The next shortage might not be buyers. It might be good horses. 👀

With German warmblood foal numbers reportedly down 18% in just two years, this is a fascinating discussion about where sport horse breeding is heading.

What does the performance horse market look like in 2030 if this trend continues? Personally I think horses are going to be a lot more expensive as breeders and trainers seek not just to recoup the cost but (heaven forbid) actually make a profit.

QLD MARE PERFORMANCE TEST 🌟
Today the HHSA had the pleasure of hosting a mare classification & performance test at the stunning venue of Hazel Park, Tamborine. Two lovely thoroughbred mares were classified into the main studbook; Mazarine owned by Katrina Christensen & Wine Society owned by Carla Stanford.
Then two quality Hanoverian mares did outstanding performance tests & were awarded Premium Mare Candidates. These two mares scored well in their classification, for their paces & from the test rider today 👏🏻

We are incredibly proud to have been part of every step of this horse’s journey from selecting the mare, starting her under saddle, breeding this guy, and producing him to this level supported by exceptional professionals who have helped shape the horse we see today 💕👏

🍂 The Season Ahead - Where Decisions Meet Reality 🍂

This is the time of year breeders quietly reflect
on the breeding decisions made, the risks taken and the pairings chosen months (sometimes years) ago.

And soon… we see the result 🥂

For Rosetta, this season marks a shift in increased number. Four foals due 😅 Each one the product of deliberate, considered breeding decisions, and a continued investment in carefully selected mares to shape a program built on modern type, soundness, genetic diversity, and above all rideable, sane athletes.

We’ve had a number of enquiries already, and despite the narrative of a “difficult market”… I’m not convinced.

What we’re seeing instead is a more informed buyer.
More selective. More discerning.

Clients who want to understand why a cross was made- the thinking behind it, the pedigree, the biomechanics, the long-term prospects and that’s exactly the standard we breed to 📚

Because not all breeding programs are equal - at Rosetta, mares are selected on type, conformation, pedigree, and durability.

📣 I will say it again; our mares are x-rayed before ever entering the program 📣

Because you’re not just buying a foal - you’re investing in a future athlete.
