Grand Final - 1st XI vs Wembley Districts

Following the abandonment of play on Saturday due to inclement weather, the match was changed as a 40-over One Day fixture on Sunday.

Heading into the day, the 1st XI were quietly confident after a strong season in the One Day format, highlighted by their recent Grand Final success.

After losing the toss, Balcatta was sent in to bat. The innings began steadily, reaching 3/102, with valuable contributions from Heshan Perera (47) and Alex Galipo (24). However, a middle-order collapse saw the side slip to 7/133. Joel Handford (46) provided crucial resistance in the lower order, guiding the team to a total of 185.

With the ball, the 1st XI made an immediate impact, reducing Wembley Districts to 3/28. From there, consistent pressure and regular wickets prevented any meaningful partnerships from developing. It was an outstanding all-round bowling performance, led by Captain Jerra Smith (4/19) and well supported by Hassan Khadim (2/19). Wembley Districts were eventually dismissed for 141.

The victory secures a remarkable double for the 1st XI, claiming both the One Day and Overall Season Grand Finals. Jerra Smith was deservedly named Man of the Match.

A fantastic achievement for the clubβ€”congratulations to the entire 1st XI squad.

Time to celebrate. Go Cats!

🏏 WEEKEND FIXTURE – GRAND FINAL 🏏

** Saturday & Sunday, 28 & 29 March 2026 **
1st Grade Grand Final – 1st XI vs Wembley Districts at Pat Goodridge Reserve (Turf) from 12:30pm

It’s the big dance and the 1st XI will take on Wembley Districts this weekend. Head-to-head this season its 2-1 to Balcatta.

This is promising to be a great match but the weather looks like will play a big part to this game depending on the path of Cyclone Narelle up north.

The forecast is not looking good for Saturday but lets hope we can get some form of a game going on the park this weekend. The Sunday forecast is looking more promising.

We encourage everybody to get down and support the boys. Go Cats!!

🚨 UPDATE 🚨

🏏 1st XI

Batting first, the side posted a competitive total of 176 and had their opponents in early trouble at 5/54 by stumps on day one. The bowlers maintained the pressure on day two, dismissing Swan Athletic Caversham for 100. With ample time remaining, the result was put beyond doubt as the team batted through the remainder of the match in the second innings, finishing at 8/126.

Key contributions with the bat in the first innings came from Heshan Perera (64), Sean O’Callaghan (31), Julian Lane (25), and Charith Satharasinghe (21), while Joel Handford (28no) ensured control in the second innings. With the ball, Captain Jerra Smith led from the front with an outstanding 6/42, well supported by Sean O’Callaghan (2/26).

The team will now face Wembley Districts in next week’s Grand Final.

🏏 4th XI
The 4th XI’s season unfortunately concluded following a challenging match against Fremantle Mosman Park. After a strong bowling performance to dismiss the opposition for 110β€”led by Joshua Armitt (5/17) and Johnny Budalich (4/32)β€”the side was unable to build momentum with the bat, managing 54 in the first innings. Johnny Budalich’s 24 was the only notable contribution. With significant time remaining, Fremantle Mosman Park reached 5/81 before the match was called.

The Club is having a gathering to reminisce and remember Jenny Bridger this Saturday, 21st March at the Cricket Club, Jones Paskin Reserve at 10.30am.
All are invited if you can make it.
Look forward to seeing you there.

It is with great sadness that we share the news Jenny Bridger passed away earlier this week.

Jenny was a Life Member of Balcatta Cricket Club and one of the club’s original committee members.

She played a significant role in the early years of the club, particularly through her involvement with our junior program. Jenny also served as Club Secretary for many years and spent countless hours scoring matches and supporting teams. Our Club would not be what it is today without her.

For many players and families, Jenny was the first person they met when joining the club, always welcoming everyone with warmth and kindness.

Jenny was a truly beautiful and caring person who made a lasting contribution to our club and community. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with Jenny’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. πŸ’™
