Bayside MTB Club

Bayside MTB Club Our purpose is to promote mountain biking in Bayside and bring together Bayside MTB enthusiasts and their families to ride, socialise and basically have fun.

Simple! Bayside is an environment blessed with abundant natural beauty and a multitude of options to get out and enjoy it. Unless of course you are reliant on hills like a Mountain Biker. Sure, you can ride a mountain bike in Bayside and it’s great fun… but it’s clean and flat! Our Beach Road bike path and surrounds are awesome, but if you are into mountain biking (and there are plenty in Bayside

who are), then you probably want to get dirty and crave to get out on a solid single track or fast paced downhill course. So, maybe we can help! It’s hard to get out to the hills by yourself, often because it’s too much effort for one person. But what if you had people to ride with? And to those family members who resist taking their kids out because the prospect of waiting in the car by yourself is mind numbing, what if you had a place to sit, others to talk to and maybe have a cuppa? Would these things sweeten the deal? If so… then we are calling you! We are calling you to join our Bayside MTB Club. To begin with we are starting small so our initial approach will be to organise meetups at MTB parks. It will be open to everyone with no/low cost, but no frills either. We are doing this because we are keen to get started and gauge the level of interest in our community. Over time we will develop the club concept more fully, but for now it’s about getting out and riding. So, like and follow our page. That way you can follow our journey, see all our announcements, and get notified about upcoming events.

Hello all!

Putting this out to our community for some help.

BOOTR will be a key supporter and sponsor for the club once it gets established, but the main challenge has been getting word out to people who may be interested in joining the workshop team.

There are opportunities to join the founding team and we want to get those out to anyone working in a bicycle workshop.

Part of the BOOTR social enterprise model is to help neurodiverse individuals become bike mechanics and find work in the bike industry.

So, if you know someone who is working in a bicycle workshop, don't tag them here, PLEASE share this post directly with them or refer them to the BOOTR website using the link below.

https://bootr.com.au/be-part-of-the-founding-team/

Apologies for recent absence - stay tuned for some more club updates and events planned for November.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers. Mark

I am super excited to announce that after a long time in planning, a new venture is coming to Bayside: BOOTR Bike Workshop.

This EOI was posted in Bayside Community Hub, but I could couldn’t share much detail because it would break the rules! But, I wanted to share here because our MTB community includes people who work in the industry.

And, because BOOTR will be a sponsor for Bayside MTB Club moving forward.

BOOTR is a bike workshop with a difference.

It’s a Mountain Bike focused workshop offering workshop services and retail sales.

BOOTR is also a social enterprise with a neurodiversity mission and will offer employment and training opportunities for neurodiverse individuals.

A key initiative in this mission will be The Kicker Project which will offer hands on bike mechanic training and employment support programs for neurodiverse individuals.

Hence, BOOTR is on the lookout for a workshop manager (and others) to help get things off the ground and be an integral part of the future growth and expansion.

I think it’s a unique opportunity for the right person.

There are also opportunities for experienced mechanics who want a little part-time work or who would like to volunteer some time for our neurodiversity trainees. Every hour makes a difference to them and helps them on their journey.

If you know someone who might be a great fit, then refer them to BOOTR or DM me.

Hi everyone!

Well, it’s been a while since I have posted and even longer since we ran an event. So, I figured it was time to get moving again and post an update.

COVID has been a hinderance for a long time and in many different ways with lots of flow on effects for us, our families and our community.

But this time has also afforded the opportunity to consider these impacts and start planning for the future which, for me particularly, has involved working on several initiatives.

From a Bayside MTB Club perspective I have considered the responses to the survey and other feedback from followers.
The focus has been on some key aspects:
• Event calendar – Planning future events and setting dates. Expected events will resume in July kicking off with a local, family oriented ride (Gravel style).
• Club Strategy – What the future of the club looks like and how we will get there. This includes formalisation of the club and positioning it for future growth and member support.
• Advocacy – Working to improve our local community presence and facilities through funding mechanisms and sponsors.
• Resources – Creating capacity to invest in building the foundations for club organisation and growth.

