided into four blocks for round robin play, with first and second place getters progressing through to the quarter finals.

Following are photos from Day 1 where, after lunch, the heavens opened and the deluge began. The final round of play was postponed until the following day, leaving some members absolutely soaked through by the torrential rain β€” particularly John Orr and Karen James, who wore the deluge better than most!

Today both Div 2 and Div 3 Pennants took to the courts. Div 2 played away and, despite a strong effort, went down to Jamberoo 1 game to 2. Div 3 played at home against the Jamberoo Magpies and also narrowly lost, 1 game to 2.

Players of the match for Nowra were Paul Wormleaton and Arthur Prosser β€” well done to both!

At the Nowra courts, the camaraderie between teams was fantastic, with plenty of good sportsmanship and well-played games throughout. Congratulations to all players, and of course to both Jamberoo teams on their wins.

P.S. The food was fantastic as always, with plenty of gossip and laughter to go around!

Made very welcome on a beautiful Tuesday for a friendly game at Wollongong Croquet Club. Of course we were at the mercy of their knowledge of the greens! All games well contested and in the spirit of the game by all. Ah well….next time! (I thought I played exceptionally well from the sidelines!)
