RETRO JULY 2013 - SYDNEY FC VS BELMORE UNITED FC @ Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre

Over 1000 fans watched the inaugural Community Challenge between Sydney FC and Belmore United FC - the first time a fifth tier Club had played an A-League Club in July at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre.

The largest crowd for Belmore United FC in 2013, perhaps the largest since 1971 - thank you to all our fans as well as the Sydney FC crowd, especially 50 Cove fans that drummed all night that made the night a memorable night.

It’s always one of the most anticipated games of the year but for Sydney FC midfielder Peter Triantis the first game of the 2013/14 pre-season will have even more significance.

The 2014 Sydney Youth Cup, the largest youth football tournament for 8-18 year olds in Sydney and NSW will be held during the July school holidays, that is, June 29 - July 5, 2014 at Sydney Olympic Park, home of the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

The 2014 event will include the use of world-class facilities, Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, Wilson Park Stadium and the Warm Up Arena.

On February 9th, AFCAT will be presenting our very first ‘Interstate’ coach information day in Sydney, in conjunction with George Lazarou, Football & Technical Director of Belmore United FC.

George was our 100th AFCAT member and the final ‘Foundation Member” to join up when he flew to Melbourne to attend our WBA Football Foundation Seminar in July last year. Since then we have been discussing the possibility of delivering a coach information day in Sydney with the intention of forming a NSW branch of AFCAT.

The format for the day will be along the lines of

9.30am History of AFCAT, WHY AFCAT and the links, benefits and structure of our coaching association.

10.00am AFCAT THEORY- A ‘Snap Shot’ of German Football and the Bundesliga

11.00am AFCAT THEORY- How Goals are Scored at the Elite Level

LUNCH

1.00pm AFCAT PRACTICAL- Scoring From Wide Areas.

1.45pm AFCAT PRACTICAL- Possession Play and Direct Play

2.30pm SUMMARY- Future Activities/ Plans/ Opportunities.
