RELAY GOLD IN DAEGU FOR HOBBS

After a long week competing in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 4x100m, TONY HOBBS was third leg in the winning M50 4x400m relay team.

In Tony’s own words
“Cracking last day in Daegu, Australia was punching well above its weight taking out 3 consecutive 4x400m age groups.
I was blessed to be in one of them.
Thanks to my team mates and all of the support, both near and far.
I think I ran a 56.59 split, which I am pretty happy with as my training has been impacted this last month”.

Our club has athletes of all ages ranging from eleven through to seventies!

There is competitions for everyone. Competing at the World Masters Chsmpionship is special. This was a special moment never forgotten.

Just reward for all the hard work Tony puts in, both on and off the track.

HOLLAND-SMITH HEADS GREAT WEEKEND AT BALLARAT

Last weekends National Cross Country Championships at Ballarat really tested the strength, mindset and resilience of competitors. If you haven’t seen the pictures, the course was mud, mud and more mud. Well except for the water, man made hills, and just for measure the logs out on the 2k loop. It was great to be there in person to see everyone slog it out in their races! This was a classic case of positions versus times.

In the women’s 10k KATE HOLLAND-SMITH made her way through the field over the first three laps moving up into the top 15. From there it was a challenge to keep others at bay and move up to finish 13th. In her first senior cross country ISABEL HOBBS had to step up from 6k to 10k and too her credit slogged it out to the end – a great experience.

There were some fantastic top ten finishes with ROCCO KENYON (U13) getting 4th place on the finish line, MARTINA HAMS GARRIGA (U15) was super strong on the second lap coming through get 6th place after finishing 26th last year, and EDDIE WILLIAMS (U12) who got in the lead group early and hung onto 8th. It can’t be estimated how hard it is to come top ten at the national cross country.

With big fields, the conditions, there were plenty of other great performances. One that stood out was LACHLAN HODGES (U17) who has made massive improvements this year to finish 17th but was 13th Australian.

EDDIE SHEPPARD (U13) proved why it’s important to run to the end and beat as many competitors as possible. His 23rd enabled the SA team including Rocco Kenyon to grab U13 team silver. Martina’s performance was instrumental in giving the U15 girls a team bronze. The young U12 squad missed a medal by 1 point.

HOLLAND-SMITH STATE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPION

It was a dominant display at the recent cross country championships at Waite Arboretum, when KATE HOLLAND-SMITH extended her lead every lap to comfortable win the Open Women’s 10k title. Big props to ISABEL HOBBS and CHELSEA DREDGE for representing the club in arguably the toughest event of the winter calendar.

Congratulations to EDWARD WILLIAMS (U12), MARIA KOWALCZYK (U12) and RACHEL HOBBS (O50) on their championship winning runs.

As expected plenty of other podium finishes for Flinders athletes.

BIG WIN AT EKIDEN RELAY (2.09.49)

As it turned out the conditions were tough having to navigate wet and some slippery patches on the Bonython Park course. It was a great day for Flinders winning both races.

Fantastic to have WILLIAM McCANN, KATE HOLLAND-SMITH, JACOB C***S, RILEY C***S, ISOBEL BATT-DOYLE and CONNOR HORTLE go under 2.10 to win by nearly 3 minutes.

Thank you to everyone who ran. We had 47 athletes compete.

Special mention to JACOB C***S, FRASER DARCY, ISABEL HOBBS, ASHA LAWSON, JACK HOBBS and COLIN AMBROSE who all ran the gruelling 10k leg, Without them its hard to get teams together.

A big thanks to STEVEN HODGSON for getting everyone ready before the start and as we attempted to keep track of leg times through rainy periods!

ASA MEMBERSHIP NEARS 200 NOW AT 195

A surge in mid-winter registrations has seen our ASA membership jump up to 195!!

It appears we are attracting athletes to our winter based training programs. Many have been younger school or Little Aths athletes keen to train and compete for the club now and in the summer.

Expect to see plenty of new faces at this weeks 4x2k Relays.

TOURNEUR WINS WOMENS CROSS COUNTRY AT FLINDERS UNIVERSITY

Back under lights for the first time since 2019 last Friday night for the Flinders Cross Country. While the loop was restricted to 1k it didn’t disappoint.

In the women’s race HANNAH TOURNEUR went clear early and never relinquished her lead to take a comfortable win. Behind her were two of the clubs talented young athletes MARTINA HAMS GARRIGA and EVA PFITZNER in third and fourth.

Great to see a new crop of Flinders athletes coming through with JETT NOBLE, TOM CARROLL and HUDSON KERLEY the first three home.

They might be young, but EDDIE WILLIAMS, ROCCO KENYON and CODY KENYON were impressive out in front of the 2k event.

As our ASA registrations grow over the 180 mark it was great to have KEEGAN WILSON, AYLISH BRADLEY, EMMA TUCKER, HUDSON KERLEY, CHARLIE STOTT and TIMON SIDERIS having their first run foe the club on home turf.

Thanks to everyone who helped on the night. The FREE BBQ was a welcome addition to the events.
