Bentley Cricket Club

Bentley Cricket Club The mighty Blues, est. 1953 the oldest original club in the WASTCA.

From small beginnings in 1953, the Bentley Cricket Club has gradually progressed to a large club in recent years. It presently fields 5 senior teams in the West Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association (WASTCA)'s Saturday competition. In 2013 the Bentley Blues celebrated our 60th anniversary, and we did it in style, winning the 1st Grade title for the second time, and the CaptureSport T20 comp

etition. Apart from our 1st Grade successes in 2009, & 2013, we have won 26 other premierships throughout our other grades, the latest two being the 2nd Grade, & One Day Competition, in 2015. The Club trains on Tuesday & Thursday at Wyong Reserve from 5 - 7pm and new members are most welcome.

Young Man makes his top score for the Bentley Cricket Club and shows us all why we still play cricket with help from the Balcatta Cricket Club and their own Legend Boris Krebl.

Balcatta showed wonderful heart in bowling full and supporting Chris during the game thankyou to Balcatta

Chris Cairns made a personal milestone against Balcatta recently scoring his first runs after being at the Club for approaching 28 Years. Chris the son of Club Legends Stephen Cairns and his lovely Wife Helen, has been down at the Mighty Blues since he was born.

Whilst he has been to many games and helped in the field as 12th & 13th Man. This was his first official game, well done Chris a mighty knock with the bat and bowled some handy right armers. Well done to Captain Kirk Spencer on how he managed the “delicate” situation

With Dad Stephen in hospital, we know how proud he would be, and was super grateful on receiving photos and Video from Helen who was at the game. Great Work Mate. To Stephen keep working through the health challeng-es, and the Mighty Blues Family wish you all the best and a return to the Net Captain role soon.

Also, the Club wishes Len Woodley another Life Member who is in hospital and we look forward to seeing Lenny Back soon managing the afternoon Teas at Wyong Reserve. Len like Stephen are massive contributors to the Club in there off Field roles since they stopped playing.

Its because of people like Chris Stephen Helen and Len on why cricket is the people’s game in Australia for all to play young and old both on and off the field.

🚨 Fielding Vote Count 🚨

The end of the year is nigh, which brings us to the annual Fielding Vote Count. This is Bentley Cricket Club's version of The Brownlow Medal, with votes for the best fielder read out for every team, every round, in a 5-4-3-2-1 format. If you get the most votes, then you are the winner!

It also represents the LAST social event EVER in the current Canning Sports Club building. The clubrooms are set to be demolished in early April to make way for an upgraded facility. So the club would like to extend an invitation to past players, life members, and other community members to come and say farewell to the beloved home of the Bentley Blues.

Oh and also, there will be FREE Pizza. Should I have led with that?

Celebrating a champion!

A massive congratulations to club legend Tony Magill, who this weekend notches up 400 games for the Bentley Cricket Club. What a massive achievement this is.

Tony has long been an integral part of the club both on and off the field. He made his debut back in 1988/89, playing in both the first and second side that season. Across the next three decades, Tony has made his mark across all the grades, and with all three cricket disciplines.

With the bat, he has notched up five centuries and 28 half-centuries with the bat, plundering a club record 208 sixes in the process. With the ball, Tony is on the 7fa honour board with a best bowling of 8/35, and has taken 597 wickets overall (4th in club history). He also holds the record for the most run-outs in club history, with 39.5.

Tony is the only player in club history to record the double 5000 runs and 500 wickets. Additionally, he has won the coveted Ralph Dungey Memorial Award a record 4 times. A testament to his cricketing prowess.

Off the field, Tony has served as treasurer for 5 season, plus continues to serve on the committee and most notably as the Bentley Cricket Club statistician.

Thank you for your service Tony and congratulations on your 400 game milestone!
