Gday tennis people! A reminder - the Benalla men's singles championship Open semi finals are now set to play.

Two matches were scheduled for today's perfect weather but the second semi will be moved to Monday as it is Argentinian Lucas's birthday today and his busy.

In the last two weeks we witnessed very good matches between our amazing players.🎾🎾🎾..so far those are some of the results:

🤩BENALLA SINGLES TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026 🤩

Entries are now open for the
2026 BENALLA SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS 💪
It offers a local, no travelling, singles tennis championship for all competitive players within our district.
This years CATEGORIES will include:
All gender Junior Under21's, Under 16's, Under 12's Men's Open (two divisions split after qualifying rounds) Women's Open

Entries close Friday Feb 6. and schedules/rules will run under the same format at last year.
For anyone that hasn't competed previously, the 1 st rounds will see players compete in pool matches. Players are scheduled to play just 1 Round robin matches per week, all of which are best of 3 set matches.
Matches are planned to commence from the 2 nd week of Feb. with flexible match times on Saturday's or Sunday's (Note players can actually play their weekly matches anytime, including under lights by agreement between you and your weekly opponent.)

Entry fees for this 4 - 6 week period cover player entry, balls and prizes and will be approximately $35 - $40 per player. Gardens Club members fees will be slightly cheaper but any local non-members are welcome and encouraged to enter and participate.

This year Gardens Tennis is also looking to add some new Junior categories. Open this year are an under 16 and under 12 division to find our best local junior players. We aim to give local juniors tournament experience, within having to travel to other areas. The Junior comps will run on a different format to the adults and will likely be played at a set/regular time on a Saturday or Sunday mornings. We believe this structured format will be easier for parents to organise their schedules. An emphasise will be put on junior participation and player development. Whilst we are looking to award Benalla's best junior players, a emphasise will be put on that competing and improving is equally as important as winning.

Spring is at the door 💐😀 and with it our Saturday comp and Sunday morning junior comp (pre Christmas once a month) (weekly post January).
Fomat women's DOUBLE men's DOUBLE & mix
We have suggested some changes for Section 1 Saturday afternoon adult format. Including shorter sets (first to 6), a new open gender 4 person section 1 format .
Section 2 will remain 6 player 3 male 3 fem format. A little confusing but all options still open.
We would like to gauge potential player interest. 💪💪
We understand it’s hard to commit but we think it is definitely a good thing to play weekly sport for the body and the mind. 🔥
Afternoon tea and social gathering guaranteed after every match🥪🥪🥪🥗🍻🍻

Going to be quite warm again. But beautiful day for a quick hit and swim for those that want either or both.
Casual Friday twilight tennis continues tonight & every Friday.

This weekend is Mens Open semi finals for the Benalla Singles Tennis Championships at Benalla Gardens Tennis Club. 2 Matches are to be played. Sunday 11 a.m. G. Murphy vs P. Neilson, followed by R.Evans vs M.Levy around 1 p.m. The weather is still perfect for tennis. Directly after these matches is a 'free to hit' social gathering for any local residents who feel like a sunny Winter hit of tennis on the hardcourts. Anyone who feels like jumping on a court for as short as 20 minutes or as long as they like is welcome to just turn up with their racquets and gear to watch any of the matches or around 2 p.m. for a bit of exercise. Players will be put on court with similar standard players and hopefully shuffled around to hit against various people of similar standards. Non members are welcome and your welcome to bring a friend. Some tennis experience is recommended.
