The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Belmore, a suburb in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney. They compete in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership, as well as New South Wales Rugby League junior competitions. The club was admitted to the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership, predecessor of the current NRL co

mpetition, in 1935. They won their first premiership in their 4th year of competition with another soon after, and later went through a very strong period in the 1980s, winning four premierships in that decade. Known briefly in the 1990s as the Sydney Bulldogs, as a result of the Super League war the club competed in that competition in 1997 before changing their name to the geographically indistinct Bulldogs and continuing to play every season of the re-unified NRL, winning their most recent premiership in 2004.

Titans v Bulldogs: Tino in, Bai out; Preston in the frame

The clash of last-start winners the Titans and Bulldogs promises to be an absolute cracker in front of a heaving crowd on the Gold Coast.

The home side are riding high after taking down ladder leaders Penrith in a thrilling contest decided in the final minute by a Zane Harrison field goal.

The Bulldogs also got home by a solitary point in Round 16, knocking off Manly in golden point thanks to Stephen Crichton's cooly taken field goal.

The Titans now boast wins over the 2024 and 2025 premiers in their past three matches and have attacking weapons across the park to trouble a Bulldogs side that has won just one of seven away from home.

With seven out of their last 10 matches at Cbus Super Stadium the Titans have a golden opportunity to finish strong and build momentum for a genuine crack at finals footy in 2027.

Team News
Titans: Co-captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui returns to the starting side after being rested last weekend. The prop is joined in the forward pack by Chris Randall, who makes his return from a concussion at lock and replaces Cooper Bai (head knock). Fa'asuamaleaui’s return will see Klese Haas shift to the six-man bench. A season-ending ankle injury to Jensen Taumoepeau has seen Jaylan De Groot come on to the wing in an otherwise unchanged backline.

Bulldogs: With Stephen Crichton's move to five-eighth proving success last week, the skipper lines up in the No.6 again with Matt Burton in the centres. The loss of Sitili Tupouniua to a hamstring injury sees Josh Curran start in the back row and Lipoi Hopoi join the bench. Back-rower Jacob Preston is listed among the reserves as he looks to return from an arm injury suffered in Round 12 against the Storm.

Stat Attack
The Titans have improved their defensive ranking from 17th in 2025 to ninth in 2026.

The Bulldogs have won five of their past six games against the Titans.

Titans winger Phillip Sami has scored a try in his last four games.

Bulldogs prop Max King will play his 150th NRL game and his 100th for the Bulldogs.

Titans forward Kurtis Morrin has scored four tries in his last five games.

Moving season: Why Bulldogs are primed for surge up ladder

Day three of major golf tournaments is known as moving day and the Bulldogs have vowed to take the same approach to the NRL season as they look to surge up the ladder during the third quarter of their campaign.

After a disappointing start to the year that saw Canterbury slump to 14th on the ladder with just four wins from their first 12 games, Cameron Ciraldo’s side has steadied the ship in the past few weeks.

Tight victories over Parramatta and Manly on either side of a bye have helped the Bulldogs stay in touch with the top eight and they’re eager to make the most of a winnable stretch of games in the next month.

With the Titans, Raiders, Tigers and Warriors, along with another bye, there is a clear path for Canterbury to claim the full 16 points on offer from the third quarter of their season.

Should they pull it off, the Bulldogs will likely sit inside the eight leading into the final six rounds and have control of their finals destiny.

ā€œI was chatting with a friend and if you’re not winning, people start talking about mathematical chances,ā€ prop Max King said. ā€œWhen people start talking about mathematical chances, you know you’re not really a chance.

ā€œThese games are important to avoid falling into those mathematical chance conversations.ā€

Fullback Connor Tracey agrees with his teammate and said the players recognise how important this stretch of games is.

ā€œWe’re viewing every game as a must-win,ā€ Tracey said. ā€œThis weekend leading into the bye is another important game so we’ve got to get a win this week.ā€

Canterbury built their success in 2024 and 2025 on the back of an elite defence, however they have struggled to adapt to changes in the way the game is played this season.

That has seen the Bulldogs leak plenty of points throughout the first half of the year but the signs are pointing in the right direction.

Canterbury have conceded just 12 points in each of their last two games and Tracey can feel the confidence starting to rise around Belmore.

ā€œWe’re a club that bases our whole game on defence and that’s been back the last few weeks,ā€ Tracey said. ā€œThe last two games were the sort of grinding games we like to be part of and it’s been good to get on the right side of them.

ā€œThe confidence grows every week on the back of that form. We’re putting in these performances and getting tight wins, we going to keep building and hopefully we can build to the back end of the year.ā€

With the defensive foundation laid, the Bulldogs are eager to kickstart a sputtering attack that averages just 17 points a game.

Injuries to multiple key players have made life challenging, while the team’s power-based style is also not suited to the fast-paced style of rugby league in 2026.

Young halfback Lachlan Galvin has shown flashes of brilliance, but his combination with Matt Burton has not clicked as well as hoped throughout the year.

That saw Canterbury throw captain Stephen Crichton into five-eighth last weekend and the skipper delivered by landing the winning field goal in golden point.

Crichton has been named in the No.6 jumper for Friday’s clash with the Titans, with Matt Burton remaining in the centres as coach Cameron Ciraldo looks for answers with ball in hand.

Tracey said there’s no hiding from the team’s attacking struggles but he’s confident their best is not far away.

ā€œOur attack’s been something we’ve been working on for a while,ā€ Tracey said. ā€œEvery week we’re coming in and working on our attack. That’s something that will stay the same.ā€
