Bairnsdale Clay Target Club

Bairnsdale Clay Target Club have won the budge shield series for 2026. With the series in its seventy-second year, the fierce and friendly competition between the Gippsland clubs remains. Bairnsdale held a small lead going into the final round of the Budge, a couple of points in front of Korumburra Gun Club and Morwell Gun Club. The McMillan Shield was finalised on the day, a junior team component to run in conjunction with the Budge, which Bairnsdale secured also.

Sixty competitors from across Gippsland battled some challenging weather, with bright sunshine to heavy rain and a bit of wind thrown in for good measure. Five people shot the twenty-five-target handicap event clean, Rohan Clemm (Bairnsdale) proved too strong finishing on a perfect 40/40. Matt Haw (Korumburra) and Leonard Quirk (Morwell) took second and third respectively. Tamika Leadoux (Bairnsdale) secured front marker while Rowen Foote (Korumburra) took back marker.

The series high guns for 2026 are:
Overall high gun: Rowen Foote (Korumburra)
Junior high Gun; Nick O’Kelly (Bairnsdale)
Ladies high gun: Kate Perry (Bairnsdale)
Veteran high gun: Kevin Newman (Morwell)

The final event on the day was a sixty-target double barrel championship. Rowan Foote and Frank Bagnato were the only ones to shoot the event clean, after a short shoot off Rowen claimed overall champion with Frank taking 2nd in AA grade. Jake Goedhart claimed A grade, a single target in front of Noel Cleal. Kate Perry took B grade after shooting off against Rohan Clemm. Tamika Leadoux won C Grade with Kristy Leadoux shot off to claim 2nd.

In just over a week, Tamika has collected her first ACTA sash, shot off for 3rd senior girls at the school zone shoot, and won the handicap at Morwell. Some well earned rewards for the work you've been putting in, well done!

On Saturday we held our August shoot and hosted 40 competitors on the sunny day. Well done to everyone who gave it a go and it was great so see such a welcoming atmosphere. One of our amazing members, Frank, is celebrating a pretty special birthday today. Frank has committed heavily to our club for well over a decade, a past president, long term committee member, always doing jobs around the club and an excellent ambassador of our sport. Happiest of birthdays Frank, we bloody love mate! You've probably earned yourself a nap or two.

On Saturday we hosted our June shoot which consisted of a 50 target double barrel championship and a 50 target point score championship. We had 59 shooters on the day and it was great to see newcomers and people who travelled for the event. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day run smoothly. Results are as follows:
