WINTER SOLSTICE EVE • Fire Ceremony • Solstice Meditation • Dinner • this Saturday 20 June 5-8pm.

The Winter Solstice marks the longest night and the turning point towards the return of light. Across cultures and traditions it has long been a time to gather around the fire, reflect on the path behind us, and welcome a new cycle.

This Saturday evening we gather at Kookaburra Yoga for meditation, mantra, sacred fire ceremony and community connection. Winter is truly beautiful here with the misty mornings, the smell of the forest after the rain, the crisp starlit nights.

As darkness settles early over Kookaburra Creek , we enjoy some non-alcoholic mulled wine, gather for our fire ceremony under the stars, share in meal of hearty vegetable soup and sourdough, set intentions for the season ahead, and enjoy conversation, community and cacao.

At the heart of our Solstice evening is the Pavamana, a beautiful Vedic peace prayer:
Asato Mā Sad Gamaya
Tamaso Mā Jyotir Gamaya
Mṛtyor Mā Amṛtam Gamaya

Lead me from the unreal to the Real.
From darkness to light.
From mortality to immortality.

Life moves quickly. Places where people can simply gather, connect and feel at home have become increasingly rare. This evening is an opportunity to pause, reflect and share in community.

Whether you come alone or with friends, you are warmly welcome.

I've journeyed through another solar year and have reflected much this week on the many blessings in my life. As I move through this birthday week and look back across the past twelve months, one phrase continues to return to me, especially in challenging times: "My life is flooded with grace."

Rishikesh is a spiritual home in India for me, and a place I return to again and again. Quite few years ago we were at the ashram of the great sage and Vedic scholar Swami Dayananda in Rishikesh, India. He was very old and unwell and came in a wheelchair to meet the hundreds of people there that day.

I didn’t realise this would be one of the last public darshans he gave before he died. Swami could barely breathe unaided and his words were difficult to follow. He spoke little and all most was in Hindi. He paused for some time and then with absolute clarity said just this:

"My life is flooded with Grace. Guru Seva. Gayatri Japa."

As he spoke these words I could feel the grace and immense love flow through him to touch everyone in the room and I understood their meaning instantly. The depth and feeling behind his words was felt by all and there were many tears. He was sharing the secret to an extraordinary life: to live with an open heart, to serve with purpose and to consciously turn our attention toward the sacred.

Those words, have stayed with me ever since. At the time I understood them as a teaching about devotion, service and spiritual practice. This year I have come to understand them in another way as well.

Grace is easy to recognise when life unfolds according to our plans. The deeper invitation comes when life takes us into heartbreak, loss, disappointment and uncertainty whilst remaining open to the quiet gifts which continue to arrive each day, to remember that there are blessings even when life surprises us and gives us what we don't want.

As another solar year begins, my reflection is simple. Perhaps grace doesn't always appear in the form we expect. Sometimes it arrives as strength we didn't know we possessed. Sometimes as a difficult ending which creates space for a new beginning. Sometimes as the steady presence of those who love us. Sometimes as the wisdom which emerges after everything familiar falls away. Today I feel grateful for all of it.

Swami Dayananda's words spoke to my soul and even now they have the power to shift perspective and remind me how blessed I truly am.

May you too always remember, regardless of how good or difficult things may be, that your life is flooded with grace.

SOMA HEALING YOGA. This Saturday 30 May 5-7pm. Cacao, Moon Meditation, Breath, Mantra, Somatic Yoga, Sound Healing, Yoga Nidra.

You're invited to Kookaburra Yoga Sanctuary this Saturday evening for Soma Full Moon Healing Yoga in the rare beauty of the Blue Moon, the second full moon in May, an evening devoted to śānti (peace), sthira (steadiness) and sukham (ease, pleasantness).

Life moves in spirals. We circle back, though never to the same place, reaching back and bringing forwards the wisdom of the last moon and all past moons.

The nature of a spiral is curious in this way, we revisit familiar terrain, old intentions, quiet longings and qualities we wished to cultivate. Not all we bring forwards belongs in the present and we pause in the fullness of the moon cycle to see clearly what should be left behind. And then we come closer to peace, closer to clarity amidst uncertainty and closer to steadiness within the flux of life. The future unfolds in a continuum and understanding deepens gently along the way.

Our theme for Soma this month is śānti (peace), sthira (steadiness) and sukham (ease, pleasantness), an invitation to consciously choose peace, establish inner steadiness and cultivate an inner and outer world which feels calm, harmonious and nourishing to inhabit.

Together we will share in gentle healing yoga, mantra, breath, candlelight meditation, Yoga Nidra, sacred sound healing and moonlit stillness, an evening to pause, soften and return.

Kookaburra Yoga, Bedfordale. Saturday 30 May 5-7pm with Mandy. Cacao on arrival. Book online: https://www.kookaburrayoga.com/soma-yoga-healing-846856.html

We are honoured to be welcoming the inspirational Nitya Mohan back to Kookaburra Yoga Sanctuary from 27 to 29 November.

This year, Nitya launches her new program, Inner Strength and Resilience through Mantra, a three day workshop she is taking around the world, beginning in Ballina NSW in July and coming to completion in Perth, here at Kookaburra Yoga, in November.

Nitya was trained in yoga, music and Sanskrit from childhood. She holds a graduate degree in Classical Indian Music and is a master of Vedic chanting, ancient musical texts and Sanskrit. She is known internationally for her depth of knowledge, clarity as an educator, and the exceptional purity and beauty of her voice.

We share here a recent interview with Nitya, published by Yoga Australia, where she speaks about the potency and importance of mantra, voice, sound, emotion, intentionality, and the teachings she will offer during this workshop.

“śabda prapañcam (the world is sound). All thoughts are inner sounds. My world is my mind, and my mind is sound. To change my outer and inner world, I need to change my inner sounds. And this is what a mantra is.”

Bookings are now open for Perth in November. See our website to book for Perth: kookaburrayoga.com

See Svastha Yoga page for details on Nitya's dates around the world. And the Abhyasa Yoga Therapy page to book for NSW in July.
