This month we’re focusing on messer - a German one handed blade similar to a knife (but really big) used in the 15th and 16th centuries.

If you want to give messer a shot come along to class on Saturdays from 10am at the Armidale PCYC. Thursday classes will remain longsword focused.

This last weekend saw the NESSI crew make the trek first down the mountain then back up to Tamborine Mountain for Swordfight VIII. This year the competition was stacked, not just with big names in the HEMA community, but also some pretty big sponsors thanks to the efforts of Sword Fighter. Allana took home gold in the URG, winning a saber from Swordier.com.

Comps like this are such a fantastic way to strengthen not just our fencing, but also deepen the bonds we make through this shared love of the sport. Sword Fighter have put on an absolute gem of a comp, and we all had a blast.
