Results Round 9 - 7 February 2026

1st Grade met T.A.S. at Lambert, and City batted first. Marto back on form looked strong to start with; he and Meppo putting on 31 before Marto was dismissed. Karlos also looked the goods, making 23, and Rofey continuing his form added 26 off 30 before he was caught. City managed to bat out their overs to make 140.

Freddy snagged his usual early wicket, and a run out from Roo had TAS looking shaky early. Shags managed to break a 60-run partnership, then nabbed another one quickly, and Roo chipped in with two wickets as well. With TAS only having 2 wickets left, the game was in the balance, but TAS were able to get across the line at the end of the 32 over.

-

2nd Grade made the trip to Walcha, and Pat won the toss. Moses and Dale opened the batting before both fell in quick succession after a 20-run stand. Scully (47) got things back on track before he was eventually caught, but with minimal resistance from the rest of the order, City were kept to 112 off 30 overs.

The fierce attacking batsmen of Walcha/Uralla were delighted by a low total, and though the bowling was tight and the fielding spirited, City were in for a rough day. A great spell again from Butts saw him take 2 wickets and 3 maidens from his 8, and Jayden Hewitson took his first 2nd Grade wicket with an LBW, but Walcha were able to chase the total in the 25th over, securing a win by 7 wickets.

-

3rd Grade faced Servies at Bellevue, won the toss and batted. Some gritty batting throughout the innings, City kept the score ticking along. Jarrod and Sam (both 19), and Mark and Cooper (both 23) made great contributions to the total, and the team were able to pull together 125 runs from the 40 overs; having runs on the board at Bellevue always an advantage.

Lachy (1/13) and Sam (3/15) were economical with the ball to start things off, both picking up early wickets. Jarrod picked up 4 wickets in the middle order (4/23 off 8), the game swaying in favour of each team with each wicket and run. Servies, though, managed to hold on and caught City in the 36th, with 2 wickets in hand.
A rough day for City, and all grades look to bounce back next week.

Results Round 8 - 31 January 2026

40-over cricket resumed on 31 January, and 1st Grade took on Hillgrove at the Sportsground. City won the toss and batted. A few early wickets was countered by an excellent backbone performance from Pete Lye who, up from 2nds, top-scored for the team with 39. His late-innings partnership with Garrett (30*) got City to a defendable score, the team eventually being bowled out for 134.

Freddy and Karl picked up a few wickets, and with Hillgrove at 4/29, the game was in the balance. A great stand from the middle order with a few decent partnerships got Hillgrove back on track. Stubbsy brought himself onto bowl and picked up 3 wickets, Isaac Stubbs picking up 1, but Hillgrove were able to chase the total in the 36th over.

-

2nd Grade got moved from Bellevue to Jack Vallance Oval, to play Easts (Yellow). Losing the toss, the City bowlers were short on luck, the opening partnership making 90 before Brae nabbed the first wicket. Scully got centurion Jacob Finlay out, and Butts put in an excellent performance on a synthetic wicket to take 3/40 off 8, but some big hitting from Easts took them to 268 off their 40 overs.

City had a red-hot crack at chasing down the mammoth total. Big innings from Patty (51) and Scull (70), with other valuable contributions from the team were ultimately in vain, as City were bowled out for 233, 35 runs short of Easts.

-

3rd Grade took on Walcha/Uralla down at Walcha, and Walcha batted first. Lachy Laycock put on a clinic, bowling 6 maidens in 8 overs and ending on 1/5. Jarrod Green (3/16) and Rodders Watson (4/17) were pin-point accurate and with a great team effort, bowled out Walcha/Uralla for 93.

In reply, Hugh got off to a great start (15), and Mark (23) stayed steady at the crease, while other batters came through and made their contributions. Sam made a quick 19, before Deeps and Jarrod got City across the line, chasing the total in the 28th over.

Results Round 7 - 29 November 2026

No cricket was played on Round 6 due to rain, but Round 7, played on 29 November 2025, was on.

1st Grade took on United at Sportsground. United won the toss and batted. City bowlers put the pressure on right from the start though, with openers Ollie and Shags taking two and three wickets respectively. Karlos also chipped in with three wickets, and with United playing short, were bowled out for 76 in the 26th over.

Brenno started the chase well but was caught for 11, then Karl and Marto put on a 58-run partnership before the latter was bowled for 20. Marto, unbeaten on 32, saw out the run chase, City winning by 7 wickets in the 17th.

-

2nds played Hillgrove at Bellevue. Hillgrove won the toss and batted, and Dale got to work on the top order, taking four wickets in the top six (4/13 off 8). Scully (3/21 off 8) and Simon (2/24 off 8) kept the middle order quiet, while Sav took the last wicket to keep Hillgrove to 113.

