Two weeks into the new year and if you’re like the rest of us, you’re struggling with all of the positive new changes you’re trying to make.
Don’t worry, everyone does.
The solution is simple - focus on one change at a time, start with the easiest one to do, and cut yourself some slack if you miss a day or two.

Give it three weeks to form one new habit, then add another.
Again, take it easy on yourself if you miss a day.
Follow this cycle and before you know it you’ll be in bed before 10 every night, meditating for 15 minutes every morning, and getting 20 minutes of exercise every day - or whatever you have set as your goals

Don’t compare your goals to others - Celebrate your victories!

When this client started with me she’d been seeing a physio for her frozen shoulder - unable to raise her left arm above shoulder height.
With ongoing guidance from the Physio we began her training, and continued her road to recovery.
Starting with 500gram weights it was a slow process but her consistent work was paying off.
Her range of motion increased, her pain was gone, and she was able to press 1.75Kg overhead.
This weight stalled for a few months so when she completed her first set at 2Kg we were both over the moon.

This may not be much weight for some people but starting from literally nothing it’s huge! And if we look at the increase from 1.75Kg to 2Kg that’s 25% more weight! Anyone should be able to appreciate that difference.

This is what is all about!
Strength training - AKA Resistance/Weight training - isn’t all about getting the biggest muscles or lifting the heaviest bar in the gym.
It’s about positive impacts in the real world, and long term health benefits.
Not only did move a couch she previously struggled with but I can guarantee she did it safely, with good form, protecting her back while she did it.

As many people do, spends his work day sitting in a hunched over position which has lead to a weak posterior chain and some rounding to his shoulders.
A few weeks into training and his shoulder mobility and posture are improving, and here he is knocking out Sumo Deadlifts with perfect form - hitting his PB for both weight and total reps 💪🏻

Available to be done in the comfort of your home, a local park, or Bailey Fitness Baldivis gym - gym membership required but their own current special ($8.50/ week) makes it a great time to join!

Limited session times are available; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
*Terms & Conditions*
Location (home or park) must be within 10Km radius of Stockland Baldivis.
Sessions must be paid for in advance of session time, via Ezidebit system. Fees and charges may apply.
Special price locked in for 1 month, for as many sessions as you like.

“I don’t eat much fish”
For a group of people that live so close to the ocean I hear this far too often.
Fish is a great source of protein, Vitamin D, Omega-3, and several other important nutrients.
Omega-3 is an unsaturated fat - the good kind of fat - which plays a key role in cells throughout your body and particularly in your brain.
Fatty fish, like the salmon pictured here, have heaps of this Omega-3 goodness.

Not knowing how to prepare it seems to be peoples biggest hold up.
This is a salmon steak, coated in a thin layer of panko breadcrumbs and mixed herbs. Pan fried in a little olive oil and served with a fresh coleslaw this meal is simple, delicious, and a great way to get some fish into your diet.
Other easy options include fish tacos, tuna bake, or salmon red curry.
How will you be adding fish to the menu this week?

Not only is the plank a great core exercise but the laughter has your abs working too 😁

Despite what those ads on Facebook and Instagram say, you can’t “do this one exercise to melt belly fat”.
Sorry.
Spot reduction - fat loss from a specific body part - has been studied for decades and results show it just doesn’t work that way.
Most of these ‘spot reduction workouts’ simply isolate the muscle underlying the area you want to lose fat from and have you work that one area more than you normally would.
You feel the burn and this makes it seem like it’s working. But a few weeks later your thighs / belly / arms don’t seem any smaller and you’re left feeling disheartened.
At best these workouts will strengthen the muscles being worked. At worst they’ll be overtrained, fatigue, cause poor form, and potentially lead to issues or injury down the line.
Fat loss occurs through a calorie deficit in your diet - working off more than you put in - and works across the body as a whole.
But don’t lose hope! This doesn’t mean you’re stuck with your troubled spot forever. A tailored workout plan and assistance maintaining a nutritious diet are your tickets to a healthier, happier life.
