RRR Racing - Resurrected, Revived, Reloaded. Brian Houghton Racing Brian's mother made Brian promise that he would never race in the Isle of Man TT or other pure road races.

History of Brian Houghton's racing career

1975
Brian's riding days all started with his father salvaging an old Honda 90 step through from the local sandy mud flats beach of Pilling, which was duly stripped, and extensively modified to make a mini sand\speedway bike which saw him commence sand racing and long track but his mother soon put a stop to that thinking it was too dangerous for the young

Brian. Christmas saw a TY 80 trails bike delivered albeit unceremoniously by one of the familys bulk coal trucks transporting coal from south Wales back to the Houghton Depot in North West Lancashire.

1976 >
Riding in the Schoolboys British Championship Trials over the following years Brian won:
~ Isle of Man Schoolboy Trial twice
~Competed in Isle of Man Man 2 day six times
Leading on to becoming an established rider in the adult British Championship Trials scene.

1987 >
Saw the need for more speed and a defection to Motocross ensued. Commencing with a 1986 Honda CR 250, Brian soon established his place in the Northern Centre Region Motocross Championship.

1988
The purchase of a Honda 250 saw Brian take out the Northern Centre Region Motocross Championship.

1989 >
Was the beginning of a long association with the iconic Northern Suzuki dealer, Cooks in Barrow-in-Furness who supplied both the Suzuki RM 125 and 250. During this time Brian won the Northern Centre Motocross Championship five times
Good friend and legendary 2 stroke tuner and former European road race side-car champion Frank Wrathall of FW Developments made sure all engines were in top shape and was instrumental in the move to tarmac on a RS125 GP bike and only made possible by the ongoing support from Frank and Martin Crooks, the Houghton Family's transport business and the unwavering support of Brian's family. A promise that Brian still keeps to this day. Brian's first race as a rookie at Three Sisters, Wigan saw him thinking he had jumped the start as he streaked away from his competitors, he hadn't and went on to win all of his three races that day. Brian's experience at Wigan was repeated in Pembrokeshire where he won six of his seven races after crashing in one. Brian's unprecedented winning saw him attract close scrutiny on the start line as the local riders questioned his starts as he left them in his wake every race. He soon had the reputation as a 'holeshot merchant'. An intense six months of riding most of the circuits in England saw Brian qualify for a national road race licence . A move mirrored by motocross mates John McGuiness and Chris Walker. Brian's illustrious career continued, seeing him continually qualifying for the British Championship races.

1995
It all changed, seeing Brian give it all away when he packed up his life and with his family moved to the other side of the world and settling in Brisbane, Australia.

2013
Eighteen years on the bug has bitten again and with encouragement from his wife Melanie, Brian was tempted out of retirement. Within two weeks Brian had purchased a bike (250 Moriwaki), trailer, riding gear and booked for his first race at Morgan Park in October!

2014
Not one for looking back, Brian went on to purchase a Honda NSF250 HRC Moto3 machine courtesy of Kazu, legendary GP mechanic and owner of K1 Racing. Brian quickly returned to the good old days of competitive racing at the grand old age of 47 seeing him win the Southern Downs Championship. After an unfortunate clipping of the wall when rounding the corner under the bridge at Morgan Park resulting in Brian riding off the track severely winded and later discovering that he had broken several ribs and bruised his lungs, Brian missed out on a possible 2nd place in the QLD Championship.

2015
After a successful 2014, Brian defended his Southern Downs title and won, won the Qld Moto 3 championship and came runner up in the ASBK Moto 3. This was a busy year and only made possible with support and sponsorship from:
Latters Conshift
Allquip Mini Excavators
K1 Racing (supplier of Brian's bike and parts)
Ricondi (supplier of Brian's leathers)
Houghton Finance Solutions (aka Brian's wife)
RaceArt
Castrol Qld

