Roots of Yoga (previously Hatha Yoga Method) is a 12 month, 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training grounded in yoga practice, meditation, philosophy, inquiry, embodied learning and practical teaching experience.
This is a comprehensive and immersive training for dedicated practitioners seeking depth, confidence, clarity and a meaningful relationship with yoga as a living practice. The program has been created by Mandy Knox, Director of Kookaburra Yoga, and refined over many years, making this is an incredibly deep, well resourced training which is both rigorous and sensitive to the needs of all attendees.
While many students go on to teach, the training also welcomes those who wish to deepen practice and understanding for personal growth and integration. There are 3 levels of engagement to suit your aims, and the training is offered instudio, via live-stream with videos and course content uploaded to our learning platform enabling participating in your own time.
WHAT YOU WILL EXPLORE
• Yoga and meditation practice
• Haṭha Yoga, Rāja Yoga, Vedānta, mantra, philosophy, and contemplative traditions
• Breathwork, subtle body teachings, and yogic living
• Anatomy, sequencing, class design, teaching skills, and real practice teaching
• Mentoring, reflection, inquiry, and embodied integration
A SANCTUARY FOR PRACTICE AND STUDY
Held at Kookaburra Yoga Sanctuary in Bedfordale, the training takes place within a nature-based sanctuary close to Perth which becomes a place of practice, study, friendship, challenge, reflection and growth across the year. Many students describe the training as life-changing, with increased steadiness, confidence, perspective, and deeper connection with themselves, their practice and life. Over time, yoga shifts from something we do on the mat to something we live.
ACCESSIBILITY AND COMMUNITY
We are committed to making yoga education more accessible through Youth and Diversity Scholarships, together with work exchange pathways which support affordability. Students join from different ages, backgrounds, professions and life stages. Some arrive intending to teach, while others come to deepen their yoga and meditation practice and understanding. All are welcomed into our thoughtful and supportive learning community.
A RARE OPPORTUNITY
It has been almost two years since we last offered the Teacher Training. Because of the depth of the training and the commitment involved, we offer it periodically, and it may be some time before the next intake becomes available. If teacher training has been sitting quietly in your heart, or if you feel ready to deepen practice in a meaningful and supported way, this may be the moment to explore what is possible.
