Scoring Cards Correctly
The Committee want to remind people to score the cards correctly so if they need to be checked for any reason after the game, they know who has marked each card.

When scoring the card for your partner, also record your score on the same card and place your name on the card in the lower left box. There should be two scores on each card, and two names, then calculated at the end and the score written clearly. The cards should still be submitted after you have entered the scores on the computer.
If you are not sure, ask someone to show you.

It may be the Summer Cup, but that fresh southerly breeze today sent some looking for an extra layer as temperatures dropped during the round.

Terry Stevenson (pictured) had his second best round ever, shooting 84 scratch off his 17 handicap to win the day with 40 stableford points and pip Bill Quin by one point with 39, on a countback from Geoff Murphy, also with 39.
Consistency off the tee was Terry’s key weapon, plus holing a few nice puts to help the score. Starting on the back nine, he had 21 points with three 3 pointers and came home steady with 19 points including one three pointer.

Bill Quin had a mixed bag in his 39 points for runner up, starting on the tenth and having 24 points including a wipe, five 3 pointers and a very rare 5 pointer birdie three on the 16th. His back nine only produced 15 points, but still a great round Bill.

In A Grade, Mick Thoms had 39 points including a birdie 4 on the 13th hole, and six 3 pointers overall.
In B Grade, Terry Stevenson was top with 40 points and in C Grade, Bill Quinn with 39.

Josh Crawford shoots his best round ever.

Josh Crawford has fired the best round of his life, shooting a one over par 72 to win Sunday’s event with 42 stableford points from his six handicap.
Starting from the tenth tee, Crawford said he was playing great golf and finished his first nine in one under par after a birdie four on the thirteenth hole.
After the turn he parred the first and second and then birdied the par three third hole setting up his round nicely and now sitting at two under par.
On the sixth hole, the long par five across water Crawford said he hit his three wood second shot and it just went out of bounds, then hit one in the water racking up a disastrous nine on the hole.
Not deterred, he fired back immediately with a birdie three on the seventh hole and parred home to shoot one over par with a quadruple bogey included on the card.
After the round he said he hardly missed a green, hitting 16 in regulation.
“I can’t recall missing a put under ten feet today, only hit one bad drive on the first, putted well and chipped well. Just solid consistent boring golf,” was how Crawford described the round.

Playing in the same group, Damien Archer had a highlight eagle on the thirteenth hole, putting in from just off the green for a three on the par five.

Runner up on the day was Michelle White with a splendid 40 points, including a four pointer birdie four on the first hole, a par five for women.
Third place on the day went to Brad Jasper with 38 points on a countback from several other golfers.

In A grade, Josh Crawford had 42 points and Steve Dunn 38.
In B grade, Michelle White had 40 points and Cody Dixon 38 points.
In C grade, Brad Jesper had 38 points and Janece Peters 38 points.

The Sunday ball comp ran down to 36 points, including Steve Dunn 38, Cody Dixon 38, Janece Peters 38, Stephen Jermyn 37, Kim Weston 37, Jesse Nelson 37, Elise Cave 37, Ben Hearn 37, Donna Tuckwell 37 and Andy Bicanic 36.
The men’s near pins were Ewan Murdoch on 3, Cody Dixon on 8 and Benje Munce on 15.
The ladies near pins were Janece Peters on 8 and 17.

Perfect weather for golf with cooler temperatures to start the day and no wind, yet the best score of the day was only 38 points, a reduction in the hot scores of recent competitions.

Glen Staker (pictured) led the way with 38 points, runner up was Steve Young with 37 on a countback from Chris Brown in third place and also on a countback.
Two steady nines of 19 points including six 3 pointers overall helped Staker on the day as he returned to the winner’s circle for the first time in a while.

In A grade, Chris Brown had 37 points, Nigel Bolton 36, Andrew Haigh 35 and Owain Jones 34.
In B grade, Glen Staker had 38 points, Steve Young 37, Ross Thompson 37 and broke his age (again), Rainer Beisnner 35 and Ron Duncan 35.
In C grade, Roy Gabriele continues his form with 36 points, Ben Hearn had 35 points, Richard Hendriks 35, Scott Baker 34 and Kevin Cramer 33 points.

The men’s near pins were Steve Jermyn on the 3rd, Chris Brown won the $150 Eagles Nest on the 15th hitting a shot to about 2 feet and making birdie, and Owain Jones snagged the 17th hole.

The ladies near pins were Carolyn Major on the 8th and Kylie Woodcock on the 17th.