2016 - Saw a clean sweep of, Southern Downs championship, QLD championship and at last a national title ASBK Moto 3 Champion.......at 49 years old.Big year could have done Europe easier, lots of miles again, good fun.
2017 Decided to carry on, procured a 600 set up from the Mavins, quick Hondas but in modern times not Yams. However despite destroying his already weakened right shoulder at the goat track in Goulburn ASBK rd1 the year was concluded with domination in QLD
2018 Selected national rounds
with top 10 results, cleaned up in Queensland, ready to get back to gardening.
2019, The temptation to jump on a superbike was to great for the geriatric Lancastrian. 2 very quick CBR1000RR SP Hondas were found and so it continues.
2020. having enjoyed local success on the big tractor 2020 was going to be an all out tour.......Rd 1 QLD 4 2nds behind the Spanish Aussie Corey Turner, after that the great scamdemic hit. and motorised 2 wheels stopped for the 54 year old ...
2021.. XC mountain bike racing...........keep watching.

Still on 2 wheels, it was on again, myself and the dark lord himself Michael Edwards. Bayview blast xc marathon........

“Out of the frying pan, into the fire”

What have you missed Oprah??????
With the 2020 Superbike season diminished by the rich mans 3rd world war pandemic, most of last year saw a move to a zero emissions pedal bike and after much lung spitting in my backyard of Daisy Hill/Cornubia trails and encouragement from various nefarious experts in the saddle , the time was right to defect to MTB 🚲
Now the 300kph boots are hung in the workshop, replaced by some funky clip in Shimano efforts, picking lines at 10-30 kph! It’s a breeze downhill, but uphill another story. Fast forward to March this year calls me, “you wanna do the Kooralbyn 4 hour Endurance as a 2 man team” Me, , “yeah, no worries”, secretly thinking “ piece of cake” WELL, bu**er me! You want to understand endurance! Pain, sports science, not having long legs, sports psychology, grit, determination, like 12 hours on a trials bike, 3 motocross races and 30 minutes around Philip Island on a Superbike. - all luxury in comparison 🤣Anyway looking forward to May and the 6 hour - must be mad 🤪

Diary of a Madman
52 Motosports meets the real “52yrs” of Motorsports.

Phone call on Thursday “Hey gramps, you got a garage for the weekend?” Me: “Hi Corey, yes, why”, “why do you think pops”, Me: “yeah ok, I’ll make room for you”

And so it was, Corey obviously in need of some mentoring on his “Factory Ride Dynamics Suzuki”, by the more mature side of racing. No one really needs to know about corners and gears and tyres and this and that and ands and if and ands. As per, the Spanish “Corza” grabbed pole and made a clean sweep of the weekend, myself a little bike rusty made a clean sweep of seconds which I’ve been told is good enough for a grandad in a young fellas world. So as old Bill Shakespeare once said “to give up or not to give up – currently rereading the script, to be or not to be.

Well done to the Spanish onion and Deb and Joe at Ride Dynamics. A mention is also necessary for the whirling dervishes #37 Michael (brake failure) Edwards and the Italian Stallion, Lowe Show Ben Lowe, nice to shake you fellas off for a change. Here go the credits. Kazu at K1 Racing, data man, engine man and common sense. Conshift for all the bits in between, Castrol for the l**e, AlyTek for all your race fabrication and engineering and this weekend, Stephen gave me “wings” on my custom rearsets. Phil at HiSide Leathers for the stitch up, Alan at RaceArt Australia for the stick up, Tim the Toolman at Superbike Supplies for the odd stuff for the pedantic Englishman and an extra special mention for the Minister of War and Finance Melanie for filling every role from cook, cleaner, tyres, helmet tech, logistics, loading, dressing and nursing – love ya! Big thanks to all the sporties crew as per usual for running a top event - best flaggies and officials ever.........unless you meet them on a Saturday night out lol 😂

