Pivoting or Rocking-horse is another good skill to warm-up and strengthen your body position on the bike. It is focused around keeping your body and core engaged and holding the position through the range of the movement, working towards finding the balance point on the front and back wheel. The importance of holding the body in position and engaging the muscles to move the bike, rather than swinging the hips and using the inertia of the body, is key to strengthening the muscles used to stabilise and initiate all bike control skills. Repeat in opposite stance. Increase reps, and hold balance points for more difficulty!

A bit swivelling is a good skill to warm up with. It loosens the hips and lower back, as well as engaging the core. This swivelling movement encourages the rider to feel the limits of their leaning angle, and grip of tires on the ground. This movement allows the rider to glide effortlessly, back and fourth, when travelling with momentum similar to that of skiing. Repeat in opposite stance. This is a beginner skill for any level of riding, and can be used as a warm up, or increase distance, gradient, and intensity, for a good burn!
