GF Merlin was passively trapped in the Guy Fawkes River National Park around 20 years ago. Hes had a long career as a stud and came to us semi-retired with limited handling in 2020. He now has just one wife who he genuinely adores.
For us, Merlin has been a wonderful introduction to owning a stallion. Hes been a delight to have around, respectful of fences, neighbouring horses and being rotated between pastures. He just says an enthusiastic hey to his girls across the fence everytime he comes up for breakfast and dinner.
We can bring mares through his paddock and house him with youngstock and geldings with no trouble. Hes the perfect gentleman to handle with excellent ground manners under halter and his behaviour doesnt change during breeding season at all.
Hes totally safe to paddock with broodmares and is the absolute best baby sitter, so patient and kind with his offspring, which is why he usually gets weaning duties. I think he takes this protective role (and nap time) very seriously.
We love his spunky, playful personality and hope he still has a few more years with us. Hes a very precious member of our herd here at Kingsgate Heritage Horses.
