ROUND 5 ~ AROUND THE COURTS
Well, the skies well and truly opened up for some of our teams this week! While our Under 9s and Inters just managed to stay dry, the rest of our players were left absolutely soaked. I guess that’s all part of playing a winter sport!
We saw a great variety of results across the club this round. Our senior teams were involved in some incredibly close contests, while our junior teams put on some high-scoring displays. It’s been fantastic to watch all of our teams continue to develop and compete each week.
A special mention to our Under 9s, we are loving the growth, determination and enthusiasm you bring to the court every week. Keep up the great work!

That wraps up Round 5, and now it’s time for regrading. We’re excited to see what the next phase of the season brings for all of our teams.
Enjoy the long weekend break, and we can’t wait to see everyone back on court for Round 6! 🤎💙💛

The team started the game off trying to get used to the wet conditions. Balls were missing their targets and many slippery balls were being dropped. Hahndorf took this chance to turnover our balls and score.
At quarter time we were down by one goal.
We still struggled in the second quarter with a heavy ball and getting used to the sudden down pour of rain.
With a couple of changes at half time and alot of encouragement, the girls picked up their defensive pressure and moved the ball swiftly and more accurately down to our goalies.
The team was back to their high standard of play which saw us take out a strong win.
Well done girls on turning this game around and making it a positive outcome.

Mt Barker Lutheran shot out of the gates with fast, accurate passing and scoring from the very start.
Our girls struggled with the wet conditions losing control of some of their passing in the first quarter.
Mt Barker Lutheran lead by 5 goals at quarter time.
The second quarter was closely contested as the girls stepped up with their defensive pressure and this saw many turnovers.
Mt Barker Lutheran only shot one goal this quarter.
The second half saw all the girls get into our rhythm of play, but due to a heavy ball, goals were hard to achieve.
A great fight by all the girls today. They never gave up, and as always, I’m so very proud of all of them.
A huge thank you to Harriet for playing in our team today too.

U9 Div 1
What an amazing game from our U9 Div 1 team today!

Our major focus this week was on making strong leads in front and using short, accurate chest passes. Rather than trying to move the ball to our attacking end in the fewest passes possible, we concentrated on maintaining possession, being patient, and taking as many short passes as needed to find the player in front.

The team worked incredibly hard on these skills at training, and it was fantastic to see them transfer that learning onto the court. They did an outstanding job of keeping possession, working hard to get in front of their opponents, and using short, controlled passes throughout the game. Their teamwork, patience, and decision making helped them dominate large periods of play.

A special congratulations to our Player of the Week, Chloe. While every player contributed to a fantastic team performance, Chloe consistently demonstrated exactly what we had been working on. She made excellent leads, presented strongly for the ball, and kept her passing short, accurate, and effective for the entire game.

Well done, Chloe, and congratulations to the whole team on a superb performance. Your hard work at training is paying off, and it was wonderful to see everyone put those skills into action on game day 👏

Player of the Day: Zoe Benger

Every single one of these girls came out firing this morning. Our passing was stronger and more accurate, with clean chest passes that helped move the ball down the court like pros. The girls listened beautifully to feedback and used their voices on court to support each other, call for the ball, and stay connected as a team.

We were hit with some heavy rain towards the end of the game, but despite the weather they kept pushing, stayed focused, and gave their absolute best. I couldn’t be prouder of their effort and resilience.

Our Player of the Day, Zoe, was a reliable option all the way down the court and supported her teammates brilliantly. Great job, Zoe!

Thank you to all the parents who helped with umbrellas, cheering, scoring, and timing. Your support makes such a difference!!

A2 went down to Hahndorf Black 38–36 in a hard fought contest that had plenty of intensity from the first whistle to the last. After a slow start, the girls lifted their pressure and work rate to fight their way back into the game and keep the scoreboard tight all afternoon.

Jas and Amy-Lee were strong in defence with some crucial turnovers, while Zoe shot accurately under pressure in goals. Maycie, Eliza and Tayla worked tirelessly through the middle, with Aliyah and Molly providing great drive and connection through transition. Emily created beautiful feeds into Zoe and shot some lovely goals also.

Despite falling just short, there was plenty of determination, teamwork and resilience shown right across the court.

A Grade
Onkas 55 def Echunga 37.
In our first indoor night match of the season, we were excited to get another win on the board and put an end to our loosing streak on court 3 at the St Francais courts. With an amazing crowd and our die hard supporters, both teams came out fighting with a goal for goal first 5 min. Our defence were able to make a quick turn over to get 2 goals ahead at the first quarter break, but Echunga kept fighting back.
We managed to settle into our own team rhythm in the 2nd quarter and they lifted in style.
Sasha and Lucy moved like queens in the circle, creating space and capitalising on the defenders turnovers quickly.
Holly and Claire stepped up in their defensive drives down the court to provide more clear options for our attackers to utilise.
At half time, the lead went out to 9 which gave the girls the confidence they needed to try new things. Jas and Chels were relentless in their defensive pressure in the midcourt and were able to work the ball seamlessly into the ring, feeding the ball in to the goalies- looking like they’ve been doing it for years.
The third quarter saw a few changes by Echunga, but nothing phased GK Kim as she made their day tricky with ongoing pressure.
The team goal for the last quarter was to not take the foot of the pressure peddle. To keep extending the lead as far as they could. Evie understood the assignment and powered along in WA in exciting fashion to dominate in our attack.
The final score: Onkas 55 defeated Echunga 37.

A big thanks to A2 players Emily, Amy-Lee and Molly for supporting on the bench and for our amazing possie of supporters for adding to the atmosphere.

Under 11 Div 2 Gold
We were treated to perfect conditions Saturday morning, and after checking in with the scorers at half time we realised neither team had wasted any ink on the scorecard in the first half. A few bibs were thrown around at half time trying to provide some more drive into our attacking third and this seemed to do the trick, with our goalies converting on some precision passing from our mid court crew. Our defenders continued to deny their opposition any easy possessions and we ended up 5-2 at the final whistle. Another great team effort.

Huge win for the girls today!
They came out firing from the first whistle and there was no stopping them. Our defenders put pressure from the get go to tirelessly keep delivering the ball to the midcourters who fed the goalies incredibly well. Great communication between the goalies made sure they made the most of each opportunity.
With a 19 goal lead at 3/4 time, the girls still gave everything and managed to pull away to a 26 goal win! The girls should be so proud of themselves!
