Back story to my Gradings for those who don't know -
In late 2021 I was asked by Ajarn Yai Malcolm Anderson (Founder of the ABK System) to design a new Grading Syllabus for ABK Muay Thai, which I was part of at that time. I left that System in early 2022 before I had a chance to hand my work over, and then made the decision to use it in my own Club.
I have the same Coloured Singlet system (White, Blue, Green, Brown) that I earnt most of mine under - BJC Muay Thai - where you have to show that you can do all the techniques in Class, correctly, and then complete some sparring rounds at the end.
But then I deviate with the Black Singlets (Black/White logo, Black/Red logo), which back in the day were equal to 1st and 2nd Degree Black Belt in the Karate side. I decided that these levels are where you need to show that you have heart and determination to overcome any obstacles, hence those being straight sparring. Those who have been around will remember the old ZDK 2nd Degree grading, know as the "Blood Grading", which was 30 x 2 min rounds of sparring. When you completed that, you knew that you had definitely earnt your Rank! This is what I wanted for my Students.
Red Singlet is the Khru ranking, which in Thai means "Teacher". For my Students this Rank isn't physical - it's all about understanding the techniques and being able to teach how to do them correctly. To pass this Grading, and become a Khru, the Student has to design and take a Class where they are able to demonstrate and explain the techniques to all levels of understanding within the Class.
