Tricky and wet conditions seemed to keep some away as only 15 started with just 12 completing the annual Ross Veitch Memorial Trophy, which just also happened to be the 1st round of the Moody Cup. A Par round with only one man, Lachy Wright, mastering the heavy conditions, winning the day all square, leaving Mark Loy to place second carding 4 down. Thanks to the Veitch family for their long-time support of the club.
With low numbers, it was decided to have 2 divisions for the day, with Mark best in Div 1 -4, just ahead of Brad Serbert -5 & Dave Coulter 3rd having -6. Dave (pictured) was last year's Moody Cup winner, who, like everyone else, will try to chase Lachy down!
Div 2 was dominated by Lachy all square, with Jarrad Mortimer 2nd 6 down on a countback from Nathan Starr also 6 down.
NTP winners were Mark on 3, Ryan McPharlin really close on 8, Jarrad nearest on 10 & again on 15.
Second shot winners were Lachy on 9 & Mark's approach on 13 deemed closest.
Birdies were hard to come by with Ryan getting his on 8, Bryn Jones on 10, Craig McKnight on 14 & Mark leaving his until the 18th. With number 15 spun up, the birdie spin will continue to jackpot for at least another week.
In Winter Shield news, Ian Jenkin just got past Mark Heaslip during the week, finally getting the job done on the 19th, Brad Serbert defeated Jarrad Mortimer 2&1, with Scott Michael all over Will Bedell 6&5. Please continue to work through getting your 1st round matches, ideally completed by July 12th.
This week we will crown the 2026 Moody Cup winner, with Bryn due to start things off with Ingrid Brice pencilled in for am bar duties, with Ben Michael stepping up in the afternoon. Cheers Sno.

What a day on Sunday for the annual 27-hole Balaklava Classic championship 4-person ambrose.
There were some excellent (and very close) scores across all grades.
(Names not in order in some pics)
Div 1 Gross winners with 91 off the stick (a score many can't hit for 18 holes!) were Adam Moller, Mick Bray, Kane Steele and Daniel Wilson. Close behind with 94 were Isaac Smith, Christopher Drew, Ben Spirat and Anthony Lynch.
Div 1 nett winners were Lachlan Wright, James Rundle, Tyler Morrison and Lloyd Morris with 85.125, just pipping Daniel Sherrah, Brendan Tobitt, Shane Kerr and Randall Hickey on 85.3125, and third place was the team of Chris Marshall, Baylee Jones, Peter Jones and Dave Coulter with 87.1875.
Div 2 gross winners with 99 off the stick were Daniel Ryan, Jesse Mathews, Zac May-Burgess, and Josh Colbourne (absent from pic), and runners up with 100 (on a countback from the eventual nett winners) were Kelly Curnow, Josh Scott, Craig McKnight, and Alex Kostich.
Div 2 nett winners with 88.1875 were Josh Harkness, Brayden Harkness, Jason McBride and Seb Holbrook, followed by Harry Hollow, Cameron Curnow, Scott Hollow and Andrew Nottage (absent from pic) with 88.8125, and in third place were Duncan Bell, Michael Togo, Mark Smart and Scott Smart with 91.8125.
Mixed team (nett) winners with 88.6875 were Kirby Felmingham, Keith Marks, Luke Howell and Andy Martin, from Bradley Ryall, Sean Hollis, Jonathon Ryall and Liz Cameron on 89.6875, pushing Jin Woo Lee, Se Young Jung, Kelly Kim, and Yong Bok Kim into third place on 90.1875.
And of course there were many long drive and NTP novelties.
And of course, great prizes for all of the winners!
Thanks to the major sponsors - Balco and Qube Logistics - and thanks also to Arbon Transport, Foodland Balaklava, and Coopers.
Organiser Ben Michael was thrilled with the success of the day, with the full field enjoying perfect weather and an excellent course.
Full credit to the volunteer course crew who have the course looking fantastic and the greens looking 'schmick'!!
Players were fed and watered all day on what has become a date to be put on the calendar each year.
Thanks to everyone who helped on the day in the clubhouse and on the course - a great team effort!
The helpers on the ambrose day utilised the newly refurbished kitchen at the golf club, thanks to a grant through the Thriving Regions Fund - Thriving Communities Program, through the Government of SA. Well done and a big thank you to the golf members who also gave up their time and skills to assist with various aspects of the old kitchen demolition and new kitchen installation.

