🌊 BlueZoneBundy Dive Dispatch: Lady Musgrave Edition 🐠

Just surfaced from another epic series of dives around Lady Musgrave Island, averaging depths of 22–24 meters. The outer wall continues to blow me away—it's like nature’s own underwater gallery, teeming with life and layered textures.

From towering coral formations to sudden drop-offs that reveal schools of pelagic fish, every descent feels like stepping into a new chapter of the reef’s story. Turtles cruising past, curious wrasse weaving through crevices, and the occasional reef shark keeping a respectful distance—it’s a living mosaic out there.

If you haven’t explored the outer wall yet, you’re missing one of the most diverse and dynamic dive sites on the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Big thanks to the crew and fellow divers who make these adventures unforgettable.

Dear Bargara Community,

I'm writing to express my deep concern about the recent decision to remove the Green Zone at Nudibranch Park/Hoffman Rocks on Woongarra Scenic Drive and move it 200 meters north.
I'm curious to know if many other locals share my belief that this was a mistake.
As you may recall, the new Marine Park rezoning plan, initiated in March 2024, resulted in the removal of this important protected area. While the overall increase in green zones to 12.8% is a positive step, I believe that Nudibranch Park, one of Bargara's three primary scuba diving sites, should have been preserved.
This area is renowned for its exceptional marine life and biodiversity.
It's a treasure trove for snorkelers and divers, and its loss is a significant blow to our local environment.
Unfortunately, the site is now open to spearfishing and line fishing, and we can expect increased boat and jet ski traffic.
While I understand that fishing is a popular activity, I believe that Nudibranch Park should have remained a protected area. We need to prioritize the preservation of our marine ecosystems and the unique biodiversity they support.

I urge you to join me in advocating for the reinstatement of the Green Zone at Nudibranch Park. Together, we can ensure that this valuable natural resource is protected for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Steve

What are the prospects for the weekend?

We have experienced a couple of clear days this week, although the heat has led to an increase in Trichodesmium algae, which is helping to replenish some nutrients in our thriving reefs.

🌊 Out at Llewellyn Reef again with the legends from 1770 Dive Spear Sport — and wow, she’s still thriving. Crystal-clear water, vibrant coral, and marine life everywhere you look. Every time we head out, it’s like nature’s giving us a standing ovation.

Big thanks to the crew for another epic day on the water. If you haven’t experienced this slice of paradise, you’re missing out.

🌊 14 Years Beneath Bargara’s Blue 🐠

For the past 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of exploring Bargara’s stunning coastline through scuba diving and snorkeling—and I’m still in awe. This stretch of Queensland hides some of the most beautiful and accessible shore dives you’ll find anywhere. While entry and exit points can be tricky, a quick chat with a local diver can make all the difference—especially when it comes to timing your dive with the tides.

Over the years, I’ve witnessed an incredible diversity of marine life:
šŸ‹ Migrating humpbacks breaching in the distance
🐢 Sea turtles nesting under moonlight
šŸ Sea snakes weaving through coral gardens
🦈 Sharks cruising silently
šŸ›ø Manta rays gliding like underwater spacecraft
🧔 And the tiny treasures—nudibranchs, shrimp, and all the intricate life in between

We’re also lucky to have several fascinating wrecks nearby. The HMAS Tobruk is our newest addition, but don’t miss the MV Karma or the Cochrane Artificial Reef, which features small planes, a gravel barge, and light ships—each one a haven for marine life and a thrill to explore.

My personal favourite? Nudibranch Park, tucked away at 201 Woongarra Scenic Drive. It’s a shore dive that never disappoints.

Diving here isn’t just a hobby—it’s a collection of memories etched in saltwater and sunlight. If you’ve ever thought about exploring Bargara’s underwater world, I can’t recommend it enough. Just bring your curiosity, respect for the ocean, and maybe a local tide chart šŸ˜‰
