A much overdue update from the weekend. Here we have Fox helping Cameron run through some basic sword drills as well as shield ramming techniques. It was a very productive afternoon of which I did not take enough photographs. We also had 2 of our friends from NESSI drop by. We also had some friends from NEMAS there too to discuss the upcoming Creative Streets Festival. Come and see is on the 17th of October in down town Armidale

Varyags! Ringerike is training this Saturday the 26th of September. The invite is to ALL, not just Ringerike members. In preparation for the Creative Streets Festival, we will be having not just hard terrain combat but building our props department for the big night. If you are a Creative then you would be most welcome with the Hird this weekend. The garrison will be meeting at 260 Mann St from 12:30. Skalborg! GANGA FRAM!

With one week to go before this month’s training I wanted to take a moment and answer why, with the plethora of great options in Armidale, you might choose Ringerike as your club? We focus on a brief, 10 year period in history, being 1030-1040. A decade looking very specifically on Norwegian’s in the east, those who followed Harald Sigurdson in his exile as a mercenary and particularly in the Varangian Guard. We approach reenactment not as an opportunity to shop but to learn how to make things both with modern and historical tools. We hold workshops throughout the year, to up-skill our members in leather craft, textiles, woodworking and metal working; we also look for other opportunities to work with subject matter experts in other crafting fields. We’re a fighting club, training with spear, axe, sword and shield, part of a much larger group…. The New Varangian Guard. NVG is one of the oldest, extant clubs in Australia (along side our friends in NEMAS), with garrisons in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Armidale, Sydney, Victoria and South Australia.

Drengr of the Hird! The Jarl and The Stallari have held council and decided that it is once again time to take to the practice fields and hone our war skills. Furthermore, should any wayward Bondsman, who are bored with their lot and yearn for adventure, then they should listen for Harald’s battle horn and make themselves known to the warriors of the Hird! We always want more bodies for the shield wall! Fram!
