🌟 FEATURE ATHLETE – STEVE DOMONKOS 🌟

Meet Steve Domonkos, a runner who thought completing the Oxfam Trailwalker 100km with three mates back in 2008 would be a one-off adventure...

Instead, he discovered the weird and wonderful world of ultra running and, in his own words, got completely caught up in the vortex! 😆

🐢 Running style: Legit back-of-the-pack plodder.
🍗 Favourite race fuel: Chicken drumsticks, chicken and chips, and the famous "Spag in a Bag" (which is exactly what it sounds like... spaghetti in a bag!).
⛳ Most random race item: A golf ball he found leaving Newcastle during GNW250 and carried for the entire run.

One of Steve's favourite ultra-running thoughts is wondering what an alien life form would think if they landed on Earth and saw humans voluntarily running around a track for 6, 12, 24 or even 48 hours.

👽 "Can you imagine what they'd think?"

Honestly Steve... we're not sure we'd have a good explanation either!

His running alter ego? 🐕 The Fat Labrador 🐕

When the pain cave starts calling, Steve turns to Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum. 🎵 "I'm not religious, but this song brings a smile to your face. Get into it!"

If he could choose any celebrity to crew him through the night, it'd be David Goggins. 💪 "He's a hard MF and I feel having him on the sidelines would keep me going."

Before the race starts, Steve admits he gets incredibly nervous and is usually found making one last-minute dash before the start line. Once the race gets underway though, he settles into whatever adventure is about to unfold.

And if his running shoes could talk? 👟 "Enough already!"

Away from running, Steve has a secret... 🎭 He loves a fancy dress.

When asked how he wants to feel at the end of the race, his answer was simple:

🏁 "That I gave it a crack."

And finally, a message from Steve that many runners will relate to: ❤️

"A shout out to partners and family who support their runners. These events are time intensive and having family support and crew makes all the difference."

Good luck Steve! We hope The Fat Labrador has plenty of snacks, a strong crew, and a great day out on the track this July.

🌟 FEATURE ATHLETE – SARAH GREALY 🌟

Meet Sarah Grealy, who has signed up for 24 hours of running in circles because apparently running further than ever before seemed like a good idea. 😜

Sarah's mission? To test her mental strength and see if she can keep her head in the game for the full 24 hours.

🐰 Running style: Quiet. Bouncy. Like a rabbit.
🍫 Fuel of choice: Nutella sandwiches.
🍔 End-of-race goal: "There's a burger in my hand."
🍄 Lucky item: A fluffy Super Mario mushroom scrunchie from Universal Studios Japan for those essential power-ups.
🎵 Pain cave anthem: Break Free by Ariana Grande & Zedd.

When the laps start adding up, Sarah's mind wanders to supermarket shopping lists and elaborate meal plans... only to forget every single one of them the moment she gets to the shops. 🤦‍♀️

Her running alter ego? 😁 The Cheshire Cat 😁

If she could choose any celebrity crew member, it'd be Lady Gaga:
✨ Wearing something outrageous.
🍜 Pouring hot water into noodles.
🎤 Singing through the night.

Sarah's pre-race ritual is simple: black "race nails" painted before every big event. And if her running shoes could talk?

👟 "Stop putting us through the washing machine please!"

Away from running, Sarah loves sewing and arts and crafts, and she'll have her most important crew member by her side—a determined 11-year-old who's planning to camp trackside with Netflix, a sleeping bag, and a steady supply of snacks. ❤️

Good luck Sarah! We'll be cheering for you, your power-up scrunchie, and hopefully that finish-line burger! 🍔🔥

Just one month from today we'll be taking over Campbelltown Athletics Centre for the 2026 Southern Sydney Track Ultra & Australian 24 Hour National Championships!

By now the training is (hopefully!) done, the taper is getting closer, and thoughts are turning to the important stuff...

Huge congratulations to Team Australia 🇦🇺 at the recent IAU Asia/Oceania 24 Hour Championships in Japan! 👏🔥

The Australian team came away with:
🥈 Women’s Team Silver
🥉 Men’s Team Bronze

A special shoutout to some familiar faces who have competed at the Southern Sydney Track Ultra in past years, and achieved their incredible performances on the international stage:

Who would like to go for a new PB or possibly even look to try for an Australian or International record attempt during their race this year.

The Southern Sydney Track Ultra is a fully certified and labelled race for 2026 and will be hosted on Australia's newest WA certified Athletics Track.

All runners will have the opportunity to come and race in 2026 on an all-new track surface that has a full World Athletics certified measurement certificate.

Along with being a certified measured track, the race also has been awarded an IAU Bronze label by the Australian Ultra and Trail Runners Association for the Australian 24 Hour National Championships, including all the following distances and times:

6 Hour race distances

Including being fully labelled and certified, the organisers also have acquired the addition of an all new international standard Laserline Rollpilot S12 measuring wheel that can accurately measure down to a distance of 0.01m.

This will allow any runners looking to want to go for any record attempts during their race, to have their exact distance measured accurately for ratification.