City’s chase was tough; if it wasn’t for Pete’s 58*, they would have been in trouble. Pete was the backbone of the innings, no-one else getting above 11, and nine wickets falling. An outstanding innings, Pete hit the winning runs in the 37th over, sealing the win by 1 wicket.

-

3rds also took on Hillgrove at Harris, the toss going Hillgrove’s way and batting. Though 3 ducks were taken, several decent scores kept the scoreboard moving for Hillgrove. Lachy took 4/42 off his 8, and Amanda (back from representative duties) took 3/21 off her 8, while Hillgrove set a total of 171.

In reply, Cooper (56) and Lachy (21) made some great runs, putting pressure right on Hillgrove, and late resistance from Agro (27) kept a spark of hope, but regular wickets and a high total meant that City fell short, being bowled out with 3 balls to go for 150, Hillgrove getting the win by 21 runs.

Round 5 Results – 15 November 2025

1st Grade were unable to play, the field to thoroughly soaked from some Friday night rain.

-

2nd Grade were re-scheduled to Jack Vallance Oval, the synthetic wicket quite unfamiliar compared to Bellevue. Again the toss was won, and Pat elected to bat, testing out United’s bowling attack. Things started as usual; Ash attacking aggressively, with Pete managing the difficult balls and rotating the strike. Ash scored a quick-fire 35 (18), with Skins falling a few overs later for 9. Moses and Pete put on 42 before Moses went for 32, and let Jarvo loose. A great innings, almost chanceless, Jarvo hit all around the park. Rain delayed things for some time, losing 3 overs from each innings. Pete was bowled for 35 as well, and eventually Jarvo was bowled, not before posting 50 (58 off 37). A late cameo from Pat (36*) and an injury to Brae (who had to retire hurt) meant a bitter-sweet ending to the innings, posting 228 off 37 overs (City 2’s highest total since February 2020).

Joshy and Dale started well; tight bowling for not many runs, making the high target more threatening. Josh picked up a wicket in his 3rd over, and Pat’s horrendous 1st over was moderately salvaged by a wicket in his 2nd. Meppo, subbing on for Brae, showed his 1st-Grade skills, with a run-out from the boundary assisted by Butts. With the tough ask to be a leggie on a synthetic wicket, Butts also showed his skills, picking up two wickets. Dale, Pete and Pat each took one wicket, with Joshy taking the last pole in the 31st over, keeping United to 120 and sealing the victory for City by 108 runs.

-

3rd Grade were also moved to synthetic, playing at Doody Park. Also winning the toss and batting, Hugh and Mark fell early, but Anthony and Dilshan steadied the ship. Anthony anchored the innings, with several batters making contributions around him, but it was Anthony who kept the scoreboard ticking over, notching his first half-century in the green and black. Rain delays reduced the game be 2 overs per innings, and Anthony was eventually bowled for 52. Rodders and Joel were unbeaten at the end of the innings, the score 8/122.

Lachy and, fresh from her NSW Masters-rep-duty, Amanda opened the bowling. Lachy was as economical as ever, but it was Amanda who was first among the wickets. The pressure on, Amanda (3/30 off 6.0) took a double-wicket-maiden in her 4th, the score 4/20. Rodders replaced Lachy, also keeping it tight, and took two in his 5th over. Only Ashan from TAS (who last year took a hat-trick and made 77 against City) made a substantial score, again making 77. TAS were only 9 runs behind when Mark (3/19 off 4.1) took the final wicket; a tense finish but finally a full game for City 3rds, who secured 3rd place on the standings.

Round 4 Results – 9 November 2025

1st Grade were back up against United at the Sportsground, looking to follow up from the great Round 1 win. With the toss won, City went in to bat, and Brenno came back out two balls later. Karlos joined Marto at the crease, the two chipping slowly away. Picking up the pace as the innings went on, Karlos was eventually dismissed for 27 in the 18th, the score 2/63. Kyle and Marto ramped it up, hitting 4’s and 6’s around the park, putting on another 72 together, before Kyle was eventually bowled for 38. Stubbsy started in top gear, and the last 10 overs went for 90 runs, with Marto (76*) and Stubbsy (51*) both going flat out, Stubbsy even losing a ball in the racecourse. City ended up on 222, with Richie cracking a smile from the heavens.

Ollie started the defence with a maiden, then a wicket in his second over. Fred and Ollie struck in consecutive overs, and Crispy nabbed one as well, with Rofey taking a screamer. Kyle, in what may be his final game for City after 12 seasons and nearly 4000 runs for the Club, took a wicket on his first ball of his over, and added a wicket maiden to his impressive record. Stubbsy and Brenno grabbed a wicket each, Freddy taking another, and with weather affecting the length of the match, United could only make 54 in response, with the match being awarded to City by 168 runs.

