Grand Final Review

A historic day for the Bayswater Postels Cricket Club — our first A Grade premiership in 26 years!

Third Grade entered day two in a familiar position, tasked with defending a low total away from home. Three early wickets gave the boys a genuine sniff, but a strong partnership between Poletti and Bastin saw Ascot take control and ultimately the premiership. Matt Dowsett was outstanding, delivering a fighting spell of 2/6. While it wasn’t the result we were after, it caps off a vastly improved season with several career-best performances — plenty to be proud of.

Now to the main event.

An absolute classic unfolded at Brown Park. Swan View resumed at 5/75, holding a slight advantage. All eyes were on Matt Parnham, the key wicket, and both sides knew it. Wes struck first to remove Dunne with the score at 84, keeping things finely balanced.

The turning point came soon after — Prasad took on the attack and was gone and Greg to pulled off an absolute screamer to dismiss Parnham and swing the momentum our way. Sads then removed the number 10, leaving just one wicket to claim.

Enter Wes Mortin. Caught and bowled

One final breakthrough sealed a famous premiership for the top side — a thrilling 9-run victory.

Genuinely one of the best games of cricket many have witnessed.

The club extends its thanks to Swan View Cricket Club for hosting a hard-fought match played in great spirit at Brown Park. A special mention also to Noelzy from the Community Sports Show, whose contribution to community sport often goes under the radar.

One of the greatest days in club history. Thoroughly deserved, boys.

Now, let’s celebrate. 🏆

🏏 Grand Final Update: The Fight is On!

It wasn’t the dominant Saturday we envisioned, but both of our Grand final teams are still very much in the hunt. With a bit of luck and a lot of heart, both flags are still within reach.

First Grade
Sent into bat after losing the toss at Brown Park, it was a rocky start for the boys. We found ourselves in deep trouble at 4/31, which quickly slumped to 6/48. However, the lower order showed some grit.

A vital 47-run partnership between Matt Sadler and Jayden Francis breathed life back into the innings, pushing us to a total of 125. While under par, it gave our bowlers something to defend.

Swan View flew out of the blocks to reach 0/50, but we refused to blink. In a chaotic five-minute spell, a sharp stumping and two brilliant runouts swung the momentum. Two more quick wickets followed, leaving Swan View at 5/75 at stumps.

We’re slightly behind, but the momentum is certainly with us. Anything can happen in a final!

Third Grade
Skipper Jake won the toss and elected to bat, but the going was tough. After a steady start, a collapse saw us bowled out for 97.

The undisputed star of the innings was 15-year-old Tanmay Kulapaka. In a masterclass of patience, he occupied the crease for 58 of our 64 overs, falling agonizingly short of a well-deserved half-century.

We defended 98 last week—can we do it again with 97? Never count this team out when their heels are dug in.

Support the Lads!
The atmosphere at both grounds was electric yesterday. Let’s get as many supporters down there today to cheer the boys home. Whether it's a grind or a blowout, we are proud to be Bulldogs.
Go well, lads! Woof! 🐶

Double Grand Final Preview: The Year of the Dog! 🐶

Last weekend was a monumental success for the club, with both of our two-day sides securing their spots in the Grand Final. It’s shaping up to be a historic weekend—here is everything you need to know.

1st Grade: Chasing History
While the season has had its ups and downs, 1st Grade is peaking at exactly the right time. With 6 wins from their 8 two-day fixtures—including a Round 1 victory over our upcoming opponents

• The Stats: We boast three of the competition's top four run-scorers. Nick Scholl has been unstoppable, amassing 591 runs at an incredible average of 65.67.

• The Attack: Captain Consistent Wes Mortin leads the bowling attack with 29 wickets, supported by Matt Sadler with 17.

• The Challenge: We face Swan View, the competition’s standout side currently on a 9-game winning streak.

A victory this weekend would secure only the second A-Grade Premiership in our club’s nearly 50-year history.

3rd Grade: Grit and Youth
Jake’s 3rd Grade side defined "fighting spirit" this year. After finishing the regular season in fourth place (6-6), they pulled off one of the greatest wins in club history last weekend against Swan View to punch their ticket to the big dance.

• The Mix: The squad features a perfect blend of experience and potential. Five players are looking to repeat their 2023/24 premiership success, while three players aged 16 or younger represent the bright future of our club.

• The Style: Built on patient batting and clinical bowling, they take on Ascot away this weekend.

Get Involved!
To everyone not taking the field: we need you. Come down, wear your colors, and get behind the boys. Let’s make some noise and witness history together.
It’s a special weekend to be a Dog. Woof! 🐶

Grand Final season is here! 🏆

Our final Bailey Brewing Co. team selection of the year, with both of our two-day sides charging into grand finals this weekend. It’s shaping up to be a huge moment in the club’s history — our First XI into their first grand final in 25 years, and an incredible turnaround from the Second XI to get there as well.

Both teams remain unchanged, with Gibbo and Nicko named as 12th men.

An exciting time for the Dogs — best of luck, legends. Go well! 🐶

Semi-Finals Review 🏏

Both of our two-day sides headed into Sunday with a genuine shot at booking a spot in the Grand Final — and they delivered.