New Ball Comp Criteria
The golf committee held a quick meeting this afternoon and there will be changes to the ball comp and who wins a ball on the day for the minor placings.
In the past, the ball comp was allocated to each of the three grades depending on how many players were in each grade. This often resulted in a player winning a ball with a less score compared to players in other grades.
Going forward from now, the ball comp will be scored overall, meaning after the main prizes are allocated, the ball comp will run down the next best scores depending on how many balls will be allocated for that day. It won’t be judged per grade.
The committee thinks this will be fair to everyone.

Summer Cup Update
The Summer Cup runs for 8 rounds, with the best 4 scores to count.
After three rounds, Roy Gabriele is on 109, Owain Jones 108 and Stephen Young on 107. Early days yet, but some of the field have some catch up work to do. Sink those puts.

Eclectic
If you have played in 2025, can you check your name is appearing on the Eclectic lists of scratch and nett. Last year there was a few issues with some names not appearing. Best to find out now rather than later.
In the men’s nett eclectic Chris Brown is leading with -12, and in the scratch, Nigel Bolton is off to a hot start with -5.

Pin Positions
Thanks to Mick Thoms and Thommo for the new pin positions. Mick was given a crash course in changing the holes by Thommo, and Mick will volunteer his time to rotate the pins if they need doing. (We forgive him this once for the 4th pin position.)
Thanks Mick for your time.

By the way, the greens have been complimented recently by visiting players who have praised them as good as some in the city. Thanks Laurie, great job.

Course Navigation.
If you are driving a cart, can you be mindful to park well away from the greens, and think about your navigation.
Some areas and very trampled due to carts being driven too close to the greens.
With this dry weather, we need to help the course and be careful where we drive, and even pull buggys.
Be aware please.

Todays Golf Report is brought to you by Reece, our sponsor of the 5th hole. Thanks Ben Hearn from Reece.

Golfers endured a hot and blustery Sunday for the second round of January’s Summer Cup, with club president Alan Parsons producing a winning score of 40 stableford points.
In runner up position was Soeron Stoettrup with 38 points, with third place going to Kevin Cramer on 37 points on a countback.

Playing off a 16 handicap, Parsons had 19 points the front nine including two wipes and five three pointers, and a strong back nine of 21 points with a further four more three pointers.

In A grade, Soeren Stoettrup was top with 38 points, Jordan Sell runner up with 36 points and Matt Bell and Nigel Bolton with 35 points.

In B grade, Alan Parsons had 40 points, Stephen Young 37 points on a countback to claim runner up from Mick Bottom and Glen Staker all on 37 points.

In C grade, Kevin Cramer was top with 37 points from former member and now Lakes Entrance resident Gary O’Neill also with 37 points, and Maureen Rupcic and Jan O’Halloran filling the minor places with 33 points each and Richard Hendriks claiming a ball with 32 points.

The men’s near pins went to Jordan Sell on the 3rd hole, Charlie Filtness on the 8th and Nigel Bolton on 15 and 17.

The ladies near pins went to Jan O’Halloran on the 8th and Michelle White on the 17th.

Members are reminded the eclectic has started, so keep playing strong to the end of each round to tick off some best scores for each hole.

There are six more rounds in the Summer Cup, the best score of four rounds from the total of eight to count towards the overall winner.

New member Owain Jones is leading on 74 points after two rounds, but the handicapper did axe him hard after his recent scores.
Roy Gabriele is on 73 and Wayne Tuckwell and Scott Frize on 71.

Happy New Year and may you play better golf this year.

On that note, some players have already started their year with good golf, with relatively new member Owain Jones producing another great score of 43 points to take an early lead in the Summer Cup.

The Summer Cup will run through January with the best 4 of 8 rounds used to determine the winner.

Runner up on the day was Roy Gabriele with 41 points who has continued his good form into the new year.

In A grade, Charlie Filtness won with 36 points on a three-way countback from Laurie Whitehead and Chris Brown. (we hear Laurie missed a tiddler length putt).

In B grade, Carolyn Major shot a fine 40 points to win the grade, with Vero Rupcic runner up on 39 points on a countback from Scott Frize and Robert Haigh.

In C grade, Roy Gabriele had 41 points, Maureen Rupcic 35 points and Jan O’Halloran 34 points.

In the ladies competition, Carolyn Major had 40 points and runner up was Kylie Woodcock with 36.

The electric has also started for 2025, the competition will finish in early December, so get those birdies rolling in on each hole. This year there is a scratch and handicap electic.

The men’s scratch match play from 2024 was finally decided in a cliffhanger, with Soeron Stoettrup taking the title on the 19th hole over Steve Dunn.
Dunn was 1 up playing the 18th but made bogey to Stoettrup’s par. On the 1st hole for the playoff Stoettrup apparently hit it very wide left on the practice range, played a safe recovery back to the fairway and then a great third shot near the pin and sank the putt for par to win.
Pictured is Soeron Stoettrup and Steve Dunn after the match play final.