-

2nd Grade took on Walcha/Uralla at Bellevue. Another poppy deck, City sent in Walcha to bat first. Joshy Clee spared no time, and took two huge wickets in the first over. Dale kept things tight at the other end, but the spotlight was on the 14 year old, who took another two in his third over. Daley got the grade’s leading run-scorer Ed in the next over. Butts came on, taking 2 wickets, with Pete and Pat taking one wicket each, before Dale took the last wicket in the 32nd to restrict Walcha/Uralla to 93.

Pete and Ash started positively, though Ash nicked off in the 2nd. Alistair and Pete put on 42 with some great strike rotation, a handful of booming boundaries from both. Pete eventually went in the 17th over for 16. Alistair and Justy put together another great partnership, with Alistair eventually falling in the 27th for 39, only 13 runs to get. Justy and Skins accumulated the rest, City 2nds finally scoring a win over Walcha/Uralla for the first time since Walcha/Uralla joined the ACDA in the 22/23 season.

-

3rds made the pilgrimage to Walcha to play at Peter Fenwicke Oval, and were sent into bat. City lost 3 for not-many early, though Rod and Jarvo put together 31 before Rodders was trapped in front. Jarvo top-scored with 28, Coops also with a great contribution of 24, but a few quick wickets at the end kept City to 95 off 30.1 overs.

Lachy again opened the bowling with a handful of maidens and a handful of wickets, bowling his 8 straight with figures of 3/17. Mark and Rodders also were among the wicket-takers, though a strong 6th wicket partnership from Walcha saw 42 runs added, eventually being broken by Rodders. The score was 6/70 with 26 runs to get when the rain came in; 3rd Grade again having to settle for a draw.

Round 3 Results - 1 November 2025

Back at the Sportground, 1st Grade took on TAS. Batting first, things were off to a bad start when Marto was run out in the first over. TAS bowling was tight, and things were slow going until Stubbsy came out to bat, who partnered up with Rofey to get the total looking a little healthier. Stubbsy was caught for 30, the score 6/80 in the 22nd. Crispy (20*) and Olly (25) then put together a great partnership, putting on 48 runs in 12 overs, and with a shortened game due to the weather, City were able to post 130 off their 34 overs.

Olly and Fred opened the bowling, and Fred wasted no time, picking up a wicket on his second delivery. Tight bowling in the face of some talented young batsmen kept the contest alive, but Stubbsy bringing himself on saw two wickets in consecutive deliveries, though unable to snag the hat-trick. Triebey joined the party, picking up a pair of wickets, though it was young Isaac Stubbs in his 1st Grade debut that cleaned up the tail, getting 3/6 off his 1.5 overs and bowling out TAS for 91. A fantastic start to a 1st Grade career.

-

2nds played Easts (Green) again at Bellevue. Sent into bat on another wet wicket, the openers stuck it out for 8 overs to some sharp bowling in tough conditions, before Moses was caught for 11. Long time City 1st Grader Skins was joined by Justy, putting on a spectacular 62-run partnership, getting the score to 97, before Skins (54) finally was dismissed. The City collapse was then on, and Lachy Taylor of Easts picked up a hat-trick over two overs, and 4 wickets for no runs, City falling to 7/97. Minimal resistance from the tail saw City bowled out for 109 in the 37th over.

Gritty batting from the Easts openers saw them put on a great 59-run stand while chasing a low target, and it wasn’t until Butts was on in the 11th over that the partnership was broken. In an economical spell, Butts took 3/34 off his 8, with another 2 wickets taken by Scully (2/24), but the target was too low, and 2nd Grade power-house Easts team reached the total in 23 overs.

-

3rd Grade took on Servies at Jack Vallance. City won the toss and bowled, with openers Lachy and Coops clinical. Lachy struck in the 7th, and continued to take wickets with minimal runs conceded, bowling his 8 overs with 4 maidens, and taking 4/6. Rodders did not miss out on taking wickets, snagging 3/23. In a self-umpired match, decisions on whether or not to keep playing with lightning and rain around are always tough, and with a close-by lightning strike, the match was abandoned with Servies on 8/68 off 25 overs, both teams sharing the points.

Round 2 Results - 25 October 2025

1sts took on Hillgrove at the Sportsground. Winning the toss and batting, runs were not easy to come by, though Kyle hit a few loose ones for 6. Kyle steered the opening overs, making 36 runs, and up from 2nds, Justy and Rofey made handy scores of 23* and 26 in the middle overs. Garrett added 23 runs late in the innings, and City made their way to 144 off the full 40 overs.

