As we all know Holden has a special place in our country’s history and during its time became a Household Name all over Australia.
In 1948, Holden successfully completed the challenge of building an all-Australian passenger car the Holden 48-215 (known as the FX). Holden then went on to manufacture a string of models which helped them capture 50% of the Australian market in the 50’s and 60’s.
Dealerships like Fair Deal Car Sales (Boyden Holden Church Street, Parramatta) were selling many of these cars. In 1948 with the birth of the first Holden passenger car, and not long after (around 1950) came the birth of a one off masterpiece, the one and only Holden House neon sign (by Claude Neon). This masterpiece featured the first all-Australian passenger car, the Holden 48-215. The large neon sign stood proud on top of the dealership on Church Street, Parramatta where families gathered across the road and gazed upon the magnificent display in awe. It has been embedded in the memories of many people who had the chance to experience this display in its glory days.
Those days are sadly gone now and so has the dealership. In 2018, when we heard of the news that the dealership was going to be redeveloped into apartments, we were given the opportunity to acquire this magnificent sign and so we did. It was an exciting day we had a crane and a team of people to help us remove this piece of history from the roof of the old dealership. Amazingly the sign was in good condition. Being Holden lovers, we could not wait to have it displayed in our man cave.
Sadly, the day has come for us to part with this magnificent piece of Australian history. It’s time for someone else to enjoy and take care of it.
In the coming days we will announce where and how it will be sold so stay tuned.
