After 3 years out of the seat and a newly built car 6 months in the making, we made it down to The Bega Valley Rally for the cars maiden Rally in The new Datsun 120y coupe, in Classic Class B.
Starting 48 out of 62 cars, after 15 stages, 2 of which were closed due to accidents, on Sunday afternoon we made it home in 34th position outright.
3rd in Classic class B and winning a Shire Road stage award for the fastest time in Class B for Stage 5, Upper Cobargo Rd on Saturday.
We were extremely lucky to have a trouble free event and were amazed that after finishing the night stages, and completing day one we were leading the class by 21 seconds. Something that Jarrod hadn’t set out the do, but with his driving being consistent, quick and controlled with both handling the car and the amazing job of Lachlan Moore from LJMotorsport in the navigators seat reading from the road book.
We would like to thank the following people that have helped make the rebuild and the event possible. Without them and their support it wouldn’t have been happened.
To Nigel Buttriss and his team Andrew, Ryan and Jemima from Canobolas Motorsport Services for the build of the car over the past 6 months, and the amazing workmanship and precision to detail( including the Peacock feather), as well as their fast pace and dedication during the refuels and servicing throughout the rally. Without you guys in our team the weekend wouldn’t have run so smoothly.
To Jamie at Waterhouse Performance, thanks for building an outstanding engine, sourcing parts for the car and tuning the engine to its maximum potential and performance. Without this little A-series powerhouse under the bonnet, we would not have gotten the end result of the rally like we did.
Lachlan Moore for coming on board to navigate, contributing to the financial outgoings and doing such an amazing and inspiring job staying on the notes and giving Jarrod endless encouragement after every stage. You’re a legend!!
Helen Gotch and Gerry for your endless support. Whether it be mental, financial or physical, you have always encouraged Jarrod to give it 110% during every event. And towing the car back allowing us to get home at a slower pace then the rally itself and transporting tools and equipment.
Our son Michael Anderson, thanks for allowing us to take you away from your own family duties, and from your own motorsports activities to help with the servicing and letting us use the Ute for the transportation of spare parts, fuel, tyres and the use of the esky to keep our crew fed!
Amanda Bailey Williams, Heidi and Paul for yet another weekend of rallying, memories and the caramel slice, melting moments and lamingtons kept us fed, for organising the accommodations, and for giving the rally a red hot crack, thus finishing 2 places ahead of Jarrod and Lachlan, and Amanda winning First Lady driver!! AWSOME EFFORT AND JOB!
Verus Italian Lubricants for coming onboard this year as a sponsor and supplying all of the Oils and Lubricants for the Datsun. Thanks must go to Canobolas Motorsport Services for organising all of this and putting the deal together. This has been very important and appreciated.
My mum and Dad, for keeping the end of their bed free for Archy to sleep on for the weekend and our Daughter Natalie for assisting with putting the bins out and keeping an eye on the house. Every little thing helps the weekends away to run smoothly and stress free.
Dan ☺️
