Our Annual Maize Festival was played on Wednesday 2nd and Sunday 6th September. First we must acknowledge our sponsors Greg and Joy Rockley and Victor Byrnes on the pork trays which were donated for the event. They have been donating these trays for many years and the club appreciates their yearly contribution.
Wednesday saw 32 players enjoying the afternoon of bowls and Sunday we had a full green of 64 players competing for the prizes.
Congratulations to everyone who competed and to the winners, well done.

These 2 days could not happen without the volunteers who worked and organised both of these days. We thank you one and all for your efforts.
We hope to see you all in 2027

Great news.
Atherton Pennant Team 2 has defeated Bowen 61 to 51.
Congratulations to all players, this is fantastic news for the Atherton Club & we are extremely proud of every player.

On Wednesday 19th August we welcomed a group of bowlers from New Zealand who are holidaying in Cairns. The weather was cold, wet and rather miserable but I am sure they enjoyed the experience of playing in Atherton. (They may have thought they were back in NZ)
Good luck to our pennant team who are travelling to Townsville on Friday 29th to play Bowen in the final. Play well, enjoy the experience and here's to a win.

We may be having our last taste of winter weather as it has been cold and wet for the last week but I am sure the warmer days are just around the corner.

Sunday bowls starting at 1pm is happening for the month of August - come along and have a game, fees apply.
Tuesday 1st September is the Yungaburra Ladies Bamboo Festival-let Yvonne know if you would like to play.
Wednesday 2nd September is our Annual Pork Day and Sunday 6th September is the Maize Open Fours. All sheets are out for these events.

Thanks must go to the Monday morning crew who clean the clubhouse, vacuum the green, attend to the gardening and other odd jobs. Without these volunteers our clubhouse and grounds would not look so s***k and span. If you wish to help please come along on a Monday morning from 7.30am and lend a hand.

The Weipa Classic was held over the weekend and a few of our bowlers travelled up to Weipa.
On Friday Eddie and Gary won the Lightning Pairs.
To top the weekend off Bruce's team (Hoppy's Hitmen) came 2nd overall with Bruce, Alf, Simon Griggs (Townsville) and Ralph Bullock (New Zealand). They also won the Calcutta $$$

A busy couple of weeks for our bowlers.
First our pennant division 2 team who beat South Johnston by 1 point and will now head to Townsville to play Bowen on the 30th August - we wish them good line, length and luck on the day.

We have had members competing in Champion of Champions over the last few weeks and we congratulate them on competing.

This year we decided to have our presentation day at the end of the championship games which was held on Sunday 2nd. 30 people enjoyed a free game of bowls and there was lots of laughter and members enjoying each other's company. Afternoon tea was served and then the presentation was held. It is a real shame that there were not more winners present. Thanks to everyone who helped on the day.