Hillgrove started slow in their chase, with tight bowling from Ollie and Shags. Ollie broke an 80-run partnership, the score at 2/94, and no substantial partnerships after that kept City in the game, but some big hitting saw the modest tally chased within 28 overs. Both Ollie and Karlos picked up 2 wickets each, but Hillgrove came out on top in the end.

2nds took on Easts (Yellow) At Bellevue with a very different team to the previous week. Easts won the toss and batted, and opener B. Gash capitalised on some full bowling, putting on 69 in an 82-run opening partnership. City struggled to get back into the game after that start; despite some economical bowling, Easts were well out of the gates. Dale picked up 4 wickets from his overs (4/62) and the injured Sam Richards picked up 3 with his leggies. Easts ended up on a solid 205 from their 40 overs.

City were off to a rocky start on their chase, with Ash going early. Stoners made a solid 17, and Scully (27) and Alistair (24) put on a 47-run stand for the 4th wicket, but with wickets falling too regularly for the imposing total, City were unable to get back in the game, and were bowled out for 118 in the 35th over.

3rd Grade were given the bye for Round 2, and will look to start their season in Round 3.

A rough round after a great first round, with all 3 grades looking to Round 3 to get back in the points:

1st Grade vs TAS at the Armidale Sportsground;
2nd Grade vs Easts (Green) at Bellevue Oval;
3rd Grade vs Ex-Services at Jack Vallance Oval.

Results Round 1 - 18 October 2025

1st Grade came up against the brand-new club United, on a poppy Lambert Park. Sent in to bat, the City openers had a lot to deal with against some tricky bowling, and Kyle, though making a great start, was caught for 7. Karlos joined Marto at the crease, and the two put on 70 runs before Karl was caught behind for a very solid 34. Another great partnership between Marto and Skins steadied the ship for a while before Skins was bowled for 20, the score the score 4/134, and Marto fell shortly after for a gritty 58. In typical City fashion, another 4 wickets fell for not many before Ollie Stubbs came to the crease, but with Shags bowled in the 38th, City's innings came to a close on 160.

City's strong bowling line-up then took the field and begun their work, with wickets all-round. Ollie and Fred opened very economically, putting extra pressure on the top order. Four City bowlers took 2 wickets each, with catches going to hand all around the park. United were eventually bowled out for 81 in 21 overs, giving City 1's a great start to the season.

2nd Grade played Hillgrove on a very sticky Bellevue Oval, and the surprises started with Pat winning the toss. Bowling, debutant Isaac Stubbs took the first over, and his 3rd over brought his first senior's wicket, caught in the slips. Runs were few and far between, and Pat brought himself on to get through a few more of the top order. Auditioning for the soon-arriving circus, Brae juggled a catch that stuck in his hands on the 4th attempt, and some more team-work catches kept the wickets falling semi-regularly. A great bowling performance all-round kept Hillgrove to 96 off their full 40 overs; low on paper, but a mountain to chase on the deck.

The man to climb it: Stoners. Anchoring the innings, Stoners opened, and toughed out one of the most spectacular innings in City's history. He batted for 33 overs, scoring an unbeaten 17 off 105 deliveries. The other end saw some great contributions and some bad luck; Jarvo and other debutant Chris each scoring 17 and 19 respectively. Wickets were being lost at a consistent rate, and the game got close; Dale in at number 10 eventually scoring the winning runs in the 34th, sealing a win by 2 wickets in an excellent game of cricket.

Unfortunately, 3rd Grade did not take the field and were awarded a win by forfeit, Easts unable to field a team. With the bye next weekend, our 3rd Grade team will have to wait until Round 3 for some action.

Next weekend:
1st Grade play Hillgrove at the Sportsground
2nd Grade play Easts (Yellow) at Bellevue
3rd Grade have the bye.

Congratulations to all grades for full points in Round 1, and lets keep up the form!

Round 1, who is keen!?!?

Welcome back to cricket season, and lets hope the rain stays away enough for a full day's cricket tomorrow.

1st Grade take on the brand-new club United at Lambert, featuring some familiar (and hopefully friendly!) faces. Exciting times as Sam Richards makes his debut for City, and Armidale-elite Kyle Taylor returns from a few seasons away.

2nd Grade play Hillgrove at Fortress Bellevue Oval, with Chris Rofe debuting, along with future 1st Grader Isaac Stubbs. Justin Ryan also returns from a break from cricket.

3rd Grade will face Easts at Newling #1; where Jem Watson, Deepin Naicker and Jayden Hewitson will all be making their City debuts. 3rds are hoping to kick the season off with a win after being pipped at the post in last season's grand final.

Good luck to all teams and lets get some wins on the board to start the season!
