What's the tournament on at the centre? It is the Pizzey Cup! 🎾🏆

The Pizzey Cup is the School Sport Australia 18 Years and Under Tennis Championships, and this year it is being hosted here at the Bendigo Regional Tennis Centre.

Action started on Sunday and will wrap up this Saturday. The tournament consists of the top Australian 18&U players representing their state, with each state having a team of 8 boys and 8 girls and they play each other in a team event round robin.

Alongside the Pizzey Cup once all team ties are complete for the day, the Tennis Australia Cup Singles Championship is also run for the honour of being Australia's best singles player at the event, our very own Aidan Fitzgerald won the Boys Singles event in 2003!

There is a familiar face in the Team Victoria camp and that is Bree Smith who is one of two coaches for the School Sport Victoria team!

The Victoria Boys Captain is Sam Simmonds, was the winner of the Open Event at the recent tournament held at the BRTC, so he knows he way around the Bendigo courts! 🎾

Congratulations to BTC Raiders from the Bendigo Tennis Club on winning the 2024/25 B Grade title in the BTA Senior Pennant! 🎾🥇

BTC Raiders claimed a 5 set 58 games to 4 sets 56 games win over BTC counterparts BTC Laser Shots. With 2 games splitting the teams, it was a nail bitter of a contest!

Well done to Kevin Sourgen, Aaron Broad, Steve Christensen, Dale Broad and Marcos de Noronha.

Congratulations to Strathdale Sparks from the Strathdale Park Tennis Club on winning the 2024/25 C Grade title in the BTA Senior Pennant! 🎾🥇

Strathdale Sparks claimed a 2 sets 28 games to 2 sets 25 games win over Ironbark, solidifying finishing 1st on the ladder.

Well done to Jonathan Ridnell, Brett Carter, Leanne Tuckerman, Damien Vagg and Benjamin Carter.

Wow wee! Just like that, 18 weeks of commitment, determination and embracing the grind is over!!!

Our juniors have had a BIG weekend! We couldn’t be prouder of everyone who participated in the BTA junior pennant over the summer.

Over this weekend, it was finals week and we had our players take out each section.

A Grade section 2- BTC / Strathfieldsaye top spinners- Winners! 🥇

B grade- SG causing a racquet- Winners! 🥇this is a team however, this last term we have been lucky enough to work with these boys in our tuesday squad at Spring Gully. Well done boys!)

C grade- BTC little aces- Winners! 🥇

Ben, our junior also had the opportunity to play in the seniors this season in a C grade seniors team. His team also had a win in the seniors on Saturday. Well done Ben and team! Great effort guys! 🎾

Again, as a coach we couldn’t be prouder of these teams as we have seen the hard work and determination these players have had at training and in their match play each week!

HUGE congratulations everyone! 🎾💪🏼 hard work sure does pay off!

On Friday we held our annual client Christmas party and it was an absolute HIT! 🎄🎾

Thank you so much to everyone who participated, helped out setting up, and to those who helped make the event what it was!

Special thanks to the Bendigo RSL for letting us utilise your amazing venue. Thank you to the BTC (Bendigo Tennis Club) for helping out throughout the whole event.

Breeze Tennis & Jim Wid Tennis came together over the weekend to celebrate the awesome year of tennis we have both had!

We wanted to spoil our coaches to a fun night out and that’s exactly what we did! Bowling, Dinner then the new Sporting Globe for those old enough.

We can’t thank our amazing coaches enough for what they do for us every day teaching the new generation of players. We definitely couldn’t run without them!