In Bayside and surrounds there are many of us who are interested in Mountain Biking and that interest is spread across a diverse range of people and situations. We have interest from hardcore mountain bikers through to young families with children who are just starting.

The club was started to bring local people together for riding, wellbeing and social purposes. So, the plan moving forward will be to ensure we arrange community based meetups with different target groups in mind.

Looking forward to seeing you all when rides recommence.

Stay tuned for more news and announcements.

A big thanks to all who have submitted a response.

Hello friends!

I hope this long overdue post finds all of you in a good space.
It has been a while since the last post and I have had a few messages asking if the club is still operating. The short answer is yes!

To be honest it has been difficult to organise anything for several months now. Apart from the direct impacts of lockdown, the whole pandemic overlay has added a heavy layer to everyday life for all of us.

I will be quite open and say that we have seen some of the more severe impacts first hand for our family members and my focus, apart from all the other things to juggle, has been on their welfare.

Yesterday we heard from the Government about “the road out” which is simultaneously encouraging as it is scary. But it is inevitable.

I would like to put a positive lens on it all in that which such inevitability comes opportunities for us to come together and enjoy the things that this club is intended to embody. So, plans are afoot!

When the club started we ran a few events. The first was well attended, but the rest were not. And while even when just a few gathered it was a fantastic session. So there are a few things to think about as part of the planning process.

To help with that planning I have put together a survey that outlines some of the things being considered and to give all of you with an interest in the club to provide your thoughts and feedback.

Here is a link to the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScpgeLvm6nH-ila5GkybU26G5TweQeN8wbpJAcs3dp_Xk-AxA/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0&usp=mail_form_link

No personal information will be collected and the submissions will not be shared.

The more respondents we can get and the quicker we get them will help shape the future. So please click the link and complete the survey.

The survey will be closed on 30 September.

Stay tuned for more posts coming and hopefully some exciting announcements. And please share our page with others who have an interest in Mountain Biking.

Cheers. Mark

Hi everyone! Currently planning the next event which is likely to be at Buxton MTB Park on 17 April, 2021. More information to come.

I may be doing a recon visit this Saturday so if you would like to join my son Nick and myself there, comment to this post and I will be in touch.

The last event was a blast. This one will be a bit different, but should be a great time. Other events to come as well including another round at Lysterfield, a downhill session at Quarry Park and possibly the Wombat Loop.

Also, stay tuned for an upcoming survey so we can understand a bit more about your MTB interests.

Don't forget - like and share this post, encourage Baysiders and others to follow our page!

Cheers! Mark

Our first event - Thanks to everyone (About 30 of you) who joined us at Lysterfield MTB Park for a fun morning hitting the trails and getting to know each other. Its participation that will ultimately give our club life! Special shout out to members of Lysterfield MTB who volunteered to guide our riding groups and sent additional photos. Also to Andy Ronevluc and Nick Jaski who led our skills session. And Elise Maree for managing our base camp. Check out this slightly dramatised Movie Trailer, share it and spread the word... we are already planning the next event and beyond. Thanks. Mark

Time to put up your hand and say “I am going” to Lysterfield”!

Our first meetup event is this coming Saturday. A lot of you have clicked “I’m interested” , but we would really like you to click “I’m going”. So if you can come for a ride, please click the button now.

We have a few kind volunteers who will help groups of different standards navigate their way to suitable skill-appropriate tracks and back to our base camp. Thank you to those volunteers!

Even if you don’t ride (maybe you are on transport duty or simply want to show support) bring a picnic rug/chairs and your beverage of choice and hang out at base camp with others.

Remember, when you arrive check in with our event support team. We will have a quick welcome at 9:15 and then groups can head off around the park after that.

At 10:30 we will run a couple of skills competitions: Longest track stand and highest bunny hop!

Stay for an hour or stay for three, we hope to see you on Saturday 20 March at 9:00am!
