Last Saturday 25th October, three fathers and four sons took to the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region greens in the same Premier League Side at Golden Square, for the 25/26 BCG Pennant season.
"We were pretty chuffed to have three fathers and four sons in the side," says Tom Lester, Golden Square Bowls and Croquet Club.
Since 2022, the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region introduced Premier League to their Pennant season, becoming the home to some of BCGR's strongest teams. Golden Square has maintained a side in Premier League since its inception.
At the conclusion of Round 4, Bendigo Bowls Club sits on top of the ladder undefeated along with the Moama Steamers, who have played one less game due to moving their round 2 clash against Golden Square. South Bendigo and Golden Square round out the top 4.
In season 24/25, Golden Square made finals for the first time in their Premier League history and played their first grand final against Moama. On the day, Moama would steam ahead to victory. Golden Square are striving to go that one step further this season by winning the grand final and booking their spot in State Pennant Championships.
"We're just trying to go that next step. Bringing in the permits have helped boost our side and us starting three weeks early really helped. Our aim is to get to the four and see where we go. It's been 10 years since we won our Div 1 flag so we're hoping to get one in Prem," says Tom Lester, Golden Square Bowls and Croquet Club.