WARNING – THIS IS NOT POLITICAL, THIS IS NOT ENVIROMENTAL, THIS IS FUN!
Well that’s a wrap for 2019! Only had the big tractor out a handful of times this year, hardly enough to get acclimatized. Managed 4 out of 5 of the Southern Downs Superbike, F1 World Championship rounds and finished on the overall podium for 3rd! This last round was a WHOPPER” with temps on Friday unbearable and strong winds for Sat, Sun racing. The main event of the weekend, The F1 Superbike was as hotly contested as ever – after qualifying and the Superpole, the stage was set!
International Superstar model and racer, Ryan “Von Ryan’s Express” Yanko, took pole, the loved up newly wed, Mitchell “Rambo” Paynter slotted in at 2nd and completing the front row was unusually the “Slowe Lowe”, Ben “Lowe Show” Lowe. Now here’s the kicker folks. The 2nd was a “GRANDAD” lockout LOL, the “good looking” compact factory…………..ME in P4, Dean “The Hit Man” Hasler on the ski resort special and rounding off the second row, The Dark Lord himself, Michael “Darth” Edwards on the Death Star Yamaha. The smell of fear from the front row was quite distracting for the “mature” second row as the visors came down.
Fortunately for the top 3, their start was a pearler, Yanko buoyed by Ducati’s start program, ‘Lovedups” Suzuki and “Lowe Show’s” ZX10 assisted by Woolworths self check out launch program (some cite race fuel in the Honda verses a plethora of electronic aids on their war machines) pffffft!
However, the oldest of the “pops” on the factory Arcare Honda after a lap of tea and biccies, reeled in the leaders and came home 2nd.
3rd race of the weekend, the big lap event saw the veteran Honda chasing down “lovedup” and “Von Ryan” but unfortunately doing a Marquez at turn 2 on the deadly deteriorating Morgan Park surface. Not the full MM however, but did get it on its wheels before it stopped sliding – yes I was impressed too lol Unluckily the RH bar was pointing up a the hole in the ozone layer above Morgan Park. So, after a slow run back to the pits (trying to drop as much gravel on the track as possible) it was game over!
The last event of the weekend was another 7 lap sprint, this had to be a hatchet job for grandad Honda, but within half a lap following “Von Ryan” in 2nd…………………….I’m SOAKED and looking for the windscreen wiper switch! Oh No! Scuppered again! The heat had been talking to the head gasket and he’d come out on strike, hence me getting showered with water gushing out of the catch bottle. Game Over………………….AGAIN!
Ok folks, until next time……………..(if there is one) Remember, never underestimate that old fella sitting in the garage mumbling incoherently to himself, slight dribble on his chin and a faint damp spot on his groin………………..he may bite lol
Big up to Neurofen, Rock Tape, human growth hormones, sport enhancing drugs, race fuel, Andrew “it will be here soon” Smart, @ Ricondi for dressing me, Uncle Phil & Craig at HiSide Leathers for stitching me up, (Awkward again), Alan @ RaceArt Australia for sticking me up, Castrol for lubing me up, Kazu at K1 Racing for race mentoring, mechanical, technical guidance and sense, my bosses Jim and Chris Latter at Conshift for all the hidden extras, Tim the Toolman @ Superbike Supply for sourcing the odd stuff for a pedantic old fart, Joe at Ride Dynamics for suspension tuning and re-setting an old dog with some new tricks (cheers coach) and AlyTek’s Stephen and Michelle Benjak for their support, encouragement and race engineering – you need it, Stephen makes it, everything from exhausts to foot rests – hugh thanks to all.
Last but not least, the ground crew – the outlaws Steph and Ray, who spend a fortune following us around the country, cooking, cleaning, fixing and hanging off pit wall with the giant vision impaired signal board – we’re not young anymore! Love ya! We’ll wind it up with the biggest up for “THE MISSO” Love ya!
Oh and wait, there’s more…………… Who can forget the Motorcycle Sportsmen crew, what can I say…………….I say, YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST – thank you! See you soon BR1AN

Well, that didn’t go to plan! 3rd track session yesterday, I woke up in an ambulance after apparently sliding off in turn one??? I have no idea what happened, but luckily apart from concussion and a stiff neck, no other injuries. Big thanks to Stephen and Michelle Benjak, Greg Watson, Bev Archard and Melanie for helping pack up the bikes and gear - much appreciated. Thanks also to the paramedics and the guys and girls at Warwick Hospital who after the confusion of the results from the brain scan and them not being able to find one (brain that is) it all made sense when they were informed I was a super bike rider and a brain isn’t required lol 😂😂😂😂😂🥴🥴🥴
