How lucky are goflers when they arrive at Balaklava Golf Club and are surrounded by magnificent, bright canola crops! Go the green and gold!
A determined group of hopefuls took on the blustery conditions as they competed in a Stableford Event on Saturday.
No surprise to anyone when Austin Henstridge carded the best score of the day, after signing for 34 points. 2nd in C Grade was Jake Michael with 33, using the count back to relegate Richard Sandow into 3rd, also with 33 points.
The B Grade was dominated by big hitting Matt Hoepner, with a solid 33 points, way ahead of newcomer Jake Marzocca with his 28, leaving Paul Thompson to lament what could have been after his 27 points.
A Grade winner was Ian Michael, another solid 33 points, with Louise Michael back in her natural habitat that is the A Grade, with a respectable 32 points, leaving Bryn Jones to limp into 3rd with 29. NTP wins went the way of Matt 0n 3, Jake Michael on 8 with Tamika Gregory closest on 10. Tamika's drive on 10 was excellent, but we can only blame the wind for her drive on 9 that ended up in a nasty spot under a tree! (pictured)
With a big headwind into the 15th, alas no-one got onto the green off the tee. 2nd shot winner was Bryn on 13 with again no name pencilled in on number 9.
A few birdies were recorded, most notably by Ian on 4 & 7, Jake Michael on 8 with Brayden Harkness & Matt both having 3’s on number 1. With number 5 spun up on the birdie wheel in the clubhouse after play, the jackpot continues to grow.
This week you best prepare for warmer conditions, as we gather for a Stroke round, with Ian Jenkin up for starter duties, with Brayden on AM bar before Louise takes control after play.
With the final round of the Winter Shield set, Lachlan Wright continues his fine form, with a solid win over Bradley Serbert in the B Grade Final, taking the win 5 & 3.
Keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks as the A & C Grade finals are scheduled to be completed by September 19th.
Balaklava Golf Club is pleased to confirm that our Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday the 21st of September at the clubhouse commencing at 7.30pm. A special meeting will be held prior to the AGM to address items concerning constitution changes. We strongly encourage members to attend the AGM to look back on the progress made over the last twelve months, understand challenges facing our club and help shape the future of our club.
If you would like to nominate for a position on the committee, nomination forms are on the pin up board in the clubhouse or contact club secretary Matt Hoepner.
Also, our end of winter season day is set to be played on Sunday 27th September, in the way of a 4BBB competition to be played in pairs. Please be advised that there is no programmed event for Saturday 26th. Cheers Sno
