Kendo Club of Flinders University

Kendo Club of Flinders University Learn Kendo with the Kendo Club of Flinders University! Also, Interstate or International Kendoka are always more than welcome to attend our trainings.

Come and join us for a trial session at the Flinders University Alan Mitchell Sports Centre Wednesdays at 6-8pm, or Saturdays 8:30-10:30am. The word kendo literally means 'The Way of the Sword' (ken: sword + do: way), and can best be described as Japanese Fencing. Kendo's origins are most closely associated with the feudal Japanese Samurai and many protocols within today's dojos still reflect this

cultural tradition. Kendo has now become a popular sport form that is suitable for both men and women of all ages, who practice and compete together. The Concept of Kendo is to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the katana (Japanese sword). Flinders Kendo has been:

2016 - Team and Individual State Champions

2017 - Team and Individual State Champions

2018 - Team State Champions and Individual Runner up.

2019 - Team and Individual State Champions

2020 - Team and Individual (Male and Female Divisions) State Champions

We organize one eight week beginner's course every semester for those who would like to start practicing kendo. Trainings are at the Flinders Sports Hall on
Wednesdays 18.00 - 20.00 and
Saturdays 09.00 - 11.00. Check out our website for more information about training locations and fees! http://www.kendosa.asn.au/

As we’re approaching grading times, some are trying to brush up on or hone their kata. Here’s one of our absolute favourite videos from two incredible kendoka: Nihon kendo kata (1-10) from Kendo World Keiko-Kai (2012). Enjoy and good luck 😉
