📣 SAMI & CLAUDIA LOCKED IN FOR 2027 🖤❤️

We’re delighted to have Samantha Scheffer and Claudia McGee recommitted for season 2027!

The pair are currently tied for third in our Best & Fairest count with a few rounds still to be counted following excellent 2026 seasons.

Sami’s outstanding year was recognised with selection in the SFNL Division 1 Team of the Year. Her ability to make an impact anywhere on the field was on full display, producing numerous best-on-ground performances throughout the season. A foundation player of our women’s program, we’re excited to see Sami head into her sixth season!

Claudia played 10 games in her first season at the club, with her year unfortunately interrupted by a broken nose. In a season where our defenders were regularly under pressure, she was outstanding, taking on some of the competition’s best forwards and consistently standing tall.

Two important recommitments as our women’s program continues building towards 2027! ✈️

Following a season in which all three men’s teams played finals, Black Rock is inviting expressions of interest from experienced players ready to be part of our next chapter.

📣 2027 RECOMMITMENTS BEGIN – MEN’S FOOTY 🖤❤️

We’re kicking off our men’s football recommitments with three important members of our leadership group locked in for 2027!

Ned returns after an outstanding season as skipper, kicking 28 goals from 20 games. After an interrupted 2025, he got his body right and thrived as part of a dynamic forward line that produced some big scores throughout the year.

Ricky played all 21 games and currently sits second in our Best & Fairest count with only a few rounds remaining. His versatility allows him to make an impact through the midfield, as a backup ruckman or up forward. Following a particularly strong finish to the season, we can’t wait to see what he produces in 2027.

Jayden featured 19 times in 2026, including some strong finals performances where his experience and class shone through. He brings plenty of energy, is a fantastic influence on our younger players coming through and continues to be a valuable contributor off the field.

Three terrific leaders and club people, we’re delighted to have them recommitted for 2027! ✈️

📣 2027 RECOMMITMENTS BEGIN - WOMEN’S FOOTY 🖤❤️

We’re thrilled to announce Chelsey and Bree as our first two recommitments for season 2027!

Both enjoyed outstanding and incredibly consistent seasons in 2026 and currently occupy the top two positions in our Best & Fairest count with a few rounds left to count at Presentation Night.

Chilly was once again a general down back in 2026, combining her composure, toughness and leadership as co-captain. Her brilliant season was recognised with selection in the backline of the SFNL Team of the Year.

Bree produced a fantastic 2026 season through the midfield, continually putting her body on the line and leading the way with her tackling and pressure. Tough, relentless and brilliant at winning clearances, she delivered for the team week after week.

📣 OUR FIRST TWO NETBALL RECOMMITMENTS 🖤❤️

We’re thrilled to announce that Tailah Micallef and Brooke Honan have recommitted to the Jets for season 2027!

Tailah captained Team Black in A3 this season and has been a tremendous asset since joining the club. A ripping leader, teammate and club person, she brings enormous value both on and off the court.

Brooke returns after another outstanding season, finishing as the 2026 SFNL A3 Leading Goal Shooter with an incredible 437 goals!

After stepping up into A Grade this year, Brooke continued her remarkable run, making it FOUR consecutive seasons in which she has won her competition’s Leading Goal Shooter award. 🔥

Two quality players and even better people and we’re rapt to have them back for 2027!

📣 JASON BAKER RECOMMITS FOR 2027 🖤❤️

The good news keeps on rolling, with Jason Baker recommitting as a netball coach for the 2027 season.

JB made a massive impact in his first year at the club, bringing plenty of passion, positivity, energy and genuine coaching quality to our netball program.

He oversaw both our A3 and B3 Jetball sides. In our first season ever fielding an A Grade team, Team Black fought back from an 0–5 start to make finals, while Team Red went all the way through to a Grand Final.

Beyond the results, JB has been a fantastic club person from day one. He has embraced the One Club mentality, made a real effort to get to know people across all areas of the club, and consistently supported the wider club wherever he could.

A special shoutout to Shaz as well, who provides plenty of support to JB and our players and has quickly become a valued part of the club community.

We’re rapt to have JB back and can’t wait to see the impact his coaching can have in 2027.

📣 MATT HUBER RECOMMITS FOR 2027 🖤❤️

We’re delighted to announce that Matt Huber will continue as our Senior Men’s Coach for the 2027 season, entering his third year at the helm.

Over the past two seasons, Matt has played a major role in driving the direction of our Men’s program and building belief within the playing group. His leadership and commitment have helped create real momentum across all three teams.

While 2026 didn’t finish the way we had hoped, it was still a season of significant progress under Matt’s guidance. Both our Seniors and Reserves reached Preliminary Finals, while our Open Grade returned to finals football for the first time in 11 years.

Matt has also helped create an environment where our younger players are developing, players are driven to improve, and Black Rock is becoming an increasingly attractive place to play footy.

There is still plenty of growth ahead, which makes the opportunity to continue building with Matt an exciting one. We’re looking forward to seeing where year three under his leadership can take us.

The next chapter starts now, with plenty more exciting announcements to come. 🖤❤️

📣 WOMEN’S FOOTBALL SENIOR COACH ANNOUNCEMENT 🏉

We are excited to announce the appointment of Brent Ward as our Senior Women’s Coach for the 2027 season. 🖤❤️

Wardy is no stranger to Black Rock. A Life Member, former Club Captain, Premiership player and Senior Best & Fairest winner, he played over 280 games for the Rockers and has a long and proud history in the red and black.

In recent years, Wardy has built an impressive coaching résumé, having spent the past five seasons as Senior Coach of the Hampton Rovers Women’s side, following three years as Beaumaris Senior Women’s Coach, along with plenty of junior football coaching experience.

His time at Hampton Rovers included an undefeated Division 2 Premiership in his first season in 2022, as well as another Grand Final appearance in 2024.

Wardy now returns to Black Rock with a wealth of women’s football coaching experience and a strong connection to our club as we look to take the next step with our Senior Women’s program.

We extend a warm welcome back to wife Lisa and the kids, and look forward to having the whole family around the club in 2027.

With pre-season set to begin in November, stay tuned for details of an upcoming Meet the Coach evening, open to all returning players as well as anyone interested in joining the Jets for season 2027. 🏉
