The 2026 Mt Baldy Open Fours took place Sunday 7th June.
This event was sponsored by Mareeba Mazda and we thank them for their continued support.
It was great to have bowlers from Ravenshoe, West Cairns, Mossman, Marlin Coast, Mareeba, Yungaburra and Atherton compete this year.
A big thank you to the ladies for the food during the day and to Derek behind the bar.
Winners on the day were Peter Woollett's Team, 2nd was Gary Kriesel's Team, 3rd place was Ivon's Team and 4th place was shared with 2 teams of Steve Smith and Brian Fitzpatrick.
It was a cold day on the green and many people were trying to find the sun when they could. It was a fantastic day, great bowling, lots of laughs and great to see everyone enjoying themselves.

On Saturday we played against Yungaburra for the Barrine Shield and came out winners by 20 points. The next game will be played in Yungaburra at a date to be determined. It was a perfect day for bowls, lots of fun was had in the best spirit and it is good to see this yearly tradition being continued between the two clubs.

Next Sunday is the Mt Baldy Open Fours and will be a great day for the teams competing. Good luck to everyone on the day.

We held our Annual Ladies Maize Festival yesterday. What a start as it was very cold, windy and wet so we decided to change the format to fours and not triples and then we didn't have to use rinks 7 and 8. A bit of shuffling of players by Yvonne and Beth and we were good to go.
We also invited the men to play, they may only play as leads. A lot fun, laughter, some good and ordinary bowls (plus a few wrong bias bowls), it was a great day.
The sun did show its head later in the day!

Atherton played in Pennants Division 2 and 3 over the long weekend. Very pleased to say that we won Division 2 and came third in Division 3.
This is the team who competed in Ravenshoe for Pennant Division 3. The team is Harry, Cathy, James, Trevor, Clive, Alf, Marco, Derek, Julie, Kay, Matthew and Harry. Playing on the grass may have been a challenge for our bowlers. Well done Atherton for competing in both divisions in 2026 pennants.

The Eight A side played in Edmonton on Sunday and lost to South Johnstone by 14 games. A faster green than ours so took some of us a little too long to get used to it. A great effort to all who played.

Our jackpot winners were Cathy and Cass who both won $250 each and were thrilled.

If you would like to watch some good, competitive bowls come along tomorrow as the Ladies District semi-finals and finals will be played from 8.30am in Atherton.

Good luck to the 8 A-Side on Sunday 26th when they play South Johnstone in the semi-finals at Edmonton.

A reminder that bare foot bowls is held every Tuesday starting at 6pm. This is a chance for beginners to start their journey on playing bowls.