Note:
The course is very dry as can be expected, which means the grass is struggling enough in the heat. For players with drive carts particularly, can you avoid driving close to the greens, or any thin patches. It's easy to park 10m away and walk to your ball. Players with pull buggys can also be aware of where they walk, just to try and help the course in this dry spell. Thanks.

Note:
The club now also have used balls for sale for social golfers an club members.
Top grade used balls 6 for $20
Social golf balls 7 for $15.
Available from the bar.

Several golfers finished the competition year in style and "no", these are not misprints for the Sunday singles scores.
With the combination of dry fairways and the ball running further, it seems you need to be on your game to get a podium position.

The day’s winner with 48 stableford points was Jacob Ellis with runner up Owain Jones only one shot behind with 47 points.
Playing of a 32 handicap, you could say everything clicked during the round for Ellis, especially the back nine where he had 27 points alone. You would think he will have a revised handicap for next round.
New member Owain Jones chipped in on several occasions during his round, and his 21 handicap may also see a revision. (note golf genius has an error, he does not play of +25.)

In A grade, scores were more respectable with Steve Dunn winning with 38 points on a countback from Ron Wallace. Mick Thoms had 37 despite playing a wrong ball and wiping the 18th, and Chris Brown had 36 points.

In B grade, Steve Young is still in a festive mood after shooting 43 points, usually enough to win the day. Peter Hastings had 40 points, Mick Bottom 39, Gregg Quinn 37 and Clayton Till 36.

In C grade, Jacob Ellis had 48, Owain Jones 47 and youngster Cole Haigh had 46 points. All will have new handicaps next round, (you would think). Clive Bunn had 36 points to claim a ball.

In the ladies, Jan O’Halloran had 39 points and Carolyn Major runner up with 38 points.

With such big singles scores, it was inevitable the 4bbb would be high scoring, and they were.
Cole Haigh and grandfather Bob Haigh had 50 points, with Ewan Murdoch and Jacob Ellis runner up on a countback with 49 points from Owain Jones and Mick Thoms.

Near pins for the men were Kim Weston on 3, Mick Bottom on 8 and Steve Dunn claiming 15 and 17.
The ladies near pins were Jan O’Halloran on 8 and Maureen Rupcic on 17.

Notes:
The club now have 70th anniversary ball repairers for $10 and ball markers for $3. Get in quick to purchase this great club souvenir.

It is advisable to mark your ball with your own identification marks, as today several people hit the wrong ball. Its best to check and not be penalised.

From Wednesday all competitions will now be booked under
2025 bookings in Golf Genius.

Happy golfing in 2025 and enjoy the Summer Cup in January, where the best 4 rounds of the 8 will count toward the prize.

Huge shout out to Laurie Whitehead, the greens are in great condition at present.

Hole In One for Kimbo

Christmas came early in more ways than one for Kim Weston, the neighbouring farmer scoring his first ever hole in one on the third hole. Congratulations Kim, great shot and you will now have your name etched onto the hole in one honour board.

Kim, as expected is over the moon and called his 98 year old mother, June, a golf member herself in earlier days to relay his great news.

In the Sunday competition there were a host of good scores, Jordan Sell firing a great round 41 points and two over par 73 off his 7 handicap, narrowly in front of Gregg Quinn who was runner up with 40 points on a countback.

Jordan Sell birdied the 3rd hole, had consecutive birdies on 12 and 13, plus the 17th to shoot two under the back nine to win the day and be top of A grade. Sell pipped Alan Butterworth in A grade who shot one under par and 40 points, collecting five birdies during his round, with Stephen Jermyn scoring 39 points for third position.

In B grade, Gregg Quinn had 40 points including birdies on the 11th and 15th holes, Kim Weston 39 points, including a 1 on the third hole, Bob Haigh with 37 points and Geoff Murphy 36.

In C grade, Bill Quinn had 38 points including a fine birdie three on the 14th hole and Keven Cramer runner up with 35 points.

The men’s near pins were Kim Weston who aced the third hole and claimed the eagles nest, and the rumour is ‘Kimbo’ may not have shouted a round (to be confirmed). Jordan Sell won the 15th and Alan Butterworth the 17th.

Merry Xmas to all members and visitors who have supported the club this year.

Next competition day is Sunday 29th December.

Note: the 2025 golf program is on the website, and you will now be looking to book tee times under 2025 Bookings for any January competitions.
