What a week it was guiding the exceptional students at Kaliana; we had an uplifting week and received this beautifully crafted card of appreciation, which was entirely unexpected but a heartwarming surprise. Can’t wait to see you all again soon and we already miss you 🙂

We frequently receive inquiries regarding the absence of bubble-blowing instruction in infant classes. Teaching children to blow bubbles in water may appear harmless or entertaining, but it can actually foster unsafe habits in terms of survival and breath control. Here's why: They learn to exhale underwater instead of holding their breath. In a real emergency, such as a fall into water, a child's lungs full of air are what keep them afloat. If they're accustomed to blowing bubbles as soon as their face hits the water, they lose that buoyant air and sink faster. It confuses the "float to breathe" reflex. Blowing bubbles encourages the opposite — exhaling underwater instead of conserving breath for when their face is out. It can create a habit of intentionally submerging underwater. Some young children become overly confident blowing bubbles and start dunking their face without comprehending the limits of safety or breath control, which can increase risk around water when supervision lapses for even a moment. It doesn't build true breath control. Proper breath control in survival swimming involves holding air until it's time to take a breath, not releasing it underwater for entertainment. Therefore, survival swim instructors focus on breath-holding, air management, and floating for air — skills that can literally save a child's life if they fall into a pool or body of water unexpectedly.
