TRAIL STATUS UPDATE 12/09/2026 - AFMBP is now open. The QPWS planned burn is complete and the Park Closure has been removed. Take care on trails until volunteers and trail care crew can check for debris as a result of the fire. No change in other trails ie Trails 8, 12 and 17 remain closed, all others are open as per the trail status update post on 22/08/2026.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting planned burn operations (weather permitting) in Herberton Range State Forest between Wednesday 9 September to Friday 11 September 2026 (dates inclusive).

PARK CLOSURE - QPWS will be conducting a planned burn this Wednesday, 9 September. For safety reasons the park will be closed until Friday, 11 September ie AFMBP is closed 9, 10 and 11 September 2026. Further information is available on Park Alerts. Watch this page for updates also.

TRAIL STATUS UPDATE 05/09/2026 - No change again this weekend to the trail status ie Trails 12, 8 and 17 are closed as per the post on 22/08/2026. Trail 8 is almost ready to go, just requires a few tweaks. Trail 12 is going to take a few more weeks. We may be able to open the Trail 12 climb to Trail 17 soon - once the excavators have been moved and new signage installed. Watch this space for more info.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW TRAIL CARE CREW - Next time you're out on our trails make sure you say hello and thanks to our new VPG trail care crew - Judane, Saniesha, Joseph and Jacob. They commenced work in our park this week giving some much-needed attention to Trails 1 and 2 on the southern side of the access road. A special welcome also to Chris who has returned to the role of crew supervisor. We're looking forward to working with you over the next 20 weeks of the program.

🌿 Meet our newest Tablelands Trail Builders - Jacob, Judane, Joseph & Saniesha!

It’s the start of a big 20 weeks for the crew, who have already hit the ground running alongside VPG Project Supervisor Chris at the Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park.

Over the coming months, they’ll be learning on the job, building practical skills and gaining hands-on industry experience while helping to maintain one of the Tablelands’ great outdoor assets.

We’re so pleased to have Jacob, Judane, Joseph & Saniesha on board and can’t wait to follow their progress. Welcome to the team! 👏

First meeting is about setting the context and purpose of our event. See you at the clubhouse - Vernon St from 5pm, Wednesday 26.8.26. 🙌

TRAIL STATUS UPDATE 22/08/2026 - Here's the current info about our trail network. It's a bit later than usual, in Brisbane for the weekend. The Contour Works head honchos, Ryan and Evan, have three excavators in the park - machine operators are Ollie, Sean and Riley and on the handtools are Pemble, Conner, Ben, Dean and Nathan. Trails should be running nicely with the rain we've had recently, top sections of Rico and Yahoo might still be slippery. The moisture is great for the lower sections of both these trails though as they were very dry and powdery.

⚠️ Please do not enter the park while the closure is in place.

PARK CLOSURE - Planned burns 12 to 15 August 2026
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting planned burn activities (weather permitting) in Herberton Range State Forest between Wednesday 12th August and Saturday 15th August 2026 (dates inclusive).

Please see below for further details of closures of Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park during this period:

Wednesday 12 August - open but may be impacted by smoke at times
Thursday 13 August - closed
Friday 14 August - closed
Saturday 15 August – closed
In addition to abiding by the above closures, all park users are to remain on designated tracks and trails.

The aim of these burns is to maintain a healthy forest environment and reduce the potential threats from bushfires in periods of dangerous fire weather.

Persons with respiratory or other health problems should seek medical advice on mitigating the effects of smoke inhalation, should close windows and doors and keep medications close by if suffering from a respiratory illness.

Please use caution whilst visiting the park. Public safety is the highest consideration in all QPWS fire management activities. To find out more visit the fire management webpage.
