Atherton Tableland Hockey Association 2026 SEASON STARTS FEB 14TH

Promoting, preserving, fostering and encouraging the growth and enjoyment of our sport.

Atherton Tablelands Hockey Association (ATHA) is a non-for-profit sporting club, run solely on the time and contribution of many dedicated volunteers. We are a family-focused club, which has been running and promoting field hockey in the Atherton Tableland community for over 80 years. We are proud of what ATHA has achieved thus far, and aim to continue this amazing legacy. Players continue to repr

esent our region throughout both Queensland and Australia throughout the year, whilst playing with our club year round. The club is proud of its strong band of volunteers who perform a number of roles including coaching/managing teams, ground maintenance, umpiring and canteen/bar duty. Our canteen is the major source of funding for the club and operates from around 9:30 in the morning until everyone decides to call it a day - we offer a variety of both cold and hot foods, and drinks. And for the adults, er have a liquor license, which operates each Saturday's from 12pm - late, and on Tuesday's from 5.30pm - late. All new volunteers are welcomed - we appreciate all of you, and could never do what we do without you. We appreciate any help you are willing to give. Monthly meetings are held at the club on the 3rd Tuesday or Saturday of the month - check Facebook for times. Join us to have a say or simply sit in to hear the latest news. Family focused games are played each Saturday during our Winter Season, and on Tuesday afternoons throughout our Summer Sixes season. From our Team 1 coach / Disco extraordinaire Lloyd.

This team came together last year, and it didn’t take long to recognise the talent within the group. From there, we began the building process.
We asked players to take on positions they had never played before and introduced a style of hockey that many were unfamiliar with. To say the girls adapted to these changes would be an understatement. Their willingness to learn and grow was outstanding.
Last year, the team finished third in Cairns, narrowly missing out on a grand final berth by just one goal.
This season, we decided to take a more relaxed approach to training and focus on enjoying our hockey. While we lost some players for various reasons, we were fortunate to welcome several new faces into the team. Our preparation included matches against the Men's Masters side and local C Grade teams, which proved invaluable.
The week leading into the Masters tournament, we lost not only a class player but also a huge part of our team. In response, the girls made a pact: "Do it for Lea."
This year, we were drawn into Pool A alongside Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, and Cairns, with our opening game against Ipswich. As soon as the girls stepped onto the turf, I realised we had something special. Against quality opposition, they showed they were not only a talented team but also a dangerous one. The ball movement throughout the tournament was exceptional, and they played with a level of understanding that made it look as though they had been competing together on turf for years.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this team's success: Maddie (Manager), Brenton, Tom Vidler, Michael Comino, the Men's Masters team, the C Grade team, and all of our supporters. Your support and contribution have been greatly appreciated.
I am incredibly proud of this team and feel privileged to be part of Atherton Hockey Club.

Words from Team 2 Coach Brenton:

What a weekend, what an experience!! 🏑
From the first whistle to the final celebrations, this group embraced every moment. For some, it was their first time ever playing on turf. For others, it had been more than 20 years. Players stepped into unfamiliar positions, covered for injured teammates and took on responsibilities they'd never faced before.
Naturally, it didn't all go our way. We were heartbroken when our much-loved Deb was injured, and there were a few moments throughout the weekend where things didn't quite fall our way.
Yet through it all, the resilience, adaptability, care and courage shown by this group were genuinely inspirational. And when that win finally came, it was bloody elating!
Off the field was just as memorable, with plenty of laughs, a few glasses of wine, some questionable dance moves at disco night and memories that will last a lifetime.
A huge thank you to Tegan, Bernice, our supporters, sponsors, the C Grade players who helped us prepare, and everyone who played a part in making the weekend possible. We couldn't have done it without you
Atherton 1, we loved your support, heard your cheers, felt your encouragement and knew you were with us through every high and low.
To Atherton 2, I couldn't be prouder. Not because of the goals, the draw or the win, but because of the way we went about it and the pure enjoyment we had along the way. Thank you for your trust in me—it was an absolute privilege to be part of the journey.

What an incredible reminder of just how special our Atherton Hockey community is. 🏑

A huge thank you to everyone who rolled out of bed early on a Sunday morning and gathered together to cheer on our Team 1 side in their Grandfinal.

Thank you to Zane, who got together a projector and rallied the troops to watch the game at the clubhouse.

Once again, Atherton Hockey has shown that we’re more than just a club—we’re a family. 💛❤️
