Don't just drive past the next one you see.

This week another country pub announced that it was shutting its doors until further notice because of financial pressures.😞

Hopefully it's temporary. Hopefully they find a way to get the doors back open.

But it got me thinking about how many country pubs we've lost over the years, and how many more we're going to lose if things don't change.

Everyone loves a country pub. They love the idea of them anyway. Then one shuts and everyone says how sad it is.

The thing is, by then it's too fu**in late.

Country pubs aren't just somewhere to have a beer. They're where footy clubs celebrate, where fundraisers happen, where travellers stop, where locals catch up and where communities come together.

Once they're gone, they're bloody hard to get back.

These days everyone's chasing the big shiny venues with the fancy renovations and massive pokie rooms. That's fine, but most of those places will still be there tomorrow. A lot of them are owned by the same investors anyway.

The little independent pubs are different. They've got character. They've got stories. They've got people behind them who live in the community and genuinely care about the place.

I know times are tough. I know fuel's expensive and money doesn't go as far as it used to.

I'm not having a crack at anyone.

I'm just asking people to think about where they spend their money.

Maybe instead of heading back to the same investor-owned pub you always go to, jump in the car and visit a little country pub. Have a meal. Have a beer. Buy a raffle ticket. Have a yarn with the publican.

The big pub probably won't notice if you don't walk through the door this weekend.

Small buisnesses will.

And if the it does reopen, get out there and support it.

Because the truth is, if we don't support these places while they're open, we'll keep seeing more of them close.

And every time one closes, a town loses a little bit of what makes it special.

Everyone says they love a country pub. The question is, do we love them enough to support them before they're gone?

🔥 A PRIZE MONEY CAN’T BUY! 🔥

We’re incredibly excited to announce that the winner/s of this year’s Jeremy Hodges Memorial Cup will receive a fully supported TA2 / Trans Am test day at Queensland Raceway thanks to the incredible generosity of Graham Cheney and the team behind the TA2 Muscle Car Series and Trans Am Cup Series.

The enduro winners will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of one of Australia’s most exciting and fastest-growing racing categories, with guidance from either two-time Trans Am Cup Champion and Bathurst 1000 winner Todd Hazelwood or reigning TA2 Muscle Car Series Champion and Erebus Supercars co-driver Jarrod Hughes. 🏆🏁

The TA2 Muscle Car Series and Trans Am Cup Series are considered to be genuine stepping stones on the pathway to a motorsport career and Cheney said it was the perfect
opportunity to help the next generation of drivers and to support a great initiative.

“Jeremy was a great young driver and a ripper bloke, so it’s our pleasure to support the race by giving the winner a test”

“My son raced in Hyundai’s so I know what it takes to win in that class and I think whoever gets the win will be a deserving winner and will be blown away by the power of a TA2/Trans Am car.”

“I’ll be tuned in to Blendline TV next weekend and look forward to seeing the winner on track at QR in the coming months.

For many grassroots racers, opportunities like this simply don’t come along. It’s a genuine chance to experience the next step in Australian motorsport and see what these incredible V8-powered machines are all about.

A huge thank you to Graham Cheney and the entire TA2 Muscle Car Series and Trans Am Cup Series team for supporting the Jeremy Hodges Memorial Cup and helping create an unforgettable opportunity for one deserving winner.

🏁 $1,000 UP FOR GRABS THANKS TO MD STEEL 🏁

As we prepare for the Jeremy Hodges Memorial Cup, we’d like to acknowledge a business that played a significant role in Jeremy’s life both on and off the racetrack.

Matt Drane from MD Steel was Jeremy’s first employer, mentor, supporter and sponsor. Many of you will remember Jeremy’s Excel carrying the iconic MD Steel livery throughout his racing career — a reflection of the friendship and support Matt provided from the very beginning.

In an incredibly generous gesture, Matt and the team at MD Steel have donated $1,000 in prize money for the event.

Jeremy’s love for motorsport was made possible by the people who believed in him, encouraged him, and helped him chase his dreams. Matt was one of those people.

The Jeremy Hodges Memorial Cup is about more than racing. It’s about remembering a young man who made a lasting impact on our club and celebrating the community that stood beside him.

Thank you Matt and the entire MD Steel team for your generosity and for helping us honour Jeremy’s memory in such a meaningful way.
