‼️Hunters please note dogs hunting in cane paddocks are at an increased risk of contracting Lepto!
As feared, we are now seeing a rapid increase in the number of leptospirosis cases at our clinics, particularly in the Ingham area.
INGHAM & CARDWELL RESIDENTS - we have extended our leptospirosis vaccination program at our Ingham and Cardwell clinics to assist in getting as many dogs vaccinated as possible - this means there will be no consultation fee charged when updating your dog's leptospirosis vaccination. Vaccination is the best protection for your pet against this life-threatening infection and we urge you to please call the clinic to book in any unvaccinated dogs as soon as possible.
While much focus has been on the worst affected areas, the majority of North Queensland has experienced heavy rain in the last few weeks - we remind residents from all NQ communities to be on the lookout for symptoms of leptospirosis, and we strongly recommend that all pet owners ensure vaccinations are up to date.
If you notice your dog presenting with any of the following symptoms, please seek urgent veterinary assistance:
- fever
- lethargy or reluctance to move
- loss of appetite
- excess drinking and urination
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- respiratory difficulty
- jaundice (yellowing of eyes, gums, etc)
