The climb from the Grose River towards Lockley’s Pylon offers insane views of the stunning Grose Valley ❤️ but it sure will make you earn them, with over 620m climbing in 2.5km, a feature of the marathon course. Who’s up for one of Australia’s most brutal and spectacular SkyRuns?

Cruising through a quiet early morning Grand Canyon loop with Ben Lavery and the The Goat Farm // Trail Running, Coaching , Testing crew exploring the Hounslow 17km course 🙌 there’s nothing like descending into the Grandy, it’s another world down there!

Somehow, it’s just over 3 months to go now 👀 we’re entering that time period where hikers on Perry’s Lookdown are confused as to why there’s 20 overly-enthusiastic runners going up and down the brutal climb and descent. “Are you okay?”, “is that actually fun? Is that even a sport?”, “again, really!? Who hurt you!?”. Most runners will reply “it’s definitely easier than lugging that 20kg overnight pack up there, we can’t complain! All the best, have a great day!”.

It’s also the time of year when we can unapologetically clock up Grand Canyon loop reps and call it training. But really, it’s just an amazing place to be in. I mean who’s running up those stairs up to Neates Glen anyways? Was that a challenge? Maybe… and do I need a shower after training if I ran through a waterfall? That one is personal preference, up to you.

Moral of the story, the fun times are right around the corner. The Grose Valley is awaiting, ready to leave you in awe, and definitely make your quads stupidly sore. This is going to be all time.

Making the most of the magical Pinnacles / Lockley’s Pylon trails before the Mt Hay Rd closure comes into effect on Tuesday June 9th ⛰️

Between now and then is an awesome time to check out / recce that part of the Hounslow marathon course. Once the road closure is in place, you will have to access it from either Perry’s Lookdown (solid adventure) or another access of the Grose Valley (even longer adventures). The trail will still be open, and will no doubt be extra peaceful. Get out there ❤️

It’s just a marathon*

*= with 2500m elevation gain and descent, over the most spectacular, brutal terrain in Australia exploring the Grand Canyon and Grose Valley of the Blue Mountains National Park. May/definitely does involve scrambling, and likely heart rates of 165bpm plus while hiking up the Perry’s Lookdown climb to finish. May simultaneously be one of the most challenging and memorable days of your year.

Are you up for it? 🔥

When to hike, when to run? A question the challenging Hounslow Classic course asks of you a lot ⛰️

The feeling of getting the balance right and finding flow however, is oh so rewarding 🔥 if you live close by, the best way to find out what suits your strengths is get out on this amazing course and see how it feels for you personally! And make sure to take a look around at some of the stunning scenery of the Grose Valley, a truly special experience.

For those who live further away, find your meanest stair rep and befriend it 😈

The Blue Gum Forest of the Grose Valley 🌳 an enchanting, towering closed forest of Eucalyptus Deanei at the bottom of the valley, only accessible by foot. The feeling of this place leaves you in pure awe, with Blue Gums reaching up to 65m in height, with trunk circumferences of up to 6m 🥹

It feels as though you’ve stepped back in time, perhaps it’s the stillness, perhaps it’s because you are in the presence of a forest that is over 600 years old.

We are grateful this place was saved by Bushwalkers in the 1930’s when it was threatened to be cut down. This place and its wildlife is invaluable.

The Hounslow Marathon is lucky enough to cross through the forest at the bottom of the Grose Valley twice. Make sure to take a moment to look up and appreciate the sheer beauty of the place you are in, leaving no trace or leaving it even better than when you arrived ❤️

Some days are other-worldly up here ☁️ here’s a few moments from an incredible twilight run to Lockley’s Pylon recently. The kind of day where it’s hard to leave the house, but when you do, you’re incredibly grateful. Quiet moments in the mountains, where places you’ve seen before look so unfamiliar, a whole different captivating mood and energy. No two days the same, the beauty of the mountains ❤️ get out there!
