Hi everyone - I do have some exciting updates in the works, but in the meantime, will be postponing Wednesday and Thursday classes so I can give you a significantly better yoga experience.
I’ve been providing more specific information to people so please feel free to reach out if you’d like to understand more of what this is about. This has been growing and developing in response to your needs and so more of you can access the yoga practice. You will benefit so much more from this offering.
There will be some information coming down the track so stay tuned.
Let’s practice the actual yoga - not what you’ve been led to think is yoga. This is what it’s all about and you’ll love it so much more.

Hi Everyone. The heater saga continues … there are no heaters working or warm enough to heat the hall.
For background information the heaters have not been working at all. I’ve been juggling spaces and heaters but there is no effective outcome. The hall is about 6 degrees and far too cold.
The heaters are waiting to be fixed - hopefully soon!
I will keep you updated. Hopefully next week they’ll be working but I’ll have to cancel tonight’s class - Thursday 6th August. Please reach out to me if you have any questions. Apologies for the inconvenience.

But hey - this is life and this is practicing yoga. Yes yoga isn’t something you just do on your mat, it’s how you apply the yoga to your everyday life to manage the ups and downs and reduce stress and mental rumination and suffering.

If this happened to me years ago I would have been stressing out majorly - but now after implementing yoga practice into my life, I’m taking it all in my stride.

I’m continually developing my yoga skills and training and learning more and more - it’s a lifelong process. Recently I completed Accessible Yoga training back in May of this year.

There are a few reasons why i became a yoga teacher - but I won’t go into all of those now.

Every yoga teacher is unique in their skills and approach. I really love to learn the deeper parts of the yoga as well as making sure that people are moving their bodies safely, especially for when they’re doing a movement based yoga practice. There are so many injuries in yoga. Who would have thought!

I’ve been layering my learning, and recently one course I completed face-to-face in Byron Bay Australia was through the Accessible Yoga School. This course had so much information and learning from a wide variety of teachers and yoga teachings. It included honouring movement based practices for all abilities, ages, sizes, genders and even more. It’s really about honouring the person and their unique selves. This course wasn’t about making yoga “easier”, it was about asking “How can more people actually experience yoga?”

This course was run by who flew in from the states to teach in Australia for the first time. Support was also by and . It was a beautiful cohort and I learnt so much. Honestly you don’t need a body to practice yoga. There are so many ways to practice.

I’m so looking forward to including these principles into my classes so that anyone can feel comfortable in accessing a yoga practice.

I learnt how to think outside the box of what yoga shapes are and beyond the shape of a pose. How a chair, a wall, a bolster (or a creative household item!) can completely change someone’s experience. How the words we use matter. How offering choices is so much more empowering than telling people what they should do. And how accessibility isn’t an add on, it’s something we can weave into every class from the very beginning.

The biggest takeaway for yoga practice is that Yoga doesn’t belong to the bendiest, strongest or fittest people in the room. It belongs to all of us.

Here’s to more yoga that meets people where they are.

If all the hype about how great yoga is leaves you feeling like you missed the joke because your experience of yoga was far from profound, well it most likely wasn’t you and was probably the class.

I bet when you went to try a yoga class you weren’t so sure about it. It felt really awkward, and you spent all your time trying to figure out how to get your body into those shapes yoga people make. You wanted to feel more relaxed, but you didn’t necessarily leave feeling like you washed off any of the stress from your life. That never-ending list of tasks that have to be done in order to survive in this modern world. You know, like the constant organising you do for your kids, running back and forth through the house getting all those chores done, doing all the school and sport runs, paying the bills, being on the phone for hours sorting your insurance, meal plans and groceries, scrubbing the dirty clothes and and and, the lists go on and on. At the end of class none of that stress and responsibility you are holding felt any easier, in fact, you stressed about these things the entire class.

The teacher might have even told you to leave your worries at the door, and you tried, really, but by the time class ended you were left thinking “I just don’t get it. I don’t get what this ‘yoga’ thing is all about.”

I’m sorry if you have never experienced even just a brief wiff of what yoga can offer you. Yoga is sold as this ‘be all and end all’ to fix your problems or the magic potion that will turn you into a perfectly zen person, but that’s not yoga, that’s wellness toxic positivity, and it’s part of why people end up walking into the wrong class for them and writing off yoga altogether.

Yoga can certainly help you deal with life’s ups and downs and give you some physical benefits, but it is a process of practice and getting to know what yoga is really all about. If you have a teacher just moving you through the motions, then no wonder you have never touched on any stress relief benefits.

Yes! New classes are finally here! It’s been a long time in the making and I’m so excited to be able to finally offer more yoga classes for all you lovely Bathurst people.
These classes have a mixture of approaches and teachings all weaving together a way for you to experience yoga in a way that suits you. These classes don’t have those scary poses you see plastered everywhere - because yoga isn’t about the pose or shape you make!
Come along and find out.

You know physical movement is good for you. You know if you don’t ‘use it you’ll lose it’. So yoga is the perfect antidote right? Yoga is supposed to give you all the physical strength in addition to developing those chilled out yogi vibes.

You start doing yoga because you’ve seen the health benefits pushed in health articles through your feed and you’ve seen the pictures of a perfectly relaxed person in Childs pose. You want what they’ve got. You want what yoga promises to deliver. It’s burnt into your mind that simply going to a yoga class will give you all that.

But when you go to a class, you’re expected to twist into really awkward, and sometimes painful shapes, and the whole time you’re concentrating on just getting the pose ‘right’. You’re telling yourself you’re doing all the right things to look after your health, because this is what everyone in yoga does right? This is what you have to do to practice the yoga. Yoga is the fancy poses. “Putting my body into these shapes will help me with my physical and mental health because that’s what they say will happen”.

You’re doing great at caring for your own health and making all the ‘right’ lifestyle changes. You might even be so settled into your yoga routine without even realising that you’re just doing the poses without the yoga. You might not even realise you’re not getting all the benefits available to you. The movement might help to calm your body and your frazzled nerves, just a little bit. But that might be the extent of it. You might only be practicing yoga on your mat and in that class.

Yoga can help to look after your health long into your wisdom years. But it can be hard to find a class that 1, incorporates the yoga, 2, has accessible poses that are safer for your body and 3, incorporates trauma informed practice. My classes include all of these 3 aspects and are always fostered for acceptance and non-judgement of one self and others.

I’m going to be adding some extra classes in July, so if you’d like to come try send me a message.
