🌅 Solstice Swim, Dolphins & Rays 🐬

A huge thank you to the Smackerals for hosting today’s combined solstice swim.

We were also joined by the Sandrays, Newy Swim Crew and Stockton OvaArmers, creating a wonderfully colourful crowd at the baths as the sun rose.

In a glorious start to the morning, 99 of us lined up along the back of the baths and launched into the ocean towards an awaiting pod of dolphins. We spent a magical and exhilarating time swimming amongst them, before heading north in a flowing stream of swimmers.

With too many swimmers to keep track of, everyone buddied up and chose their own adventure, finishing at Merewether, Dixon or Bar. The dolphins popped up beside us several times along the way, and an eagle ray glided underneath in the depths, until we spooked it and it took off in a hurry! A fiddler ray also made an appearance at South Bar.

A beautiful winter morning shared with great swim friends, dolphins, rays and a whole lot of ocean magic. Thanks for the swim, all! 🐬✨

🌊 Across the Bar & Into the Blue 💙

Fifteen Seahorses enjoyed calm seas and glorious winter sunshine today. An exceptionally shallow low tide made for an unusual start, with a stroll across the sand bar and a slightly more challenging passage through the surf. Once beyond the breakers, the ocean opened up into a beautiful expanse of calm blue water. 🌊☀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

The water temperature has just slipped below 18°C, but that’s still excellent for mid-winter and made for a very comfortable swim once we got moving. 🏊‍♀️❄️💙

Six Seahorses opted for the Cliff Return, while the remaining nine continued on to complete the Dixon Return. Some lucky swimmers were treated to the sight of a large eagle ray gracefully cruising beneath us near Dixon, always a special reminder of the wonders that lie beneath the surface. 🦅

Sadly, no dolphins joined us in the water today. In typical dolphin fashion, they waited until we were all dry, dressed and warming up on shore before making their appearance. 🐬🐬

Thanks everyone for another fantastic swim. Looking forward to seeing plenty of Seahorses at tomorrow morning’s Solstice Swim as we celebrate the shortest day of the year together. 🐬❄️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

🌊 Over the Reef We Go, Eagle Rays Below 🦅

Fifteen Seahorses made the most of a stunning winter morning, enjoying calm seas, sunshine and crystal-clear water. With conditions too good to ignore, we headed north today, gliding out over the reef and enjoying a different perspective of our beautiful coastline.

Six swimmers turned back at the point beyond Susan Gilmore Beach, while the remaining nine continued on towards the ANZAC Bridge, soaking up the perfect conditions along the way.

The highlight of the morning came on the return journey when we were lucky enough to spot two magnificent eagle rays cruising gracefully over the reef. As if that wasn’t enough, a few playful waves carried us back to shore to finish off a fantastic swim.

Thanks to everyone who joined today’s adventure. Great company, beautiful conditions and a memorable wildlife encounter made for a pretty special morning. Here’s hoping the ocean serves up more of the same next week! 💙🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️🦅🐟🌞

Winter’s Coming… and We’re Ready 🌊❄️

Sixteen Seahorses slipped into another beautiful morning swim yesterday, greeted by lovely rolling waves, clear blue water, and the sea still holding onto that summer warmth as winter quietly edges closer ☀️🌊

The group split three ways across the ocean playground:
🏊‍♀️ Four took on the Cliff Return
🏊‍♀️ Eleven powered through the Dixon Return
🏊‍♀️ And one ocean rogue joined us beyond the breakers for the return leg of a Dixon - Bar 🌊

Big thanks to everyone for the great company and another cracking morning in the water. Same ocean, different adventure every time 💙

Glassy Seas & Seahorse Dreams 🌊✨

Twelve Seahorses lined the rail, then slipped into one of those rare ocean moods where everything just clicks 🌊

Glassy, crystal-clear water carried us all the way to Dixon and back, the sandy bottom rolling beneath us like a moving postcard. Every stroke felt easy, every glance down a little bit magic.

No drama, no chop… just pure, blue serenity and a dozen happy swimmers soaking it up.

Days like this don’t shout — they shimmer ✨

Reef Scrambles & Dolphin Crossings 🌊🐬

Fourteen Seahorses tiptoed into the ocean yesterday… only the ocean forgot to show up 🌊😅

Low tide turned the entry into a bit of a reef-hop relay, with barely enough water to cover the rocks. It was a careful scramble, but we all made it out back relatively unscathed and ready to stretch into the swim.

We headed south and just before our cliff-stop, a pod of dolphins slipped past northbound… most missed it, a lucky few didn’t 🐬 🐬

From there it was steady, strong swimming, with all Seahorses ticking off the Dixon return. No shortcuts, no stragglers… just a tidy line of salty determination.

A little scratchy on the way out, a lot of smiles on the way back. That’s how we like it.

Choppy Seas & Dolphin Dreams 🌊🐬

Thirteen Seahorses took on a cheeky, choppy sea yesterday, a bit of bounce, a bit of roll, and just enough attitude to keep things interesting.

We headed out the back where the ocean played it cool… hardly a breaker in sight, just a wind-driven chop keeping the surface lively. Underwater, we could hear dolphins nearby, and right on cue at the cliff stopover they delivered the headline act, launching clean out of the water like they were showing off for us (which, let’s be honest, they probably were 🐬✨).

Swim splits for the day:
• 2 went the cliff return
• 4 pushed on to Dixon
• The rest went full Dixon return

A fun, slightly wild swim with a pretty special dolphin moment to top it off. One of those swims that sticks with you long after you’re dry 💙

🌊🌊🌊🌊 Saturday Swim Report

Nine Seahorses charged into the chop today, riding the rolling swell in a lively up-and-down adventure. The water felt warmer than the air when we jumped in, a welcome treat on a rainy morning that added an extra splash of magic to the swim.

Six powered through a cliff return, while three took on the Dixon return. Swimming in the rain gave the ocean a wild, cinematic feel, though the reduced visibility kept us close together.

Sonny capped it off in style, catching a cracking wave on the way back to shore 🌊

Thanks for another memorable swim, team!

🌊🐴 Good Friday Ocean Gathering 🐧🐟

The Seahorses were thrilled to be hosted by the Newy Swim Crew for the annual Good Friday swim, joined by our ocean friends – the Newy Sandrays, Merewether Smackerals and Lake Mac Penguins.

Conditions were ideal both in and out of the water, delivering calm seas, golden skies and plenty of pre-swim buzz. A fantastic roll-up of around 130 swimmers created a vibrant splash of colour along the shoreline.

Most swimmers cruised around to Newcastle Beach, with many backing up for the return leg, while others opted for the Cowrie Hole return – a perfect mix of distance options for the morning’s adventure 🧭🌊

Great company, perfect conditions, and smiles all round.

Thanks Newy Swim Crew for hosting, and thanks everyone for an awesome swim! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️