Glorious conditions for golf!!
24 players were greeted with what looked to be favourable conditions for a Stableford round, with one young man standing heads & shoulders above the rest. Sam McCabe made a rare visit & showed the rest off the field how its done, carding an impressive 39 points, to clearly be best for the day & therefor taking the B Grade win, with Harry Taylor 2nd in this grade with 32.
A Grade winner was Murray Smith, also signing for 32 points, with James Rundle nudging Bryn Jones into 3rd, after both had 30 points.
In C Grade it was Janice Smith 1st, again having 32 points, just ahead of Chris Hahsey on 30, leaving Richard Campbell to sn**ch 3rd on a count back with 29.
NTP winners were Harry on both 3 & 15, with Nathan Starr closest on 8 & W***y Bedell cashing in on 10. 2nd shot winners were Scott Michael on 9, with Kelly Curnow getting his closest on 13.
With only a few birdies noted, namely Scott on 9, Malcolm Jones on 7 & Kelly on 17, the jackpot slowly rises after number 4 was spun up on the birdie spinning wheel.
This week it best you make yourselves available for the 1st Round of the highly regarded Moody Cup, a PAR event held over two consecutive weeks, in conjunction with the annual Ross Veitch Memorial Trophy this week.
Scott Michael will get things started with Ian Jenkin stamping cards & keeping an eye on things from the bar, before Josie Thompson consoles those who need to be in the afternoon.
Please be aware that the Winter Shield draw is now available to view either in the clubhouse or on Facebook. So, if you're involved please reach out to your opponent & make plans to play your match in the 1st round by July 12th. Cheers Sno.

- Men's Summer Cup winner Tom Lemon
- Ladies Summer Cup winner, Cherie Taylor (left) with ladies captain Louise Michael
- Finlayson Trophy winners Richard Campbell and Austin Henstridge

This week, disappointingly, a mere 18 players made themselves available for the Lower North Electrical trophy. A Stroke event held despite the challenging conditions. And so, it was Bryn Jones who handled the conditions best, winning the A Grade prize, & also best score of the day if you don’t mind, signing for 83/74. 2nd place went to Foggy Marshall 86/75, with early starter Kelly Curnow 3rd 79/76 3rd. The small B Grade field saw visitor Cliff Pistorius dominate with 93/77. C Grade winner was one Richard Campbell 111/74, leaving Austin Henstridge to limp into second place with 96/76. NTP winners were not to be found on 3, with Kelly closest on 8, Brian Tiller very close on 10 & Mark Loy on the green on 15. 2nd shot winners were again Kelly on 13 with Cliff hitting his second shot closest on number 9. Several birdies were had with Brian, Will Bedell & Kym Ryan, all having theirs on 10, with both Nathan Starr & Foggy Marshall birdying 11. Foggy also went on to have another on 16, with Matt Hoepner pretty happy to have his on 6. Alas, number 15 was spun up in the clubhouse later on, & as so it means the birdie spin jackpot starts to increase. This week we will gather for a Stableford round, with Jill pencilled in for starter duties, with help from Matt behind the bar in the morning, before Louise again keeps thing running smoothly in the afternoon. Also, we will back it up again on Sunday for our annual BGC Classic, a 27 Hole Championship Ambrose. So please, get involved & get your entries to Ben Michael pronto, on 0427199195. The Winter Shield draw will be available come 1st June, so please check it out & good luck to all those involved. Cheers, Sno

Saturated Saturday's Stroke
With a forecast of wet weather, 18 (dry) players started but only 13 fair dinkum all weather golfers completed a Stroke round, thanks to a torrential downpour during the back nine.
It was early starter Jarrad Mortimer who was best score of the day, signing for 88/72, just ahead of the ever-consistent Dave Coulter 77/72. So, no surprise that Dave also was 1st in A Grade, followed by Mark Loy 83/75, with Craig McKnight 3rd 85/78.
Jarrad took care of the B Grade win, ahead of the ever-improving Lachy Wright 88/73.
No surprise that stayed Nathan Starr won the C Grade prize, with a solid score of 99/76.
NTP winners were Bryn Jones on 3, Lachy on 8, Dave C on 10 & no one able to land their tee shot onto the 15th green. Second shot heroics were taken by Mark on 9 & alas, no name noted on the 13th.
A few birdies were highlighted, most notably, Jarrad’s on 7, which he will be happy to hear, has earned him a handy payout due to him cashing out on the birdie spin.
Others having birdies include Dave C & Foggy both on 17, Craig got one on 3 with Lachy having a couple on both 5 & 16.
This week we will pair up to compete in our annual Finlayson Trophy, a 4BBB Stableford event, so get yourself a partner, or we will find you one on the day.
Starting things off should be no other than Scott Michael, with help from Josie behind the bar in the morning, before passing the keys over to Ingrid after play.
Also, we are still taking nominations for the upcoming Winter Shield up until the end of May, with a draw due out early June, so please advise Club Captain Mark of your willingness to get involved asap on 0427 979 607.
Also, another annual event, our BGC Classic, a 27 Hole Championship Ambrose, is fast approaching. Taking place on Sunday 7th June, with lots of great prizes, you can check the details on our page, or alternatively, contact Ben Michael on 0427 199 195 for details. Cheers, Sno.
