Medal Ceremony Magic 🥉💛🖤🏑
What a finish! The WA O/55s proudly collected our Bronze Medal after a week of hard-fought, skilful, and spirited hockey at the Hockey Australia Masters Nationals.

But the celebrations didn’t stop there — we were also honoured with the Whistler’s Award for outstanding sportsmanship and behaviour 🏅💫 … proof that you can play hard and play fair! (Pat was very proud of us!)

And to top it all off, a huge congratulations to Anita Scott, named Player of the Tournament – an absolute superstar on and off the field. 🙌

What a week. What a team. What a ride!

Bronze Medal Play-Off – WA vs Victoria g💛🖤🥉🏑
From the first whistle we were fast, clean, and sharp – yellow to yellow ball movement at its best. Our beautiful connections shone through, and it paid off when Suze threaded a fabulous pass to Mich, who drove into the circle and slotted home our goal. Cue big celebrations! 🎉

But we knew there was still plenty of hockey to play. Transfers and triangles kept flowing, and Juls even tried her hand at being Superwoman with a diving tackle (earning a quick stint on the “naughty chair” 🪑). Despite all our efforts, that elusive second goal didn’t come.

With six minutes left, the Vics pulled their goalie to pile on the pressure – and just to spice it up, C’Mac copped a green card (we’re still checking the ruler on that 5 yards 📏😉). But WA did not fold. Every player ran their heart out, backs strong, mids relentless, strikers fierce.

Then… the final siren. The relief, the joy, the roar – Bronze Medal winners! 🥉💛🖤

Game 6 – WA vs Queensland Maroon 💛🖤🏑
We knew this was going to be a tough clash, with Queensland eyeing off a spot in the gold medal match – and they came out hard and fast.

Early on, Joh pulled off an incredible save from a breakaway run, but Queensland kept pressing and found the back of the net twice before quarter time. 2–0 down.

After a regroup and some firm words from Coach Nathan (“be first to the ball!”), we settled and began to play on our terms. Our ball movement was sharp and we peppered their goal, but their keeper stood strong. Queensland’s strikers even dropped back to defend deep in the D, making it tough to convert our chances.

Despite our efforts, they managed another late goal, and the game finished 3–0.

Plenty of lessons to take away, and now our focus turns to Saturday’s Bronze Medal Final. 💪

Game 5 – WA vs NSW 💛🖤🏑
We knew this was going to be tough – NSW had beaten everyone coming in – but Coach Nathan’s pre-game pep talk (“leave nothing on the pitch, run harder than ever”) had us fired up.

From the first whistle we showed our hunger, dominating with slick passing, sharp transfers and tidy triangles that had NSW chasing shadows. Score was locked 0–0 at half time, but momentum was ours.

🔥 Third Quarter Magic:
• A stunning long ball from Hodgey found Mich, who drove into the circle, drew the defender and set up Ellie perfectly on the spot – who calmly slotted it in. The crowd erupted!
• Moments later, Bec threaded another beauty through to Mich, whose rocket shot was somehow denied by an outstanding goalie save.

But… with just 30 seconds left in the quarter, NSW caught a lucky breakaway and snuck in a fluky equaliser. 1–1 at 3/4 time.

The final quarter saw NSW “park the bus” 🚍 in front of goal, and despite relentless WA pressure we couldn’t quite break through again. Final score: 1–1 draw.

A gutsy, high-quality game – and proof that WA can take it up to the very best! 💪

Spotted in Hobart… WA Style! 💛🖤✨

Our first-time tournament stars Danni, C’Mac, Joh and Coach Nathan swapped their hockey gear for something a little more… glamorous! Rumour has it the locals are still dazzled. 💃🕺

Backed by the ever-wonderful Ellie, the crew showed off not just their fashion sense but the true WA spirit – bold, tenacious, and not afraid to turn heads off the field as well as on it. 😉

Game 4 – WA vs Victoria 💛🖤🏑
The day kicked off with a sharp warm-up led by Sami, getting us primed for a chilly, wet showdown with the Vics.

Coach Nathan’s mantra: link up, be first to the ball, stay low and hard – with a quarter-by-quarter challenge to lift, then lift again. And lift we did! The backs and midfield held strong, shutting down every attempt, while our ball movement was the slickest of the tournament so far.

Despite countless shots, dives, and near misses (some might say we were auditioning for a synchronised sliding team 💦), the scoreboard refused to budge. Final result: 0–0 draw.

Plenty of positives and lessons as we look to turn all that hard work into goals next game. Onward, WA! 💪

Game 3 – WA vs Queensland Gold 💛🖤🏑
An early start had us up and about with a solid warm-up. However a frantic opening saw Queensland slip behind our defence to score in the first quarter.

Coach Nathan’s calming words at quarter time helped us settle and soon we were back in rhythm. Some amazing passing play set up Bec, who crumbed a ball outside the circle, took it in and delivered a beautiful equaliser! 🔥

From there we kept moving the ball well and peppered the goal with shots, but Queensland’s defence proved tough to beat. Final score: 1–1 draw.

Post-game, the team bravely embraced Hobart’s chilly waters for recovery — squeals and all ❄️🌊. Plenty of lessons learned and confidence gained as we look ahead to tomorrow’s clash with Victoria.

🛋️ Rest Day Vibes in Tassie! 🌿🥘

After a couple of solid days of hard work on the pitch, today was all about recharging the batteries! Some of us kicked back and put our feet up ☕, while others laced up their shoes and stepped out to explore the stunning sights and mouth-watering culinary delights Tasmania has to offer.

From scenic coastlines to cozy cafés and everything in between — Tassie, you never disappoint. 💚

Back at it tomorrow, refreshed and ready! 💪

Day 2, Part 2. Huge thanks to Gail for stepping in as our team manager for the day. Great work! Unfortunately Pat became a broken sparrow when her knee decided to add itself to the injury list. The highly versatile team sourced a walking aid and the good drugs to help out.