First Grade resumed at 0/38 against SKLP, with Taylor looking in great touch after returning from a calf injury. A steady start on day two had us cruising at 0/58 before he fell to a some good bowling from Gorshia. From there, it was all about patience and partnerships. The boys dug in, batted time, and got the job done after 92 overs.

The win sees us through to the club’s first A Grade Grand Final since 1999/00 — something everyone involved should be incredibly proud of. We take on minor premiers Swan View this weekend at Brown Park.

Third Grade bounced back in style after a disappointing batting effort on Saturday, resuming with the opposition in trouble at 3/18. Early wickets were key — and we got them.

Luke and Noah struck to have them 5/32, before Noah took control of the game. He removed Palmer at 51, then claimed the crucial wickets of Caleb and Greg Smith to finish with a superb five-for. L. Bussemaker chipped in with another, leaving us one wicket away.

Swan View’s last pair threatened to pull off something special, but Pup stepped up to take the final wicket and seal a memorable win. All out for 90, and Willow’s men are into a Grand Final clash with Ascot — a huge turnaround after being well beaten by the same side just two weeks ago.

Special mentions:
• Noah Gough — 5/44 (18)
• Luke Bussemaker — 4/26 (20)

Massive effort across the board. The Doghouse is buzzing — but the job’s not finished yet.

Two more days. Two massive opportunities. Plenty to play for.

Semi-Final Score Updates

A mixed day for the Doggies across our three teams playing finals this weekend.

H Grade
Terry’s H Grade season has unfortunately come to an end after being knocked out by City Beach yesterday. The minor premiers won the toss and sent us in to bat, and we were unable to build any real momentum throughout the innings, with Shaun Daye the only batter to pass 15.

A couple of early wickets from Jimmy Z gave us a small glimmer of hope, but City Beach proved why they’ve been the clear standout team in the grade this season. Still, it’s been a season to be proud of, gentlemen.

3rd Grade
Both of our two-day teams remain well and truly in the hunt for a grand final berth.

3rd Grade were disappointing with the bat again but have Swan View under pressure early in their innings. Willow won the toss and elected to bat on the small Brown Park No. 2. After losing leading run-scorer Damo first ball, youngsters Koby and Tanmay steadied the innings to have us 1/49 at drinks.

However, a quick cluster of wickets through the middle order saw us slump to 5/60. Some small but important partnerships, along with a fantastic innings from Tanmay (43 from 164 balls), helped us scramble to 98 — a genuinely defendable total.

Noah and Luke then started brilliantly with the ball, reducing Swan View to 3/7 in the seventh over. At stumps they sit 3/18, and a couple of early wickets next week could make this one very interesting. Go get ’em Doggies!

1st Grade
First Grade had a near-perfect day against SKLP down at Maguire Park. Wes lost the toss and we were sent into the field. SKLP built a steady opening partnership to reach 0/60 before Jayden Francis broke the game open, removing Halai and then the crucial wicket of Kush Gorshia in consecutive overs.

A run-out and a wicket to Wes soon had SKLP reeling at 4/77. A few small partnerships helped them push the total to a respectable 157.

We were sent in for a minimum of 15 overs before stumps, with Justin and Taylor seeing it through comfortably to finish 0/38. A fantastic effort to cap off the day, leaving us needing just 120 more runs for victory.

Finals Preview

It’s finals time, baby! For the first time in recent memory we have three teams playing finals this weekend. Very exciting!

First Grade

First grade bounced back with a dominant win over Forrestfield last week, thanks largely to a superb all-round performance from Matt Sadler (28 off 12 and 5/13). Wes’ men finished the regular season with 7 wins and 5 losses, securing third place.

They travel to Maguire Park this weekend to take on SKLP. We’ve beaten them both times we’ve faced them this season — and fairly comfortably too. Taylor returns as a massive in, while Damo Bussemaker drops back down to third grade.

Hopefully we can flip the script on last year’s semi-final result. Good luck, gents!

Third Grade

Third grade have had a much improved season after the challenges of last year. Six wins and six losses saw them finish fourth, earning a finals matchup against the clear benchmark of the competition, Swan View.

It’s been fantastic to see breakout seasons from Jaik Rushan and Dan McFarlane, while young Cameron has worked his way into the 2nd XI. The side fields a strong batting lineup this weekend, with Damo and Koby coming in for Hayesy and Nicko, who unfortunately injured his ankle.

Back in Round 2 we managed to knock off Swan View thanks to some strong batting performances — more of the same please, lads!

H Grade

Terry’s men have made finals for the first time in three seasons. A 9–8 record saw them finish fourth and set up a clash with minor premiers City Beach (15–2).

Like third grade, we’re one of only two teams to beat them this season, proving it can be done. It won’t be easy though, with City Beach coming in on a 13-game winning streak.

It’s been another solid season from the ever-reliable Andy Hep, skipper Terry, and Vince Zuccarino. The clear standout, however, has been Snibs Heyworth. In just his second season at the club he has taken 34 wickets at 13, leading the association by six. A strong bowling performance tomorrow could cause a massive upset.

Get around them, lads!

If you’re not playing tomorrow, try to get down and support one of the teams. We’ve got games all across the city — Beechboro, Swan View, and City Beach. The support means a lot to the players.

Back to 12:30 tomorrow, boys. Best of luck! 🤞
