The Berwick City Cougars Baseball Club would like to congratulate our second newest Life Member- Shaun Surtees.

Since joining the Berwick City Cougars as a T-Ball player in 1997, Shaun has dedicated nearly 30 years of outstanding service to the club as a player, coach, mentor and leader. Progressing through every level of the program, Shaun combined his love of the game with a passion for developing others, beginning his coaching journey as a teenager before going on to coach junior and senior teams, including leading the Division 2 Reserves to a premiership. His commitment, leadership and ability to build strong club culture saw him serve as Division 1 Club Coach from 2019–2023, where he continued to drive standards and player development across the senior program. Beyond the field, Shaun has been a dedicated club person, committee member and role model who has helped shape the culture and spirit of the Cougars for generations of players and families.

The Berwick City Cougars would like to congratulate one of our newest life members- Dan Betreen.

From joining the Cougars as a seven-year-old T-Ball player in 1996 to becoming one of the most respected development coaches in Victorian baseball, Daniel Betreen’s impact on the Berwick Baseball Club has been extraordinary. Over nearly 30 years, Dan has coached every junior age group, mentored countless players on and off the field, led premiership-winning teams, guided the club to its historic promotion to Division 1, and earned recognition as Baseball Victoria Coach of the Year. Beyond the Cougars, his contributions have extended to state, national and professional baseball through roles with the Victorian Under 16 team, Melbourne Aces Academy and as a scout for the Oakland Athletics. Despite these achievements, Dan has always remained deeply connected to the Cougars, helping shape the culture, standards and community spirit that define the club today. His dedication, leadership and lifelong commitment make him a truly deserving recipient of this recognition.

Thank you Dan and the Betreen family for all that you are and all that you do for our club.

This award recognises a club member who contributes both on and off the field, often without recognition. Named after life member Paul Quinn, the recipient embodies dedication, teamwork, and selfless service to the club. Clayton is a truly deserving winner for his outstanding work as Junior Convenor, his committee contributions, and his unwavering team-first attitude across our senior men’s program. 👏

💙 Club Person of the Year – Paul Quinn
Awarded to the volunteer whose dedication leaves a lasting impact on the club. It’s hard to imagine the Cougars without Paul’s tireless efforts. From President and Treasurer to scorer, canteen helper, stockist, groundskeeper, team manager, and countless other unofficial roles — Paul does it all. Amazingly, this is the first time he has received this award, despite his incredible contribution over many years. Thank you, Paul, for everything you do for our club. 🙌

Congratulations again to all winners and thank you to every player, coach, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who made the 2025/26 season one to remember. Bring on next season! 🐾⚾💙

Whilst many were tucking into hot cross buns and Easter eggs on Sunday, our very own Logan Ashby was down in Geelong, competing in the Baseball Victoria Futures Plus Tournament.
Logan has worked incredibly hard to be recognised and selected for this high‑performance pathway, designed to help emerging players further develop their skills. He represented the East team, joining talented athletes from across Victoria.
From Game 1 the team clicked, built momentum, and went undefeated, ultimately taking out the Gold Medal Game.
Logan had an absolute blast and made a strong contribution — including 3 innings pitched in Game 2, giving up just 1 earned run.
A huge congratulations, Logan. Your dedication, growth, and passion for the game continue to shine. The Cougars community is proud of you! BEASTS FROM THE EAST!
