Our fencers competed last week in the 2024 Senior National Champs in Brisbane.

Our boys did their best but faced a very tough comp with over 47 competitors to finish as follows:
Tarin - 26th
Alex - 28th

Our girls on the other hand fair better but unfortunately met each other in the top 8. Zara won and then went on to win the event.

We have ourselves a Senior National Champion.
Our fencer Zara, competed last week in the Senior National Championship and caused a big upset by bringing home the gold. Its been a long road for her with 2 previous years of silver medal results in this event, but her hard work has finally paid off.

Last week our fencers entered the first Senior National competition for the 2023 season.

In the Mens Sabre Alex and Tarin did well in the poules but had the misfortune of once again meeting each other early in the Top 32 DE. Alex managed to beat Tairn but lost in the next round in the 16.

As for the Women's Sabre, our girls went beyond their age limit and produced some outstanding results.
Tiana (11yrs) reached the semi-finals and lost to an older and taller fencer. But her result has secured her ranking in both Junior and Cadets.

Zara (13yrs) continued on and met the same fencer who defeat Tiana in the finals. This match had it all... harsh words exchanged amongst fencers and coaches, merciless attacks from both sides, tense moments of video calls, and an impressive comeback by Zara to steal gold at the end!

Well done girls on your hard-earned results.

And while we were down in Melbourne, HSA fencers also competed in the 1st AYC event for 2023.
Once again HSA dominated both Boy's and Girl's events.
Tiana crushed all competition to come home with Gold.
Alex and Luca had a difficult time in the pools and DE. Luca finished 5th, while Alex finally woke up and went on to win Gold.

Over the weekend the HSA team flew down to bright and cheerful Melbourne to compete in the U20 National Champs for 2023.

HSA girls dominated the U20 Nationals both in the pools and the DE. They finally faced each other in the finals where Zara took gold and Tiana silver.

In the boys U20 Nationals, Tarin had a strong start and finished 3rd going into the DE. Luca and Alex didn't do so well and were forced to meet in the round of 16. Alex survived that bout only to then meet his other clubmate, Tarin. This was a hard-fought bout by both fencers, with Alex only winning by only 2 points. Alex then went on to fence against Zeno who was older and taller than him. Despite the odds, Alex biltz ahead in the second half to win the bout 15-10.
Alex's winning streak came to an end in the finals where he was defeated by Colin 15-13.
Congrats to all our fencers who did their best and have shown improvement since last year.

Following her victory in the AYC Champs, Zara goes on to give the big girls a run for their money.
In her first Open National Championship, Zara dominated the pools and the DE, up to the final match.
There she fought a hard bout against fellow NSW fencer Gaia, losing only by a single point. Despite finishing second, we are all very proud of her result considering she is only 13yrs old.
Well done Zara and we look forward to how much further you'll go in 2023. 🥈

Congratulations to our girls who flew down to Adelaide to compete in the U15 AYC Championships.

It's been a long year but Zara has trained hard and been consistent in her results throughout the year. This all paid off with her victory and becoming the new AYC Girls Sabre Champion.

Tiana had a bumpy road throughout her poules and DE. After emotional breakdowns, a few tears, and an apparent head concussion, she managed to overcome it all with a bit of unsympathetic encouragement from her coach.
In the end, she stole a victory in the semi-finals from a more confident opponent. She went on to lose against Zara in the finals but comes away with a Silver.

Our boys went down to Adelaide to compete in the U15 AYC Championships. Despite a tough DE they managed to pull off some good results.
